I really can't imagine a kernel making that much of an impact on battery life.

Trust me it's the reason why. Why would people spend time messing around with them so much? Try the GE ROM without faux or anyone else's kernel and the changes that come with them and see for yourself.

I was on a GE ROM for a while and my battery life was no where near yours.

Would you mind posting pics? How much bulk does it add?

First, I'm very picky when it comes to cases. If I'm using a top of the line smartphone, I want a case that reflects quality just like the device does. Second I want all buttons, ports, etc to function or be just as accessible as they are on the phone without a case.

I simply cannot say enough good things about this case. First it's quality is just stellar. Second it's a two piece case that appears as a single unit when installed. Next the rubber or derivative material on the ends does not pickup pocket lint. The fit between the rubber inner and the outer hard shell, is so perfect that once it's on the phone it appears like just a thin one piece case. There is just enough of a ridge around the bezel that face down on the table the screen does not touch.

The rubber covered buttons work better than the original buttons. It's very slim and adds very little to the size.

I've probably bought over 50 cases in the last few years for my various phones and this one is the finest of all. I don't buy $5 cases, I buy what fits and works best no matter how expensive. This was a shocker as it's not very expensive By the way I got it on Amazon for half off. They are in stock now.

Better than my pics here's the link to this case on Spigens Website.

I had a bunch of time on my hands today so I decided to do a little battery life test with my Galaxy S4. I'm still running a Google Edition AOSP ROM with faux's (007) kernel @ 384MHz-2.1GHz, -50 undervolt across the board, intellidemand governor, and a 600MHz GPU overclock.

2hpnke8.jpg

That's on full brightness with the current battery at about 70%. The phone has been off the charger for about 3 hours. I have been playing a few games (Riptide, Clear Vision), watching videos via YouTube/VLC, music via PowerAMP, texting, downloading a few apps and browsing the web (AOSP browser). This is the best battery life I've had since the Note 2, very happy.

Great post!

I too am very happy with the long battery life I'm experiencing with my S4. It's the best battery life I've ever enjoyed with an Android phone.

I don't see myself getting these types of results. I have a hard time putting my phone down. Even when I'm supposed to be working...;) it's going to be especially difficult with a new phone but that's to be expected.
I am however glad to see people reporting good battery life. That was one of the biggest reasons I always came back to iPhone.

Worst case scenario why don't you get an extra battery or 2 and get one of those external chargers for them? That's what I have but I rarely ever need to switch out the battery these days. Having 2 extra batteries means having one charging, one in the phone and an extra fully charged battery in my pocket/bag.

Wow. So you take the removable battery advantage on the S4 seriously. I may get an extra battery down the road if I keep the phone. I have a horrible track record of going back to iPhone. This time I'm pretty confident I won't. I'm going to turn off the iPhone and and put it in a drawer somewhere lol

The other thing is I normally carry my charger with me to work. So if its a really heavy usage day I'll just charge it. I'm always next to a plug anyway.

Yeah it's one of the things I love about my S4. I did the same thing with my S3 and it's worked well for me.

I only went back to my iPhone when I got my first Android phone, the Galaxy Nexus (after 2 weeks). I felt like I couldn't stand it anymore and missed iOS too much. After that I've never felt the need to go back to an iPhone but I have switched back and forth.

removeable battery is perfect for me..whenever my phone does at work i just swap over the batteries as I have the offical battery kit case and i'm back to 100% it's great. Just like if battery % is low and i'm about to go out I just swap batteries.

obviously when at home I just place it on charge but when at work and on the go? removeable battery is the way to go.

Only thing off is gps and bluetooth, nfc, sbeam

Not sure whether to keep auto brightness on for now. It dropped 7 percent overnight. So was 57 percent at 6.00am and didn't die till 16.30 this afternoon

Question, which GE ROM are you running?

THanks.

for samsung devices it is...usage is certainly alot different on the galaxy phones than it is for iphone for example. Anytime your phone lasts you over a day then thats good battery life. most people have said on here around 4 hours screen time is good battery life.

After owning a MAXX HD, everything else seems silly. I got my eye on the Droid MAXX. I've considered the HTC One, but it's pretty chunky with the necessary Mophie.

On heavy use days, the iPhone is dead by 2pm. My RAZR MAXX never ran out.

You due an upgrade then? Had the iPhone 5 but the s4 is Alot better battery life wise. No issues here. Usage is different with Samsung I have noticed.

Out of iphone
Galaxy s4
Htc one

I think s4 has the best battery life.

Maybe others can correct me but me personally feel 4 hours screen time is considered pretty good.

I stay out of contracts. Phones 2 months after release are cheap...and under warranty.

I tried the S4 when it was released, but signal and animation stutter (lag) was too big of an issue. ROMs can fix stutter, but not signal.

Also, really dislike PenTile.
