Personally, I think Applke holds tech back on purpose simply to keep fleecing customers of their money.

I wanted to address this one by itself. I do agree they do that on occasion (remember the iPad launched with no camera but had a the space built in?) But most of the time its one of two things. Either the technology isn't mature enough yet or cheap enough yet.

On the issue of the maturity of the tech. Remember, Apple sell hundreds of millions of these phones a year, so whatever they put in must also be massed produced at the same level. When amoled first became good on the Note 4, other oems couldn't use that same screen because Samsung couldn't produce enough at the time. Now Samsung has not only the quality, but the manufacturing down where they can make a lot more, notice how many other handsets are now using the same amoled displays Samsung is? Now if Apple were to start using this display, that means Samsung would have to make an additional 100 million displays, not an easy task. It's because of this large scale that forces apple at times to use older more proven tech instead of the cutting edge stuff.

And the other issue is that apple has a lot of their parts custom made, which is more expensive, so they have to dial back certain things that would eat into their profit margin. It sucks because as a fan of tech you want that all, but these are businesses trying to make money and they all decide where to spend their money on. Some would rather use off the shelf parts so they can afford to use newer tech where available. But they all have a budget on what they can put in for how much they want to charge, Apple just prefers use their budget on other things.

I just noticed the Oculus update now lets you record and take snap shots. But it's still feels experimental and buggy at the moment, no control, no sound, and it stoping when leave an app. It's also makes some apps lag. But it's still a good start. Here's some I uploaded.

That looks really cool. Can't wait to try it myself.

That's a good point. I do wonder if maybe the iPad 3 was a lesson to them in terms of not rushing a product for the sake of it. Definitely a misstep in their history imo.

Got my Gear VR yesterday. I can't wait to try out some of the games that come with the bundle. As someone else pointed out......this brings watching Netflix to a whole new level! :)

I understand all this, but don't forget that Apple is also sitting on a giant pile of money. It's difficultly to deny that Apple can get away with using older tech to keep manufacturing costs down because they know their products will sell well regardless due to the brand. I don't think any other company could get away with what Apple is doing.

Can you imagine, for example, if Apple were the one leading the charge in larger screen size options, and other OEM's were the ones refusing and sticking to just the 4 inch phone? Or NFC. Or wireless charging. Anything. They wouldn't last. Yet Apple gets away with it. And gets away with it with record breaking sales. And because of that, it's easy to be tempted to simply say, well kudos to them! They obviously shouldn't change anything! (As you know, I argue it's a mistake to see it that way.)

I have no doubt there's truth in what you're saying. Not contending with any of the specifics. It's just such a shame that that's what's happening on the Apple side. Because it now feels like the competition is forging ahead and providing better, newer, and more exciting options. Whatever the reasons and logistics are, it feels like Apple is behind.

The s7 edge is the most worry-free phone I've ever used. Never have to worry about battery life, water or dust, whether a credit card scanner will read Samsung pay or not, the qualities of photos or videos. Even charging is a more worry free affair because it's so much faster and easier. Software features like quick toggles or edge panels are all customizable to my liking and personal usage. All worry free.

Everything about the s7 edge is here to help you just use the device, and not have to over think about anything else. We once spoke of the iPhone like this. Where new or novel technology made the device exciting and fun to use. Where the design made you proud and in awe every time you pulled it out. I sincerely cannot say that about the iPhone anymore. Even their new features are hampered by Apple's refusal to allow people to customize their phone (again, why can I not pick what to put in control center? So frustrating. What happened to the all importance of personal use Apple fans keep talking about?).

Anyway, not all that was directed at you. Speaking generally.

PS. And let's not forget now Samsung (and others) is helping users get into virtual reality, which I can't wait to try.

Did it ship before your expected date listed on their site? Mine is scheduled for 4/1.

You're right, it is a shame. I remember when the iPhone 4 came out, it was something that just felt light years ahead of every thing else, and now the iPhone feels almost the same as everything else. I'm hoping the rumored "iPhone Pro" can be their experimental handset, one where they don't have to worry about what put in and just go nuts.

It did! They said it would not arrive til 4/1. But I got it yesterday :)

Did you get some sort of tracking # too? I hope mine and my father's come in before then too. I am holding off selling my S7 Edge for the VR so far. I am really leaning towards just sticking with my iPhone. I changed up my settings on my S7 Edge, so I am hoping my issues go away with the setting changes.

I got an email saying it was shipped and the tracking info with delivery date a few days ago.

I agree with all. IPhone 4/4S, I believe, was my favorite generation. It was a great time then to be an iPhone owner.

And I think the bolded is a great idea for Apple. It would be wildly expensive though, but it'd still be something.

I've heard that there is some more adult streaming sites that have some VR videos now lol

One of my contacts that are in my people's edge panel, her birthday is coming up and there's a little birthday icon next to her edge icon. When you click on her icon, it says her birthday date in the big edge contact screen that comes up.

I already knew the birthday was coming, but nice little feature.

Again, the edge panels proving themselves to be ever more useful.

PS. How did you guys get folders into the edge panel? Not really seeing that function in the apps edge settings. Is it part of a different edge panel?

Can I just say one more time how much I feel Samsung's Internet browser is simply one of THE BEST browsers out there. After using 4.0 for some time now, and with Samsung now making it a separate app they update from the OS, it can only get better. I love how the secret mode is password/fingerprint protected, the fingerprint sign in for Web pages is so useful, Ad block support (huge feature) and it works, bookmarks are only one click away, tapping the address bar pulls up quick access (seperate from bookmarks), and you also get full screen mode. I don't want the notification bar taking up valuable space on the display. I don't know why more apps don't have this option, especially Chrome. All of Samsung's apps make full use of the display. I like that. Glad to see they got a new head of mobile who's software oriented. The video and music player are now seperate as well. Hope they do this with S Planner and S Note too. I won't use any other calendar. I love the stock music player, it's one of the best out there. I really hope that means they will start updating these apps separately as well, just like their browser. Samsung takes a lot of crap for their software, but I gotta say, they've come a very long way.

I concur 100%. It always was crap compared to Chrome, but now I use it exclusively on my S7e. Once fingerprint authentication comes to Chrome for logins, I may switch back, but right now, Samsung's internet is better.

Do you really think that will ever happen, sadly it's all.about playing it safe, nothing exciting anymore.. such a shame. The industry needs all the big players to push each other forwards, and it.just ain't happening..

Yup, it's now my default unless chrome gets ad block support.

How did you get it to hide the notifications bar? Mine still shows, the last time I saw that feature was on the note 4.

I think so, I mean for macs they have the iMac and MacBook Pro as the mainstream device and have been able to try new things with auxiliary products (the MacBook, Mac Pro, and even the MacBook Air was experimental when first released). So hopefully the 3 iPhone sizes become their mainstream product and then they start releasing auxiliary experimental phones, and hopefully the "iPhone Pro" is the beginning of that.
