When I receive a text, email or what's app message on my S7, the screen doesn't light up. It makes a noise and the notification LED starts flashing, but the actual screen doesn't light up.

Is this normal? Can I change this? I'm missing a lot of messages.

Texts should wake the screen up but doesn't on WhatsApp or email. Not sure why your texts are

You could always download nils lockscreen notifications app where every notification will wake the screen

Wow. Camera quality seems to be much better than on my S6.
I feel qualified to comment on this as I've taken close to 8000 images on the S6 and about 2000 on my S7 Edge so far.

The S6 actually captures more detail and has arguably better image processing than the S7. The S7 has a lot of over sharpening and noise reduction applied to its images, it's especially noticeable in landscape photography where the details in bushes/shrubs get lost on the S7.

Now another thing you need to factor in is the different aspect ratio of the resultant images and the difference in focal length. The S7 has a wider lens than the S6 so optical distortion is also an issue at times but Samsung has a setting to auto correct for it.

One other thing is the weak IR filter on the S7, it causes slight purple halos when taking pictures of a candle for example. You can always play with the angle and it ends up being less visible.

Every camera has areas that could be improved and a list similar to the one above could be crafted for the S6 as well.

There's a lot of areas where the S7 has improved upon the S6, lowlight is noticeably improved as well as the speed to focus and capture in low light. Dynamic range is improved as is the white balance detection in Auto Mode. The S7 also handles high ISO slightly better than the S6, anything above 400 ISO on the S6 was a grainy mess while on the S7, 800 ISO is still relatively usable.

I have a lot of images taken in the same area with both the S6 and S7 although at different times but in under relatively the same conditions. I also still have my S6 in case you want some comparison shots.

Short story:

I was at a wedding in the evening. Outdoors. Low light. The s7e camera absolutely rocked. Great photos. And everyone remarked how my photos came out better than theirs. Most of their smartphones? iPhones.

The s7e camera is a real winner, especially when you need it to really come through. And double tap to launch? I was always the first one with the camera out and ready to snap during candid/fun moments.

A real victory for the camera experience.

Damn, those are postcard worthy. :)

Were those shot on auto or pro mode?
Thanks, those were all taken with Auto Mode, I believe I did reduce the exposure using the slider but that's it.

The first one was actually taken out of a moving car, I'm quite pleased with how it came out given the circumstances.

Not sure what that white dot is. It wasn't in the sky. Many say there is a defect in the camera that does that in some scenes.

I'm also naked here and there with a Zagg front and back. One thing is that my chubby hands always get in the way of the screen so I do get some erroneous presses here and there. A case does away with that though....Loving this phone so far. I actually feel bad bashing Samesucks for all these years. Battery has been stellar, camera is amazing, and Im loving all of the themes and customization....things I missed with not having a jailbreak. All we need is root for all of the little minor tweaks. Package Disabler Pro helped immensely in getting rid of the bloatware and removing the gaming stuff that severely bogged down games. Waiting on WWDC and seeing what iOS 10 brings to the table now...

I have a Note 4 but I still miss:
- flexibility of iMessage for sending pictures/video
- photo app
- overall iOS apps looks nicer than most Android app.
- mail app is better than everything I tried so far on Android (gmail, inbox, cloudmagic)

pros of my Samsuck:
- battery is good
- camera is also good (but I dislike the software). I tried not using samsung's camera app but there is a different in picture quality when I don't use the samsung app. For best results, I need to use the Samsung's app.

cons of my Samsuck:
- when I need to send a picture (which are always too big), I edit them inside gallery, it saves a stupid copy of the picture I just cropped, I open SMS app, send cropped picture, go back to gallery and delete the duplicate it created.
- permissions. There are plenty of old app that doesn't support Marshmallow security model, by default most of them ask for stupid permission (like contact, sms, phone permissions).
- weird things happen when I hold the phone without intentionally using it. Icons are moving to different page and things like that. I have difficulty of holding it without pressing the side power button and then a mess happen.
- bloatware
- several apps for same purpose
- slow update cycle for patches.
- samsung doesn't update touchwiz (still have no theme support on mine) even If I got the marshmallow update yesterday.

I was tempted by the S7, but I would have the same cons as today. Their new messaging apps announced at GoogleIO looked great but it still doesn't integrate SMS, and only a small fraction of people will install it.
