SD card support, 3d touch support and waterproofing seem to be the 3 big add ons for the S7 over the S6. I have the Edge+ and looking to move down to the 5.1" or 5.5" models of the S7.
There's also the 12mp 1/2" sensor with approximately 1.8um pixel size with a F1.7 lense. This should drastically improve low light photography and allow a faster shutter speed in the dark preventing motion blur.

Although they would be good, they wouldn't really affect my usage. I still have 12.7GB free on my 32GB Edge+. Waterproofing would be nice to have, but I've never really wished that I had it since I got it. And if they come up with a good implementation of Force Touch or have waterproofing at all, I'd be surprised.
That camera would be industry leading, I'm sure, but I'm already in love with my current camera, and you know what they say about fixing it and it not being broke.

To be honest, there's a low chance that I'll get a Samsung as my next phone. Not only will there be little novelty, but unless they improve software support, I'll be jumping on HTC (if they're still mainstream at the time) or a Nexus or Moto (it they fix the shortcomings of stock Android)

I'll be staying away from Moto(rola) for a while. Lenovo is already messing up a good thing and have a feeling it will get worse. Don't trust Lenovo at all.

Besides Samsung, LG seems to have the best non-Nexus phones. Quicker updates than Samsung too.

The S designs have always been too curvy for my liking. Much prefer themore rectangular Sonys, Notes, iPhones and even Edge plus.

I personally think the S6 and S7 (from the looks of things) are too round.

http://phandroid.com/2016/01/27/galaxy-s7-edge-plus-cancelled/

Only two S7's being released;

- 5.1" standard Galaxy S7
- 5.5" Edge Galaxy S7

That's it, no other models supposedly coming. No S7 Plus, no Edge+, they don't want an 5.7" S7 Plus as they're afraid that's too much of the Note phablet type, which releases late Summer.

Good news are some sweet spec's;

  • Samsung will, in fact, implement a microSD slot
  • Samsung will employ batteries of 3,000mAh and 3,600mAh, respectively.
  • The devices will have 4GB of RAM and use either Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820.
  • The devices will be water resistant.
With the U.S. versions getting the SD820, hopefully that means better development, and CM13 ROM on the S7 fairly quick ?

The SD820 vs. Samsung's 7420 used in the Note 5 last year. SD820 = 20% faster in single-core, and about 5% slower in multi-core. The SD820 uses 30% less power than the SD810, and is also built on the new smaller die process making it more efficient and cooler running, and the SD820 is 40% faster than the SD810.

Sounds great. Really great actually.

But the most important rumor that needs to be confirmed is still the software optimization with Google's help.

If that happens plus all these hardware advances, it'll be a beast. Bring it on.

I heard the Google helping Samsung with Touchwiz thing for a year now. I thought the S6 would have the toned down TW, it didn't, then I thought for sure the Note 5 wiuid be the Googled TW, no. So we'll see if the S7 truly is more stockish vanilla Android ? Or just the same as the Note 5, which I expect.

Yeah I'm expecting maybe a few stock apps given more materialistic refinements, but otherwise exactly same software and backbone as the S6/Note 5 TW. We heard lots of rumours leading up to launch last year that TW was debloating, and even unbranded handsets came with 40 apps installed and much of the same old legacy guts running in the background as ever.

But a good AOSP ROM on that S7 hardware would be pretty sweet.

I really only have three phones on my wait and see wish list;

- OnePlus Three ( Metal body, AMOLED display, SD820 + 4GB RAM + AOSP OS, 3500mAh battery )
- HTC One M10 ( But not if it's the A9 / iPhone clone the new rumors point to )
- Nexus-N

Am I the only one disappointed in the benchmarks of the 820? It scored lower than the A9 still.

It does seem a little odd to me.
But then my Note 5 seems\feels just as fast and responsive as my 6s+ and its benchmarks are sky high!

Fair points about TouchWiz.

But credit is still due; TouchWiz has only gotten better, leaner, and smoother year after year. The iteration of TouchWiz on the S6 is such a good experience already. By all means, they should keep that train moving as obviously there is room to improve even more. And if Google is helping them this time with more than just material design, it can only get better.

I don't think Samsung would partner up with Google only to just get help with Material designing a few of their apps. That'd be a weak and arguably unnecessary reason to partner up.

Either the team-up-optimization rumor is true, and we'll get an even better TW experience, or it's not true and TW will make whatever gains Samsung can do on their own over previous iterations.

PS. Every OS has plenty of room for growth and improvement, including stock Android and iOS. Stock Android and iOS both need more features among other more minor improvements, whereas TW needs more optimization and better battery/RAM management since it's already pretty feature-rich. Everybody has room to grow.

UI is faster on Android, it doesn't really wait for animations.

But anything where frames and power matters - the iPhone is still way faster (games, photo or video editing etc)

I think the difference with Samsung and the reason why these S7 rumors are so exciting is that if Samsung can really elevate their software game on where it's weakest, you're gonna be talking about an OEM that is already releasing hands down the best hardware, and then adding potentially what could be the best software? One that is feature-rich already (more so than stock Andrioid and easily more so than iOS), and now one that is optimized well with good battery life and better RAM management (the larger battery and extra RAM will help too!)...?

This is a potent combination. It just has to be true first. ;)

And even if it may not do well this year against the iPhone 7 (something I argue has more to do with Apple's status than the actual specs/software showdown), it'll once again secure itself as the top Android OEM. HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony, Huawei and whoever else will all be battling for a distant second place. Again.

Very promising. Not crazy about the all white color-scheme, but I guess TW is maturing.

Like I said, the potential on the software side is great for the S7. Samsung just has to actually deliver on these rumors.
On the plus side you can always get a dark theme from the Galaxy Store.

Have you seen this? I think it's probably a precursor to what TouchWiz will be like on the S7 in many ways: http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s6-marshmallow-hands-on-669647/
Here are some more videos that really show the difference between lollipop and marshmallow on the S6, my favorite update so far is how much faster the fingerprint scanner is. Can't wait for this on my Note.

Still don't like the idea of having the normal and Edge variants at different sizes.

Give me a regular S7 at 5.5", not a fan of the Edge device whatsoever. How do you hold the Edge without accidentally hitting the edges, or tapping the side of the phone ? Plus they look ugly compared to the regular phone.

I'm on the fence regarding this downsizing of options from Samsung.

On the one hand, I agree it streamlines their product lineup and makes it easier. On the other, I love options. So, I don't know.

I've actually expressed interest in a 5.1" sized S7 Edge variant. So if it no longer exists, I do feel it's a shame. But would it be too much if there were 4 new phones? S7, S7 Plus, S7 Edge, and S7 Edge Plus? And then later on, the Note?

It may be too much saturation. But it does mean less options for people who want the Edge.

I'm on the fence.

I have to use a case on my Edge+. A spigen hybrid to be exact. It helped me to eliminate 99% of the accidental screen touches. However, I won't be buying another Edge variant. Just doesn't serve much of a purpose for me. Plus, I like tempered glass screen protectors and its impossible to find any for this phone.
