So my EU non branded/unlocked S6 Edge has been updated to 5.0.2 this evening. Apart from an Emergency Mode when I pressed hold the power button, I can't tell the differences.

Closing all apps still shows 67% memory usage.
Same here ... Sadly if this was the fix for memory it hasn't solved mine, apps are still closing after I reach around 5 open apps, and I'm still at 80-85% used with those few things open ...

I've cleared my cache partition after the update to see if it helped, but made no discernable difference.

Phone is still as fast as ever generally, but likewise appears just the same ram wise too for me.

Hopefully may have done battery improvement but too early to tell.

Reduced my display brightness to about 35% because I new I would be away from a charger all day at mother's day celebrations. Got a whopping 5.5 hours SOT and still have 30% left!!

Even after a couple of hours on cellular calls and video calls via hangouts, at 2% remaining I'm at 4:20 of SOT.

I've got no issues with my S6 battery life.

Yea, it's getting pretty obvious that the battery issues for various phones are one off issues. Every time I hear about battery life issues for any phone, I just roll my eyes.

I don't think they are one off issues.

There are more variables in android world. All of us are likely running different firmware roms from the manufacturer and therefore there can be differences between regions / carriers despite the phone being the same.

I still only get 2.5-3 hours SOT over a decent 15-16 hour on battery day. Sure I can push it to 4 hours over maybe 8-12 hour on battery, but I never get anything like any of the results some are posting with 5-6 hours SOT.

I have an unbranded european XEU CSC model S6 Edge - and even despite having very latest update yesterday and running with the device today again as my daily driver - I'm still not getting any battery improvements.

There are other variables at play though such as I can not get LTE here and so we only have 2G / 3G with signal hopping between then. So that could also contribute a difference to my performance with the device compared to someone with exactly same phone / firmware but living in an urban area with decent signal / 4G LTE.

That being said - none of my other devices are impacted by being in a rural area with often low signal - so do wonder why the S6 would be impacted other than possibly the samsung modem inside the device is less efficient in lower signal areas.

That being said - call quality / reception despite that seems solid on the S6 Edge, compared to say my HTC M9 which though doesn't have the battery or ram issues my S6 Edge does - drops calls when the likes of the S6 edge and iPhone 6+ & Nexus 6 all manage to stay connected.

So there are ups and downs with the device - that may not be exactly one offs - but certainly individual experience can vary greatly.

SOT & Battery I could live with - it still gets me through a day - sadly the aggressive ram issue - despite running with the new update to fix it - doesn't appear to have made much of a difference, I'm still getting frequent refreshes.

Jeepers, how anyone can say there isn't battery life issues with S6 is beyond me. Not saying everyone cannot get a day out of it depending on their use but you got the battery size dealing with the screen resolution right off the bat putting one somewhat behind the eight ball to begin with regardless.

Agreed.....the same can be said of the app refreshes. Not all have the same issue. I have no issues with app refreshes and get 4 to 5 hours SOT. It could be i am in a good LTE area and have Verizon as my carrier so my phone isn't constantly switching and searching for a signal. But then at home I am on WiFi so it doesn't matter then. But I am not the only one reporting very good battery life either. For me i find the S6 to be very energy efficient.
For me and the model and carrier I have....it has lived upto expectations.

I find it disappointing that there is such a wide variation of performance from device to device. Even though I am quite happy with my S 6, I hate to hear that not everyone is.

I agree. I actually exchange my S6 over the weekend and although my battery life seems to be slightly better, I really liked the clickiness of my old device's buttons. Guess I can't have it all ;)

Yep exactly. There's always a touch of luck of the draw. Funny thing is despite the other issues the S6 call quality and recreation in my dodgy area is actually great. Compare to M9, which doesn't have the ram or SOT problem but it's cellular reception has been ***** for me ......

Just luck of the draw, annoying though.

But that can happen for any device, so it's not just an S6 thing, but it is unfortunate for those who have issues.

So a Sprint update just came out. Anyone have any comments regarding the Wifi Standby Bug and the RAM issue? I just put my S6 Edge on sale too lol.

The same could be said with every other phone on the market.

It's called gold platinum actually and it really is a thing of beauty. I own that color and I love it. Most beautiful smartphone designed yet in my opinion.

Is it common for Samsung devices buttons to lose their initial clickiness/ responsiveness over time?

Now that my usage pattern is quite settled and the battery is acquainted, my S6 is getting pretty good battery life.

Great overnight standby in the middle of the graph there, too.

That's just the counties flanking the Wild Atlantic Way on the west.

<snip lots of stunning photos>

Sadly a lot of tourists never get outside Dublin in the far east. But the west of Ireland is seen as the area to getaway to for ourselves.

This post is killing me! :p my wife and I spent our honeymoon (a few years ago) traveling the western/southern coasts of Ireland by car. I would go back in a heartbeat, and would move there even faster if I could manage to land a job. Easily, one of the most beautiful countries on the planet!

Mine is fine so far too. I think this exists for any phone with buttons. Button wear out over time. But this should not happen to new phones!

Count me in on being a bit OCD about button durability. I just recently added the double-tap to lock through Nova. Has anyone found an effective, battery efficient method of doing a double-tap or sweep to wake on the S6 yet? Loved that feature on the M8 and Z3c.

If I could double-tap to wake or sweep to wake then I'd hardly ever need to use the physical buttons.

You could gesture wave the phone to wake up, then just place your finger on the home button for the scan. I do that sometimes when my phone is on the table or wireless charger. (Gesture wave is under Settings > Accessibility > Dexterity and interaction. Why it's not in "Motions and Gestures" settings, I don't know!).

Otherwise, I'd like to know if there is a good double tap to wake/sleep app too. That's one of the few things I do miss from the OnePlus One.

Wasn't aware of the gesture wave you mentioned. Does it work reliably? Wouldn't want it waking up in my pocket, for example.

I've got the AT&T variant, so I doubt root will be an option for me at any point, based on what I've read. If I could root, there's probably a DT2W feature built into one of the ROMs by now.

It's been working pretty reliably for me. I must stress that I only gesture to wave if it's on my desk/wireless charger (it's a wireless charging stand so it actually sits upright at an angle to me, making it very usable while it's still charging. I love it!) or when my hands are dirty and I just want to see my lockscreen notifications.

When I'm actually holding my device, I use the home button to wake. In fact, I think the directions for the Gesture to wake say the device has to be more horizontal for it to work.

Otherwise, yes, it works reliably. Never had pocket waking issues (like unwanted placed calls, etc.).

It's fun. When it's on my wireless charging stand, I wave to wake it to see notifications. Feels advanced. :)

----------

BTW, am I the only one that uses this app to mimic the iPhone feature where the display lights up when I get a notification?

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lukekorth.screennotifications&hl=en

It's a great app. I'm actually surprised a feature like this isn't already built in to TW. I know the Nexus has ambient display where things light up minimally. Being an AMOLED display, Samsung should really have something similar.
