That's a Samsung issue that needs to be rectified in Android N. Can't be taking adopted storage out again. My cousin doesn't want Samsung devices after the Note 3 he has doesn't offer smart lock on lollipop. He is going with pure android this time by. I want a Samsung device as my next phone since I have the VR set, enjoy their UI, and enjoy their hardware advantages.

I would accept adoptable storage. I think 95% of what I use will not suffer from it and/or will not be noticeable. I never take my SD card out nowadays.

That's probably the biggest issue with 32GB storage as the default for the S7 Edge.

What's the reason Samsung isn't offering affordable storage as an option in the settings?

They changed their minds about the standard scaling versus condensed scaling option when people voiced they wanted it in the settings. Why hasn't the same thing happened with adoptable storage? Just curious because I'd love the option, too. I don't mind committing an SD card to adoptable. Expandable storage is cheaper and provides more storage tier options.

Let us choose whether we want to fully commit an SD card to a device or not.

Yea, On my S7 edge. Too many of my apps can't be moved to external, and Oculus and it's apps are taking up plenty of space. I only have 3gb left of internal space.

But I'll see with the Note 7. It might not be compatible with the Oculus, which is fine with me as I plan on keeping the S7 edge. But I still prefer 64gb.
It isn't compatible with current Gear VR. That's been pretty much confirmed.

Likely because it can be buggy on all the devices that do have it, plus people have a habit of skimping and buying slow, cheap but large capacity micro SD cards. Put one of those in and it can slow down the entire system when adoptable storage is enabled and cause issues with lines of 4k video etc.

Which kind of kills the benefit of them using super fast internal memory.

Plus... Even with super fast micro SD in your device, there are still occasional hiccups with adoptable storage. Content sometimes not loading or hanging briefly requiring refresh or at worst a restart of the entire device.

Adoptable storage seems great at first glance. Then when you look deeper it has some gothcas.

Can you imagine a person inserting a 64GB card and filling it up with stuff...then seeing a super fast new 128Gb card on Amazon...buying it and replacing cards? Then finding out his phone might not boot or his data is gone or corrupted.

Ah, I see. Is this a common problem that arises with HTC 10 users who are using adoptable storage? Just curious. I know the pool of HTC 10 users is much smaller.

There is a way around that. Make only essential apps stay on the internal memory while putting "non-essential apps" on SD slots. Bloatware still disabled of course.

There is a pool of HTC 10 users lol? I had one for two days and got rid of it. Extremely expensive and offers little value for the price tag.

I thought part of adoptable storage was you could combine the internal storage and external (sd card) into one system image? The phone would reformat and then see the combined storage spaces as one new storage space? Or did i get that wrong?

I agree on the HTC 10...maybe if it was say $400 as the OPO3 then it might be worth it.

That's what I thought too about adoptable storage.

I thought you can just port over apps from one to the other. If it merged into one storage unit, then that's scary if it has bugs or corrupt data.

yeah....or you want to move to a bigger or faster sd card and pull it out without thinking.

I think I am just going to get a regular S7 probably. Seeing the Note 7 is going to be $700-$800, that's too pricey for what upgrades it offers over the S7. 2GB of RAM, 821 processor, Iris Scanner, slightly bigger battery, and other minor upgrades? Not worth the extra $300-$400.

Now to find the right deal. If not, I might go Nexus 6P.

Every time I handle another phablet and then go back to my phone, I'm just reminded of how amazing Samsung's design is for the edge. The accomolishment in form factor is just leagues ahead of everyone else.

More confirmed drownings of the S7 Active by CNET. They admit it is not a likely scenario to happen in daily usage, but it does not meet the IP68 standards limits in their tests either:

Sorry you can't be here to defend Samsung @jamezr. I will miss hearing your spin on this.

Luckily for the consumer, Samsung has been forced to recognize this water damage under standard warranty due to the press on the issue. Hopefully their CSRs get the message sooner than later.

Props Samsung here! Hopefully they find what is going wrong and correct the issues for future customers. This is a much better response than denial or citing 100s of youtube videos online.
