Possibly. Nothing comes close. Nokia and Sony Ericsson both once had to suspend sales of the N97 and Satio in 2009, if I remember correctly, but it was due to minor build issues, and there was the Nokia Battery recall for the BL-5C found in the N70, N91, E60 and some others, that could explode, but guess what? You could REMOVE those batteries, and it was barely a scratch on Nokia thanks to that.

Amazing that it took this long to happen, you barely ever heard of Nokia, Sony Ericsson, MOTOROLA etc... Phone batteries exploding back in the early 2000s.

I guess with these manufacturers trying to super slim these devices, make the more functional and more powerful it was bound to happen. I hope Samsung learnt a valuable lesson here, what a shame!
Heres hoping they return to removable batteries after this debacle.Hey I can dream, cant I? :)

That one does not the potential to harm anyone physically, so I don't think those are in the same category.

Inability to call 911, doctor, family, etc. because of touch disease defect is critical to most people except for maybe apologists. And, any device with lithium battery has potential to smoke.

I totally understand. If you have been running with Samsung for a while, this should not necessarily pull you away. I just don't like the covering up they did. I wish they had been more open, and said "hey we F'ed up again with the new batch, we are working hard to fix it". Nope they took the sweeping under the rug approach, and it might cost them even more.

i have iphone but i see no reason why i shouldnt buy a phone from samsung, but not the note7 (at the monent) :D

sure they could have done things differently. but atleast they arent denying, blaming customers or letting customers alone with the problem.

Someone needs to check on Sevan and see if he is ok

I think for his own sanity he is better out of the thread. ;) He will be very disappointed as despite everything he really loved using his Note 7.

I'm actually till waiting for it7chy to twist this as some positive move and spew a load of bile that it's all Apple's fault. Oh wait spoke to soon .... there he goes again .

Do people really want plastic Polycarbonate backs on phones again when designs have achieved such nice aesthetics in recent years? I can't imagine many people carrying spare batteries around in this day and age.
Even if my phone had a swappable battery, I'd still use a battery bank as just connecting a cable is much less of a hassle than popping open the back cover, reboots and everything. It would just make possible battery swap easier once the original dies.

I would buy another Samsung device, but then I'm mental for buying phones anyway so my actions are hardly representational :D

Just like the micro-scratches on my JB IP7 which I'm already lamenting wont stop me buying another iphone, I just won't ever buy with this 'coating' on it again.

What will stop me buying either Apple or Samsung flagships is the consistently rising European pricing which is getting too unpalapable for me in the face of fantastic handsets at 1/2 - 2/3 the cost.

Wait, you got an iPhone 7? And in jet black no less? What happened? You were so against getting one.

Yeah, if the Note 8 kills it (or galaxy s8 pen, or whatever they call it), I'll be back. For now, I think I'll just stick with my Note 5 and get AT&T's cheapest phone under next so they pay off my S7 Edge contract with t-mobile. Or if I'm still eligible, get another free iPhone, only this time the regular sized model. I've decided against getting the V20 or even Pixel as really neither of those phones are what I want, what I want is the Note 7 and I don't feel right signing up for a payment plan and obligating myself to pay over $900 for 2 phones that will only satisfy my tech lust for a couple of weeks.

Of course i still haven't gone to the store, that damn tech lust may flare up while I'm in there.

Well I think that is a bit of a stretch to compare, but ok. If you feel they both are in the same category, then by all means.

Next door neighbours iPhone was destroyed beyond repair and they wanted a new iPhone ASAP and didn't want a contract phone as they don't want to sign up to a contract with the carrier. They asked if I would sell them my 6S as it it still had 18 months of Apple Care. I checked Vodafone to see if I could get an anytime upgrade and I could get the iPhone 7 128 at a little bit of a discount, so with the money I got for my 64gb iPhone 6S I only had to pay €150 for the 128gb iPhone 7 .... At that price it was not too bad an upgrade. It was merely an opportunity I took advantage of.

No way I want a plastic back again. I like the phones unibodied. Let's just stop trying to make them so damn thin, and then we would stop having hearing issues. We have said to years we would rather have a thicker phone and better battery life.

Wow, so I see that the Note 7 is officially dead, no more production or sales. I will definitely reminisce about this phone for a LONG time to come, I'll bet we will still talk about it in 5 years, and that's an eternity in this world.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Samsung should really just incorporate the Spen into the larger S8 variant, and keep the smaller variant as a cheaper alternative. Then they could really concentrate on those guys, instead of splitting themselves up over more phones.

Yeah, it's such a shame as it was an incredible phone. I'm very disappointed that it seems the cause was Samsung rushing out to beat the iPhone to market. Because after it was announced, I had been wishing Samsung would've waited until October (now) to release. Remember, up until the Note 5 October had been it release frame, then last year it came out late august and early august this year. Had they just been patient with it, we could've had a non exploding phone with nougat and the sd821.

Still not on the same scale as a phone that catches fire even when turned off.

If I break my legs in the lounge and my phone is in the kitchen, I can't blame Apple lol.

Yeah, I don't understand the rush. The S7/edge had killed it, and everyone was really liking them. Everyone said the Note 7 was going to crush it. What did beating Apple to market gain them? It was never going to over shadow the iPhone, but if they had waited, then people would be talking about how great it was, and it could have stood on a stage by itself after the iPhone buzz was over. Also we would still have a Note 7 now.

I would have waited, especially if they included Nougat on there, sd821 would have been super nice as well.

Doesn't matter what you or I think at this point as the court will decide the class action lawsuits and they've historically decided in favor of consumers and force Apple to do the right thing instead of sweeping issues under the rug.

Ok cool sounds good for the people. Let me ask you this question. If someone told you today that you had your choice of two phones, you don't know the names or who made them but they will give them to you. One will work for two years and the screen may or may not work after two years. Or the other phone may or may not catch fire and explode from day one on. Which one are you taking?

Tech companies get sued everyday for different things. That does not mean they have some huge debacle on their hands. It's never happened before that a smartphone was pulled from the market because it was catching on fire. I don't see how either could come anywhere close to one another. Lawsuit or not.
