Galaxy S4

I'll preface by saying my statements do not come from a place of Apple fanboyism. I've many Android devices (S4, One & N5 included) and the iPhone 5 was my first Apple phone I purchased (about 8 months ago).
I don't think that is true at all. The S4 alone had problems before updates. But ALL Android phones are laggy? That just not true...
It is. It's a fundamental difference in the way they operate. Android runs within a virtual machine on the device, whereas iPhone has direct access to hardware. One reason why Android devices with double the power hiccup next to iPhones.

not true.

I've had my S4 for almost a year, running a kitkat rom and I dont experience any lag.
I have doubts. I've never ever seen any Android device, Nexus 5 included, as smooth as an iPhone 5.

iOS is smooth but so is the S4.. question: what do you call lag? maybe there's a misunderstanding.

I don't like or run touchwiz but perhaps its the reason why it lags on most s4's.

Any animation jitter or rendering issue I call lag. Even the YouTube app performs better on the iPhone. Of course, the persistent Android sticky scrolling issue.

The information is there for the graphic to move from point A to B smoothly. If it doesn't, I call it lag.

With TouchWiz, the S4 will stutter pulling down the notification shade with a handful of notifications.

Touchwiz could be the culprit... I agree, the youtube app is slow on startup for my S4 (kitkat).

I have had just about every flagship Android phone in 2013 and I have had the IP5 and IP5s. I would say from my experience that you statements are not true. My IP5s stutters sometime too. Heres how to fix IP5s lagging after IOS 7 updates...

You know we can go back and forth like this but i think you get the picture.....No OS is perfect...they all have issues..... But you can't say ALL ANDROID devices lag. That is not true.

Looks like IP5 does the same thing?

Not the same. It takes a specific set of conditions to glitch an iPhone, the conditions are more easily and commonly produced in Android.

The android issues I mentioned are the result of a fundamental programming issue (Java Virtual Machine).

I've often stated Nexus 5 > iPhone 5/5s > All other Android devices. I feel from a UI and performance standpoint, it's a fair comparison.

What's wrong with the other stock and stockish android devices?

If you had said you had a S4 that lagged...i would have agreed with you. I had one that lagged until an update. But to say ALL ANDROID devices lag because of how android is written is wrong. I have an IP5s that is not as fast as my Nexus 5.......

You can give anecdotal experiences.....and many others have too....but to make blanket statements like that is not correct. You might not like Android.....that is your choice. Have no issues with that. Be happy with what you have......but blanket statements like that are not correct.

Fast and lag/stutter/jitter are 2 different things. I still prefer a N5 to a iP5, but would rather it take an extra millisecond or two to smooth things out.

But that was not your blanket statement.....you said all Android devices lag. Not correct. I have an IP5s that stutters..lags due to IOS7. It is well known everywhere that IOS7 is slow compared to IOS6. I can show links and youtube videos just like you did. But my N5 is faster performance wise than my IP5s. The IP5s has better specs too. The battery on my N5 lasts longer as well. So now should i make blankets statements about that?
If you don't like Android....that great...to each his own. But to make blanket statements about a whole platform like that is not correct. There is too much evidence to the contrary.

I love android, but I have never used one that is smoother than my jailbroken iPhone 5 on iOS 6.1.2.

Also, the Nexus 5 has far better specs. It is a quad core, 1ghz faster, has double the memory and a third larger battery.

Double the clock speed, double the cores, double the memory. It should demolish the iPhone...it doesn't.

at least be accurate..Compare iPhone 5 to Nexus 5. You get better specs and for $225 less!
Nexus 5 = $349
Iphone 5 = $575

Yes it is faster and snappier with no lag…..
To get the same performance from your iPhone…..you have to jailbreak it…..according to you that is…..
Here is was comparing the N5 to a IP5s………not a JB IP5

I guess we could go back an forth on this forever, fact is, my iP5 on iOS 6 is smoother than my friends N5, the N5 demo unit in store and my roommates N5. It's not really up for debate, it just is.

I've stayed away from iOS7 because Apple rushed it and hasn't worked out the kinks, Android has been virtually unchanged since ICS, but the performance enhancements have been major, which is awesome.

Used pricing on the N5 and iP5 are nearly identical.

I wish I could get the N5 on Verizon. I was planning to get the LG G2, but the UI is really bad and that rear power button is odd.

I think every Android device should be 100% AOSP with selectable install packages from the Carrier/Manufacturer. One that is for absolutely sure though, I've never used a Samsung product I liked.

Agree to disagree I guess. You have both devices, you should see the same thing I do. I do know I am more sensitive to frame drops/animation stutters, etc.

I also don't understand why Google didn't push out a Motorola Nexus to all carriers and label it the Android Flagship device. They could have presented 2 size models and it would have been successful. It's worked pretty well for Apple.

Google ended up eating it big time on Moto, shame. The Atrix HD was one of the best Android devices I used, especially with the mod to include the 3300mah MAXX battery without increasing case size. ;)

Google is working on ART which moves from just in time compiling to pre compiled apps (sort of like on the iPhone/WP etc) which could eliminate lag once they make it non-beta of course (or non-alpha...).

Of course samsung will still find a way to ruin it by bloating it even further. Just add a 16 core processor and touchwiz will lag just a little bit less, amirite?

Nexus and google edition better stay for a long while, if not, i hope someone (MS/Nokia?) forks AOSP and makes a phone with leaner form of it.

I don't have a ton of experience with Samsungs so I'm curious, knowing that the S4 will receive Kit Kat, will it also see the update to the Touchwiz UI as well that the S5 will launch with?

You don't notice it and that's fine.

I'd be the first to notice lag. And I'll admit with 4.3 it had like 5 mins where it would go laggy once a week or so. However 4.4 fixed it and it is smoother. Don't tell me I don't see lag because I am then first to notice it on devices just like how I notice lag on my cousins MBPR and he doesn't.

----------

This tbh. You just aren't noticing it!

Call BS on that one.

I wonder why they made the Nexus 5. Your 4 is perfect, right?

Nope. I've said performance is amazing. I have never said the battery was amazing(it kinda sucks compared even to my old 4S) the camera is only OK and the speaker is no where as good positioned as the iPhone 4S. So no I never said it was perfect.
