I really wasn't interested into the Note7 much early on. Not into flagships or Samsung. I was more fascinated by the HTC Marlin and iPhone 7 just a month ago. Note7's got my attention with all the free goodies like a 256gb micro-sd card.
I did try the first Gear VR with an S7 edge a few months ago and hated it. So clunky to go through the menu screen. And display wasn't all that. Now I know why we need 2K and 4K displays for our smartphones. VR! I think VR is less of a gimmick than Force Touch. This VR stuff will start to become common in our homes to check out movies or escape to virtual worlds. Simulations and VR gaming.
VR right now is like iPhone in 2007 which had zero official third-party apps or folks into physical QWERTY before virtual keyboards. Android from 2008-2011 or early days of phablets which were uncomfortable to many. Awkward early stages like adolescence to puberty. Samsung and LG are jumping on it now. Koreans have foresight. Planting the early seeds for VR before it sprouts to something much more refined in a few years.
Watch when Apple finally gets into VR in 3-5 years. Still stuck on 750p/1080p right now. Critics of VR may change their tune while some of us early birds are experiencing the immature days of VR as early as this year. I believe VR has potential to be more than a gimmick and be another way to experience multimedia (like adult entertainment!

) Many are reluctant because it is either still immature or afraid to adapt to change as quickly.
2011 - Note, B
2012 - Note II, B+
2013 - Note 3, A-
2014 - Note 4, A / Note edge, C+
2015 - Note5, B+
2016 - Note7, A
Getting it in black to match it closer to the new Gear VR. Then if another upgrade of Gear VR happens, will pick that up too with Type-C becoming the new standard. Black matches with any color. I don't like the reflective silver or gold. Looks cool at first but I will grow tired of it. Always bet on black especially with AMOLED!
The first Note to get dual-curved display and dust/water-resistance. Note7 is the best Note since the 4 and arguably the best smartphone Samsung has ever made. S7 edge is now second best. Note7 is the phone to beat in 2016. This is the only flagship to go broke for. The only 7 of 2016 worthy enough to upgrade to. All-in.
Samsung has beaten everyone with battery optimization for Quad HD.
^ Expect scores close to that S7 edge (SD820) with only a 100 mAh decrease. Nearly 17h of video playback on that S7e (USA). Only time Samsung flopped with QHD was in the Note edge and S6 edge. Samsung using QHD has outclassed phones using 1080p with a bigger battery. *cough, Huawei* That's what you call optimization! While using higher resolution to set themselves up for a brighter future in VR.
