I'm on the fence regarding this downsizing of options from Samsung.

On the one hand, I agree it streamlines their product lineup and makes it easier. On the other, I love options. So, I don't know.

I've actually expressed interest in a 5.1" sized S7 Edge variant. So if it no longer exists, I do feel it's a shame. But would it be too much if there were 4 new phones? S7, S7 Plus, S7 Edge, and S7 Edge Plus? And then later on, the Note?

It may be too much saturation. But it does mean less options for people who want the Edge.

I'm on the fence.

That would be the Note 5 if you don't like the Edge but want the size.

I'm only picking one up when the inevitable price plunge has happened. I lost over €800 on Samsung devices last year :(
It is like that with anything though. Depreciation is a fact of life, except with a very few items. In your case though, with so many phones, I think you won't have any problem waiting for the price drops, discounts and/or freebie offers. ;)

I was honestly surprised by the level if drop though this year and the speed the drop kicked in. :)

LOL, the people with this sickness cant wait. They just cant help it :p

In my case i find myself becoming less interested in the new phones coming out and havent paid any attention. I plan on keeping my GS6 til my Wife needs a new phone and then ill think about which one i want but it will probably be another Samsung. I think im just satisfied with what they are doing and didnt care for my Nexus 5 LG product as much.

Not interested in a iPhone as ive just tired of Apples greedy ways and ive grown less interested in a Windows phone but wont rule one out completely if they do something real nice but T-Mobile just doesnt seem to carry any good ones.

EDIT: damn, didn't see that this news had been posted already, sorry.

MEH! The S7 Plus would have been pretty much the only phone besides the iP7 that I would have cared about this year. The only thing I'm missing on iPhones at the moment is a 6" screen, and the N6 didn't do it for me.

I'm dumping my Edge+, because I prefer a smaller footprint phone (my front pocket will thank me!), I can actually use my high speed micro SD card on the S7 for both apps and media, and I like the idea of having a waterproofed phone. So, I'll be one of the first buying the S7. Don't really care if it depreciates and or will cost less in 2 months time.

What'll be funny is if for some reason the price of the s7 didn't drop quickly or by much this year. That would suck.

There's no question Samsung intends to focus on software this year: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Vagu...ung-to-work-on-improving-its-software_id77802

How and to what capacity, and whether Google is involved all is still a mystery...

The potential of the S7 continues to rise. It's all there for the taking. Samsung just has to come through.

EDIT: I see Fernandez above posted basically the same story from a different website. Hope, indeed.
[doublepost=1454006181][/doublepost]Typically, how long after release does it take for Best Buy to get unlocked Galaxy S phones? Say the S7 does launch March. When would BB typically start carrying it unlocked?

I think Samsung should also come out with a ' S7 Plus ' with same hardware and screen technology as the S7, only the Plus version being 5.7". Basically a Note without the S-Pen, and save the Note 6 still for the Fall release with some beefier updated spec's over this S7 Plus.

Has anyone heard about pricing? Will there be a lower starting price since that's the trend for Androids?

I think if the base 7 started at 599, it would tempt more consumers....which is obvious of course.

There were early rumors that this year's S7 would come out cheaper than last year's S6.

I hope so too. Either way, if price is an issue, it'd be wise to wait a few months. There are almost always either price drops and/or great promotions (Best Buy gift cards, free year of Netflix or whatever) that come along shortly after release. There'll be deals during release, I'm sure, too, but they only get sweeter and rather quickly.

I'm definitely waiting.

Then again -- as I half joked in an earlier post -- it'd be funny if for some reason, this year the prices don't drop that quickly. Heh.
[doublepost=1454082149][/doublepost]Who wants another unhealthy dosage of S7 hype?

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...-of-video-playback-at-full-brightness_id77825

A decently reliable leaker says the S7 is capable of 17 hours of video playback at full brightness.

That 3,000 mah along with Android 6 and other Samsung software optimizations could really help this device go the distance.

Add on quick charge and hopefully faster wireless charging? Oh boy.

If it seems too good to be true .... Nuff said ;)

But yeah definitely I'm not going anywhere near it at launch. There's no point me saying I won't get one because we all know I will just as with the Note 5 last year. But definitely I'm sticking too my guns and waiting it out. When I can pick one up for €400 a few months later I see no point paying launch prices for any android device anymore. My 64gb Edge was €949 on launch for heavens sake, and ended being sold for €400!!!

Even my Nexus is €100 cheaper now and can easily pick one up here for €450 practically brand new - given I paid €650 only a couple months ago, the drop in price of Androids is maddening. On the brightside my €350 for a sealed unlocked Z5 was a bargain, and that's what I will be aiming for with the other android devices launching this year.

If I can pick up a device €350-450 and sell it on later for €250- 300 a few months later, It's a lot better than €950 down to €400 in anyone's book.

One of my biggest pet peeves with Samsung, is how they do their updates;

Let's take the S6, last years flagship device. Yes it will be getting the new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, but still keep the same overall TW with some minor revisions in design.

But the new S7 will come out, again with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, but with an even newer and different Touchwiz, this all new TW will be the S7's only, and eventually on the Note 6, but the older S6 or Note 5 will NOT see this new Touchwiz, only the updated Android version.

Samsung is famous for doing this. The Note 3 / Note 4 was a great example, as was the S4 / S5. The S4 and Note 3 had the older ugly Touchwiz design, and then a year later the S5 and Note 4 release with an all new looking lighter Touchwiz, yeah the older S4 and Note 3 did get their Android version updated to the the current release, but TW didn't change on those phones, it still looked like the old ugly design, and only the S5 and Note 4 at the time had the new fresh TW.

Whereas HTC does it right with Sense. The One M7 launched with Sense 5 I think, then the M8 comes out with Sense 6, well eventually the older M7 got the Sense 6 update, and it changed the look and design of Sense, to be exactly that of the one on the M8. That's the way you do it right.

How the S6 runs Marshmallow will be a big factor in determining whether I upgrade to S7 or not. Or even any 2016 phone. Ideally, I would like to hang onto the S6 until I see the iPhone 7 and the Nexus 2016.

I will say though, that so far, if these rumors pan out, Samsung is making the S7 very tempting. They're hitting all the right notes so far. If everything truly pans out, the S7 will be an ultimate device. Essentially, as I said earlier, a perfected S6.

Yeah, that's my biggest pet peeve too. Though from this video showing marshmallow on the Note 4, it's possible Samsung may have learned its lesson, it looks almost exactly like the Note 5. I'm still skeptical though until they actually release it.

I agree.....I never knew why Samsung doesn't release the updated TW as an optional download. There is no reason why it wouldn't work on the newer devices.

I guess to 'coherse ' us into buying newer model. The Note Pro 12.2 situation was a particular sore spot. Released and then only matter of two - three months later they release Tab Pro with updated Touchwiz UX and yet they never bothered updating the Note 12.2 to it despite it essentially being the same hardware internals as Tab Pro line, so could easily have done so.

If it's just about icons, can't theming solve the different iterations of TW?

I do agree though that that's annoying of them to differentiate like that.

Seems like the S7 will be to the S6 what the 6s is to the 6. Not that it's a bad thing, in fact, it's a wise decision in terms of cost, since redesigning the phone every year is costly.

Yup. They're focusing on the s6's shortcomings. If they can pull it off it'll be the s6 perfected.
