A friend of mine got the S4 at Metro PCS this morning for $549.

I told him about using dash clock lockscreen with extensions. He wanted to try it and we downloaded the widget and some extensions.

I could find no way to use this lock screen in the settings. How does one disable the stock one on the S4 to use the one you want?

Thanks in advance for your help.

On lockscreen just put a finger near the border of the screen on the upper half and swipe, then you get another page, where you can add another widget.
After that you can delete the stock one.

The wireless charing back cover is a little thicker than the standard back cover. However, it doesn't affect the camera at all as far as taking pictures. In fact, it helps protect the camera because now my phone doesn't sit on the camera lens when I set the phone down on my desk.

The one big drawback to this back cover is that 99% of the current line of cases for the S4 won't fit the phone with the wireless charging back cover attached.

Ok. Not a huge case fan anyways. on my 4S I just have a thin one to avoid scratching the back. I do have a LifeProof case for when I need to be rugged and still have a phone, but those occasions are rare.

Much obliged! Got dash clock with extensions up and running.

Time will tell if he keeps it as his main lock screen.

I told him about different launchers and other widgets. I think at this point he wants to uninstall some of the bloat ware so that will be the next step.

Thanks again.

lol....just set the date back to auto and done.....

I wish that would have worked. While the Any.Do reminders were set to the 12th, for some strange reason it still thought the 12th was today. Luckily, I only had a couple so I just deleted them and recreated them. Still worth it to get the update.

Other than a few visual differences, the camera "updating", I haven't seen too many big differences. The app to SD card option would only save me about 40MB I think (of in seeing that right). I'm far from running out of space in my internal memory, so that's not a big deal for me. The two new wallpapers are nice though.

Sorry for the double post, but I just found a neat "glitch" with the new update. When running stock and on WiFi, your WiFi network would show in your notification drop down. I always thought that was annoying. Well, I discovered today that it can disappear, even though I'm still connected to my WiFi. Here's how I found out.

My phone always has the Bluetooth on because of my Fitbit Flex. However I turned it off for a few minutes to check my Fitbit on my iPhone. After I was done, I pulled down the notification drop down and tapped the Bluetooth icon. When I did, the WiFi network part in the drop down disappeared. I was still connected to WiFi, verified by doing a Speedtest run. If you turn off WiFi and turn it back on, it'll appear again in your drop down panel. Just turn bluetooth off and on again and it should disappear. I've been able to repeat it on my phone a few times.

Just picked up the Spigen Neo Hybrid case in the Metal Slate color. It is fantastic!

The perfect case would be this with some sort of S view support.

Thanks for the help getting dash clock to run.

Next question. :)

Trying to use the YouTube app and listen to music but have that playing while in the background. Put the phone to sleep and the music stops. I can do it with google play or spotify.
Help! :)

Thanks in advance.

I like that case a lot! Thinking about getting the S4 in lieu of the One. Tired of the subpar camera on the One.

For screen-off playback, I believe the modified YouTube on XDA will work - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529715
Screen-off playback is supposed to work but background playback DOES NOT work. AFAIK, there's no mod to implement that into the stock YouTube app.

There are, however, ways (or rather apps) to play YouTube videos in the background while doing other things on your phone:
-Next Vid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Nextvid.mobile.player)
-PVSTAR+ (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.asbit.pvstar)

Approaching about 4 1/2 hours.

Thats nuts...

I average about 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours screen time. Never get higher than that.

but in fairness I get on average 1 day of battery life in general so still pleased with battery left.

currently

50% left

16 hours, 35 minutes battery
1 hour, 46 minutes screen time

Me too. No idea how he's getting battery life that good but I suspect with some other mods.

I'm running a Google Edition ROM with faux's (007) kernel running at 384MHz-2.1GHz on the intellidemand governnor with all frequencies undervolted by -50 and the GPU at 600MHz (according to FauxClock).

All I've really done with the phone is call, text, web browse, watch a few YouTube videos and listen to music. I haven't done anything too intensive. With AOKP, I was getting at least 6 hours screen time at around 70-80% brightness.

think I got like 5-6 hours screen time once but if I did again I would just be hammering it and wouldn't have much overall time left.

Custom kernel and the mods that come along with it are why your battery life is so good then.

You and anyone using any mods should always mention them when showing battery life that good. It's very misleading to show us screenshots and make us all wonder why our phones suck in comparison :p

I really can't imagine a kernel making that much of an impact on battery life.
