I never understood the big draw to wireless charging. So you just place it down vs placing it down and plugging in a cord.

Again, I've never used one though and sure I would get hooked if I did but I am not going down that road!! :)

I don't see the appeal much either. Especially with my propensity to charge and use devices simultaneously.

Can I ask why ?

For me its never been an issue whether top or bottom.

Maybe I'm just versatile rather than preferring it solely in the bottom ......

I like putting my phone in "upside down" in my front pockets so the jack on the bottom means it's facing upward toward the opening of my pocket. Easier for the wire to come out from there to my ears. Also prevents damaging the wire.

I like the convenience of having the screen right side up when i take it out of my pocket.

I have a wireless charger by my bed, and just ordered one to set on my lab bench at work.

I am using a google nexus 6, until the galaxy s6 comes around. The turbo charger is more practical, and I use it when I am in need of a quick boost or want to fully charge up the phone at a time point that isn't over night.

Wireless charging is just nice for connivence. When I go to bed later than my wife, or something akin to that, I don't have to full with plugging the device in. It also puts less stress on the usb port.

It will be nice at work, since I usually keep my phone on my lab bench. With the wireless charger...it will just charge while it is setting idle. Again...its a cheap connivence. Its not necessary.

With the future incorporation of wireless charging standards into cars, tables at starbucks, etc...it will be a nice feature to have. Once it becomes mainstream...I am sure apple will include it as well.

I don't think it is a make or break feature....yet. But once you use it for a while, it is convenient, and you have invested in the chargers...so you would prefer to continue using said chargers with your future phones.

It was nice for samsung to include it, and even better than they made it compatible with both standards.

Key test findings
Excellent build quality, premium finish, very good grip, size easily pocketable.
Best in-class Quad HD Super AMOLED display with the highest pixel-per-inch density to date. Its contrast ratio, viewing angles, and sunlight legibility are all chart-toppers.
Battery life is above average but turned out noticeably worse than the S5.
TouchWiz has gotten leaner and more customizable (theme downloads), less features, but also less clutter
Excellent overall performance, probably the fastest Android smartphone around
The loudspeaker is average in loudness and quieter than the Galaxy S5
Excellent multimedia package out of the box
Solid audio quality
16MP main camera is among the best in terms of resolved detail, noise and sharpness, as well as features, but our test charts show that the Galaxy Note 4 is still ever so slightly better
Video quality is excellent both in 2160p and 1080p resolution, but again, the Galaxy Note 4 video feed is marginally sharper

Interesting that they say the Note 4 camera is better, ouch at worse battery life that the previous S with all the more efficient parts

OT, but just noticed alot of Samsung threads now. This is an Apple forum where Samsung is their arch enemy and called copycats. Neither S4 and S5 drew this much attention.

In 2013, there were many pages of the HTC One M7. It was the best smartphone design ever for me by that point and might still be. In 2014, OnePlus One had alot of online hype. It offered the greatest value for any smartphone flagship in history. For 2015 in an Avengers year, Samsung really stole the show. If you can live without those three omissions (removal battery/sd slot/water resist) which I believe many are already used to owning iPhones and HTC Ones, then S6 and S6 edge should be blockbuster hits even with their drawbacks. All three can be justified in a way.

I just don't see any phone surpassing the design of the S6 edge. This could be 2015's best smartphone design of the year. Samsung really nailed it this year with something unique and original. It makes previous phones look like it came from another generation even if they came out during the same year. Kudos to Samsung for hanging with the big boys in design, if not, surpassing them all. They deserve all the credit for listening...

The S6 appears to be a bit of a letdown, honestly.

I had to check my calender to see if it was April.1st. It's not, so either you forgot the /s or you're serious. If it's the latter, you must have one helluva phone currently not available to us mere mortals. One that can make the S6 seem like such a let down. Lucky you.

Samsung set the bar really high with the S3, S5, Note 4. This S6 is just "meh", honestly.

Per the GSM Arena review the battery life on the S6 sucks, being slightly less than S5 battery life.

That would put it in similar battery life as phones like the Nexus 4 and HTC One X which only got like 4h Screen On time which blows.

I mean it's 2015, smartphones shouid be getting like 6h Screen On time and last a solid 18 hours of hardcore use.

So the S6 is better because it has " high end build quality " now. But gets a pass for no more water resistence, no more SD Card, no more removable battery, and just average battery life.

Put a case on it, and that high quality build becomes meaningless and not even noticeable. And what the heck is high end build quality anyways on a phone ? If it's made from Polycarbonite that means it automatically sucks or something ?

Where's that guy who said the S6 will get similar battery life as a S5 with an 4000mAh battery LOL

I can certainly understand the sentiment of those who are not impressed with the S6. Historically, the Galaxy S series represented everything the iPhone wasnt--durable build materials, expandable memory, replaceable battery, big specs, big, higher res screen, every feature that Apple wouldn't include and even waterproof design with the last iteration. It really was the anti-iPhone, something that a lot of people valued, especially Galaxy fans.

Like it or not, Samsung has moved whole hog in a direction towards a design philosophy very similar to that of Apple and the iPhone. The S6 has premium build materials, sacrificing 2 trademark features (expandable memory and replaceable battery) to do so. Apple has been criticized for years about the 'memory upgrade tax' iPhone customers are subject to, predominantly by fans of Apple's competitors with Galaxy owners leading that charge, yet now they've joined that same club. Samsung has also gone remarkably thin (sound familiar), sacrificing battery capacity as a result. They've adopted a fingerprint reader that mimics the iPhone's and now included a payment feature that's also very familiar (and yes, I know it has added functionality but that's not the point). This is the least Galaxy device Samsung has ever made--many see value in this but I'd wager a great many Galaxy fans aren't happy. The S6 has nearly become the Android version of the iPhone (and I'm not talking about direct design copying but rather overall implementation).

I personally like the latest design, but then I also am a fan of the iPhone and the similarities probably have a lot to do with it. IMO, the Galaxy S series (more specifically the standard design, not the edge model) has lost its identity. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing but I think an awful lot of Galaxy S fans do.

GSMArena also said S5 speaker is better than S6

And they somehow found S5 has more brightness than S6. From Displaymate article:

The most impressive are the increases in pixels per inch (from 432 to 577 ppi), higher pixel resolution (from 1920x1080 with 2.1 Mega Pixels up to 2560x1440 with 3.7 Mega Pixels), higher Absolute Color Accuracy (27 percent improvement), higher Peak Brightness (12 percent improvement), higher screen readability and Contrast in High Ambient Light (10 percent improvement), and higher display Power Efficiency (20 percent improvement).

And somehow they thought it would be a good idea to review batterylife on a pre-release firmware :)

You misread that--all of those improvements are for the S6 in regards to the S5

No, they were very clear that they found the S6 to have a dimmer display at max brightness compared to the S5, but found it to be brighter than the Note 4. Also they found the speaker to be quieter than the S5.

There are several things in their review that don't sound right to me. I'll wait for further reviews before taking their word for it.

Maybe its just me but i think the S6 will blow away the S3. I never got the S4 or S5 but i dont get every model. I have a Nexus 5 now but am very interested in the S6. The Notes for me are too big.

The larger phone buying public was not enamored with the S4 and S5. 2014 was a year full of losses for Samsung.

The S6 will help them gain ground. People are excited, pre orders are high, the amount of chatter is on par with Apple reveals.

I think the S6 is going to be phone of the year. Samsung Learned from the S4 and S5 failures.

Personally I liked my S5 though.

I also liked the S5. I really feel like the S3 was the magnum opus in Samsung's realm.. That thing was released when the equivalent iPhone was 3.5" with no LTE. Crazy.

Just playing devils advocate here. But really what does the S6 bring to the table that's so much more amazing than the S5 was a year ago ?

Better hardware and better camera are expected in the anual upgrades for a next gen phone.

No more water resistence. No more ss card. No more removable battery. Same Gingerbread looking Touchwiz, finally smooth because it needs insane super hardware to run it lag free, but still nowhere looking like a Nexus.

Early reviews point to average battery life. But nothing like the iPhone 6 Plus which shouid be the new standard all smartphones strive for IMO.

All I see is new build materials. Metal and glass vs. Polycarbonate, which once a case is wrapped around the phone becomes unnoticeable.

Not trying to be a d!ck here, but at the end of the day, what does the S6 do so much better or different than the S5 ?

Built in Wireless charging
Builtin Samsung Pay (bought Loop Pay) works at ALL terminals that swipe.
Better camera
Fast charging 10minutes = 4 hours
I think the fastest SSD available (Samsung makes their own SSDs)
Better build and design.
Got rid of that flap on the bottom :)
