Where abouts did you grab the official firmware from? had a quick look on Samsung's website but couldn't see any. thank you

You can not get any firmware from Samsung's website.

You must use sammobile.com/firmwares/

You can download official firmware from there.

Boom. Found an alt app that does the same thing without the lock screen issue: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.nullgrad.glimpse

Tested it a bunch of times.

Screen On Notification has to update their app.

EDIT: Serious though, thanks for all the help earlier from everyone that chimed in.
[doublepost=1457993096][/doublepost]

I don't know why or how Glimpse app works. But it does. I get notification, the screen turns on to show me, if I let it sit and the screen goes off, I can still turn it on and unlock with my fingerprint. No more inconsistent additional security messiness.

Thank goodness.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.nullgrad.glimpse

Interesting because the author of Glimpse even says:

Q: My Smart Locks don’t seem to work anymore!

Some functions of Glimpse Notifications, such as customized lock screen display times, require it to programmatically turn off the screen. However, unfortunately, Android provides no call to just turn off the screen. You can only fully lock it, overriding any smart locks. There is even an issue for this logged here. You are more than welcome to star it, so it gets more attention from Google.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/...3cv47MJJHGNtwbYjM/edit#heading=h.mzs5ddy28npf

But glad it is working as you like it! My guess there is an option in there that if you turn it on you will run into the same issues. So just avoid "customized lock screen display times" whatever that is :)

Guys, this moment just happened to me:

I was paying at a grocery and wanted to use Samsung pay for the first time and claim that $30 free gift card (look it up. Can't find link now). So I go to pay and hold up my phone to the credit card slider thing and the cashier says, "no apple pay here." And I said very legitimately (wasn't trying to be snarky at all) that this is Samsung pay. And right then, the transaction went through. Exactly like in that Samsung commercial. True story. What a moment.

Cashiers usually look at me like I'm nuts when I hold my Note 5 next to the magnetic reader. Then it goes through and they just sit there for a moment, totally confused like a deer in headlights.

I have a tough time picking between silver vs black S7 edge. The gold also looks good but too reflective and fingerprint magnet. I already have a gold LG and I like the black bezels around it and making my onscreen buttons have an all black background too. So I get a gold and black look. Hard to also theme a gold colored device. I already liked the gold option of the S6 edge last year but found it too reflective. My LG isn't reflective on either side.

I was siding with silver at first because the white backgrounds looks better with it than gold. The silver looks better with the metal borders too. And I remember owning a glacial silver M7 and the rear rarely showed fingerprints similar to white. Black is guilty of showing that too much and grease/oily sweat. It is also way too common. But the silver is also reflective. It doesn't have too much black bezels around it like the M7, so the display gets distracted while black contrasts the display much better.

Real toss-up between black vs silver. They honestly all look good to me including gold, but I'm like 50/50 between those two colors. For pure aesthetics and uniqueness, silver (S7 edge exclusive). For video watching and the OLED floating effect with Material Design, black. I saw a voting for them in PhoneArena and silver was the more popular option while black was 2nd. Black is like the safe and standard color choice in the longer run when some people hate the distraction of the borders and start getting sick of the other colors. But black gets dirty faster too than a silver/grey option and probably the LEAST stylish.

I can tell you I have zero regrets going with silver.

The reflective-ness is really not distracting at all. It's a beauty of a smartphone. Seeing it in pictures and even trying it in person is not the same as actually owning the silver edge. To have it with you all the time, the silver just sings. Perfect balance of sleek and sophisticated.

Very glad I went with silver instead of gold or black.

I don't like black phones, so when I say the black is gorgeous, you can bet it means something. It really blew my mind.

And I actually love gold phones. Love them. My s6 is gold. But this year's gold was just a tiny bit too bronze-y for me.

That's just to give you an idea of what the silver was up against.

Hope that helps your decision.

PS. Regarding fingerprints... Yo, it is a MAGNET for fingerprints. No joke. Buyer beware. (But worth it.)

Have you figured out why and how your screen turns on for notifications without a third party app?
Sorry. Was out for the day. I have nothing special done. No 3rd party apps for notifications. I don't use Facebook or WhatsApp. My s6 Edge+ was like this too, which is why I am confused. I can take a video if you like or I can take screen shots of my settings. I'm honestly confused by your issue.

Since there is no root coming for the U.S versions with the SD820 ( Which is funny actually, as we thought the Snapdragon ones would be the best option for root + custom AOSP ROM's,, well LOL that's not gonna happen )

Bottom line, no root = no buy for me. I can only deal with Touchwiz running with root and Xposed. But for everyone else here, I wish you the best here, this does seem like a pretty kick ass piece of hardware, and hopefully you all have a great time with this sweet phone.

I just wish the GPE program was till around, an S7 Edge GPE would be a nerds wet dream :)
I'm not going to miss being able to root my T-Mobile phones anymore. I was only rooting them so that I could block ads in apps using Adaway. Now that I've discovered Adguard, I don't need to root.

I believe you. I don't know either. Don't think it was ever a stock android nor TouchWiz feature, was it?

Here are two S7 Edge phones side by side. The one on the right has the DPI increased and the one on the left does't. Click on it to see the bigger pic if you can't see good enough...

After I saw this photo below and video unboxing from DroidLife, I already made my choice...

But for people who picked black onyx, don't regret it. The advantages are -

+ Black is easier for video watching

+ Easier to theme + OLED for floating effect

+ Easier to take photos in any lighting condition, front or back

For me, the only reason I want (although not need) an S7 edge is DESIGN. And I find the black to be the LEAST attractive. Even the white looks better to me. Silver isn't as garish as gold while still maintaining the aesthetics. Black covers up all the interesting design lines like it did to the One M7. From a distance, you put it next to a regular S7 and most people couldn't distinguish between the edge variant except size.

I also realized I have alot of video downloads but I actually prefer watching them on my TV or iPad. Only on occasion, I will watch a favorite video or stream on YouTube to kill time. I really don't like watching videos on my smartphone as I tend to get sleepy. I'm also not much of a shutterbug. So platinum silver wins for me but I wouldn't blame anyone for picking up any of the other excellent color options including the least reflective black for watching videos and taking photos which won't distract your eyes like the others.

Aesthetically -
1. Silver
2. Gold
3. White
4. Black

Practicality -
1. Black (best for display and snapping photos)
2. White (least reflective, shows least fingerprints)
3. Silver (reflective but not as bad as below)
4. Gold (too garish for the eyes)

Most popular from PhoneArena poll -
1. Silver
2. Black
3. Gold
4. White

My preferences -
1. Silver
2. Black
3. White (this could flip flop for black for #2)
4. Gold (already have a gold phone and not as blinding)

Silver it is.

I think Silver looks the best, but I couldn't handle the glare and fingerprints, so went Black. Can't go wrong with any of the three edge colors though.

No idea. First time I used Touchwiz since the S3, was when I got the s6 Edge+ late last year. I thought it was normal for the screen to light up when you got a notification, then after a few seconds go back to always on mode (or all dark if always on is off)??

I've been going through my apps and settings to see if I did anything weird and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I can send you photos of my settings if that would help. Sorry, but I think I am more confused on this than you. o_O

Wow Samsung pay is amazing! I have used it about 10 times in the past few days. The majority of the places looked annoyed and said they don't accept mobile payments.

Then Boom! It worked like a charm. Pretty awesome that it works on any terminal. It is like what Apple pay was supposed to be.

Also pretty stoked to get a free $30 whole foods gift card. Going to swing by there for a few drinks on Samsung this Wednesday.

Ha, that's happens to me all the time, though I still feel wierd saying it's Samsung Pay. But yeah, it's awesome, the best mobile pay system out and really feels like something apple should have done. With all the flak we give Samsung, there are things that Samsung has nailed, like double tap the home button to bring up the camera and swiping up from the lockscreen to activate Samsung pay.

I think the silver is the best colour by far but it's not available in the UK so far. We have a choice of gold or black.

Seems like the international version of the S7 edge is the one to get for better battery life and more storage. GSMArena gave the Exynos version a 98 hour rating.

Exynos / silver platinum / 64 GB minimum for me...
