Has anyone else flashed the Google Edition Rom 4.3 onto their device and what are your findings ?

I've flashed it today and everything is working - however my battery life is pretty crummy. Getting from 100% - 10% with about 2hours of screen on time.

I'll give it another 24 hours - but if battery life is getting hit this bad I will have to go back to touchwiz as much as I hate it.

You might have flashed the older leaked 4.3 version. That had a battery drain issue.

I found the battery drain on the 4.3 version of GE to be battery draining. And it ran constantly warm.

Go to the 4.2.2 GE ROM. Battery Life is great on it.

Yeah might do that. Though I would lose the lovely new assistiveNotifications app.

Nope , sadly I'm very latest version 4.3 v3 Finaly of Jamal's rom released yesterday :(

Did notice my GPS seemed to be on so have disabled that and some of the location services to see if it gets better today.

If it doesn't I'll have to consider going back to stock or trying a different rom.

I really wanted to like this phone. It just gets too hot up near the speaker during calls. Even in my pocket it is uncomfortably warm. Does anyone have a rom or fix for this? I've googled the issue and it seems like many people have this problem regardless of their setup.

Who has the s4 on verizon? I'm between this and the htc one, only if verizon has the 64gb.

Looking at the 32gb s4 then get a class 10 sandisk 64gb microsd in there.

Anyone know if you can install google play on the sd card and the music from there also?

If you mean google play music, then yes but it installs app to internal storage, but indeed you can put all your music on the microSD and it will work inside google play music. I'm doing so now with 10gb of music on my microSD running stock 4.3 so Google Play music is my default music app.

Seen others complain of this too. Thankfully mine doesn't get that hot.

That's what worries me. There are multiple instances of this and I can't be sitting around in the south during the summer with a phone that makes me hotter than it is outside. It heated up noticeably on a simple 5 minute phone call.

Also, has anyone else noticed that the bezel at the bottom is too small for their taste? I seemed to always hit something other than the back key when exiting apps.

Hmmmm... I have used my S4 for tons of calls and it does not get hot like that for me. Maybe you need to have your replaced? I have not seen or heard of anyone else complaining about that issue either.

This could happen to every phone when you pick it up? If it has physical buttons or on screen buttons....when you pick it up you can activate the button.

True, it's more to do with the way I grip my phone in the left hand I think and just perhaps the overall dimensions / size. I still think my perfect size is around the 4.3 - 4.5 personally. It's also why I 'was' interested in the Moto X - only to discover that they wont be releasing it here :(

On brighter news - battery life today on the GE Rom S4 is better - I disabled location history. I'm at 81% now - which is about the same as i would be with the ONE and Touchwiz'd S4.

MRU, I thought you sold your S4?

YEP! and then ....... :D

A few weeks ago in MRU's tech life is like a lifetime in most :p (5 phones in 4 months)....

overall explanation here
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/17703429/

and thread where my first flashing attempt ended with me finding out the S4 was faulty.
https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/17618789/

So basically I'm using an S4 now with GE stock android 4.3
(still quite surprised how with stock Android 4.3 you can't delete/remove unused home pages)

That and the giant icon size is the only reason I use a launcher.

I think it is a mistake to not release it worldwide. I know their marketing is assembled or made in the USA and I understand that. But IMHO they should have it release worldwide the next week after the initial release.

Yep ... If they just had a white and black variant for order at least. There's a chance I could still get one from something like Expansys.com however it will be overpriced that way, and warranty could be painful if something did go wrong.

But from all the videos I've seen of it now - the difference in size / dimensions of the handset is really attractive to me over most other handsets... and the specs don't bother me in the slightest.

Plus close to stock out of the box without messing is likewise attractive. But hey ho.

LOL....me too i use Nova to get better grid and icon size. The default is just too big and wastes too much screen.

Yeah I'm using Nova now myself to sort that. It is definetly strange that we all rave about the 'customisability' of android - and yet in it's stock form you can't even change the number of home screens and the icons and spacing are all funked up. We need a third party solution (launcher) to solve what should fundementally be able to be changed by the user by default in stock.

So even Stock android is not perfect ... The 'perfect' device probably doesnt exist.

I know it doesn't....we still have to make it the way we like it! :)
The good news is Android lets us do that! :)

Ahh. The new tw update lets you install apps onto the sd card, but since google play music will read music off the sd card, I guess there is nothing to worry about. I don't plan on rooting since the GE takes away so many hardware features and remaps the button interface, I so I have heard.

How is touch wiz performance on the S4?
Do you use the touch wiz apps and features?
Is the firmware susceptible to LAG on the UI and general operation?

Cheers!

So surprisingly I have decided that I 'may' go back to Touchwiz. Battery life on AOSP 4.3 finaly GE Rom by Jamal just wasn't doing the business for me. I tried installing custom kernel for improvement and it made little difference.

With Touchwiz I'd get about 4 hours screen on time, with 4.3 GE I'd only get 2 hours.

At end of the day - I need better battery life MORE than I need a nicer dialer, messaging and contacts applications compared to touchwiz.

So I am toying with reflashing back to TW.

Try the Task ROM or cleanROM. Much better because its debloated TW
