Plus a glass back?? Smash-tastic!

My iPhone 4S never managed to reach "Smash-tastic" status.

Then again I managed to own an iPhone 6 for 13 days and not bend it.

Some people shouldn't have nice things.

Though I am sure most S6 owners will manage to live without breaking their device, there will be devices that get ground up because their owners have butter fingers.

This entire thread is like having a conversation with the guy I work with. He thinks the bottom of the s6 and iphone 6 show no similarities.

It is insane how people can ignore the obvious b.c of their hate/loyalty for a different brand.

And who gives a crap? I could care less if the bottom of my phone resembles the I6.

It is insane how people take this stuff way too seriously b.c of their hate/loyalty for a different brand.

Wouldn't it be hard for you to go back to a 5" display?

5.5" is as large as I can go, and it's borderline too large IMO. My Wife has the Nexus 6, and that beast is way too large for comfortable use, and no way a one handed device. I also owned the OnePlus One a 5.5" screen size, and it too was borderline on the comfort part, maybe a little easier to hold than my 6 Plus.

The One M8 I had was very comfortable, and easily a one handed phone. I think maybe a 5.2" / 5.3" IMO would be perfect size.

I think anyone that would deny similarities and/or influence would be foolish (and blind!). But beyond that, the S6 looks nothing like the iPhone. I think the bad vibes are coming off of people saying Samsung just copied Apple again and that both devices look identical. As if!

Also, it looks like people are really upset over "Samsung Pay" because it sounds like "Apple Pay." No denying that's some heavy influencing there, too.

IMO he's the worst thing that could have happened to the Vergecast. I'm still subscribed but I won't listen to episodes he's on. He knows nothing about tech aside from gaming, his voice is so irritating, he's not funny and Nilay laughs at everything he says. I find it impossible to tolerate.

The good news is that he's not on every episode and David Pierce left the Verge. Also Josh announced a new podcast but no episodes have been recorded as of yet.

I'm also still subscribed despite my disappointments with the new format and hosts. The "hypecheck" aspect of the podcast is also a "shake my head" example of how such a relevant program has lost its way.

Both Nilay and Dieter are smart guys who can fill an hour with relevant talk. The boat-anchors they bring on just suck the life and intelligence out of the Vergecast's legacy.

This is MR. You'll always get that here. Even more so than compared to other forums.

I don't think you'll see apple release an iPhone with those specs anytime in the best future either.

Specs not but the iphone 6s will probably best the Galaxy s6 in benchmarks AND feel faster in real life usage.

Heck, there was no comparison between the Galaxy S5 and the iphone 6, the S5 felt sluggish out of the box.

So tiring. Based on the whole Apple / Samsung pay, John Biggins would have to sue Visa / Master card for shamelessly copying his credit card he invented for the Flatbush National Bank (assuming he is still alive) back in the 50s.

I'm finding both versions of the S6 thoroughly unimpressive. In terms of design, little more than polishing a turd.

Thank you

Absolutely agree with you about the perfect screen size, so I am hoping for the LG G4 as it is rumored at 5,3".

Still using a G2...

I'm not sure this time around. The performance specs are pretty impressive. And it will be competing more with upgraded specs from the Note line.

One thing I've not seen mentioned anywhere. What is the purpose of having both the 'regular' model and the 'edge?' Wouldn't they simplify things greatly for themselves and their customers by just releasing one model? Any additional cost of making the better looking edge model the only offering should be largely absorbed by the efficiencies gained by not having to design, build, produce, and support a second, nearly identical model.

I agree, they should have just committed to the edge. I know many will prefer the non edge version, but I think Samsung could convert many of them just by sticking to their guns. A 2 prong strategy like the ip6/ip6+ would have worked great with the S6/Note 5.

Nilay strikes me as someone who takes a popular phrase at the time and completely runs it into the ground. There were other recent phrases too he did this with. I find it so incredibly cringe and annoying.

Josh and Nilay were great together on the Vergecast. Nilay just isn't the same without Josh. He has too much free reign and it's terrible.

Yeah, it almost seems as if Samsung is afraid to commit to that design. The thing is, they shouldn't be. Even if it's not overly functional, it looks great and by putting it in the pockets of millions of users, developers would find more use for that extra screen. Making it a more expensive option pretty well seals its fate as an interesting niche unlikely to ever take off.

Dual core A8 competes just fine with the Note 4. A9 will just as easily compete with Galaxy s6 and Note 5.

Saw this on reddit, looks like mcafee is integrated :(

Anandtech editor Andrei mentioned this about Exynos:

14nm 2.1ghz A57, 1.5ghz A53, T760MP8 773/700mhz.

Managed to get the gpu voltage table and the drop is utterly insane. -300mV at top freq and -200mV across the board against the 5433 on the same frequencies.

Cost of production and yield rate and consumer end price.

Doubt many people are going to be spending €850/$850 for a 32gb edge. Doubt carriers will subsidise it to same extent as S5

Yet no one made a fuss when Apple announced Apple Pay even though LoopPay was already around for 2 years.

While I personally would lean more toward the standard S6, I do think Samsung should have gone all in an committed to the Edge model.

Exactly. I'm sure there are many other payment companies/systems that use the bold crazy naming convention of "company-name" + "Pay."

I guess android pay will upset people too.

Yeah absolutely, those are the realities. But I think another reality is that consumers may not pay so much for the edge, much less the vanilla S6 which is rumored to be more expensive. I think it was important for Samsung to at least match the S5 price points. If anything the Edge should match the S5 price point to be taken seriously by consumers and to have the hope of becoming mainstream. The realities of development, R&D, marketing and manufacturing I leave to Samsung, but they have to face the reality that pricing this very high will make it an uphill battle.
