Can one change the dpi of the 7 edge in developer options?
You can change the dpi in the regular display settings. It's called "screen zoom"

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting an S7. Whether I do will depend mainly on how much use I can get out of the video capture. I'd appreciate it if someone can help me out with the following.

1. During video capture, can shutter speed be set independently of frame rate or does the device control shutter speed?
2. Can high frame rate videos get exported with all frames intact? I'm not interested in creating slow-mo effect videos. I want to be able to step through high-frame-rate videos frame-by-frame.

Thanks

The GS7 is an absolute fabulous device. I recently received on through my work as an upgrade to my old GS4 and the differences between what Samsumg was doing in 2013 compared to what it was doing in 2016 is night and day.

When i had my s4 as my company phone i would find myself still using my SE or 6S Plus as a work device instead of the S4 which was supposed to be the device i did all my work on..

Now with my S7 i use my iphones less and less even personally. The GS7 is a wonderful device and one that has earned Samsung my respect whereas i used to absolutely despise anything Samsung... Now not so much ... theyve stepped there game up tremendously.

Only thing i will ask is... what kind of 3rd party keyboard is good or close to Apple's.. i absolutely hate the Samsung on screen keyboard?

Never really considered whether or not its close to Apple's KB. But I always use Gboard (Google's own KB) instead of the Samsung KB. I find it nice and uncluttered compared to the Samsung one.

The best keyboard for me is Swiftkey. It's hard to beat the iOS keyboard because of 3D Touch gestures.

[doublepost=1490559269][/doublepost]Let's see if this one is better. I put Gboard on it for now.

Same here, I'm also using GBoard, gets the job done very well. :)

I've been using this keyboard since you all told me about it and it is much better than the stock SS one. The Samsung one was way too cramped and typing felt horrible. I kept messing up what I was trying to text and the predictive text was just as bad almost. Definitely not my favorite keyboard.

However this Gboard is very close to Apple's keyboard which I had grown accustomed to. Considering I had been on an iPhone since the iPhone 4s launch and my last Android phone I used regularly was a GS2. I did own a gs4 but I hardly used it even for work which it was a work device.

This s7 however I use constantly now.

Anyone on 7.0, could you please run a geekbench score so I can compare mine? My phone has been getting slower lately, especially after 7.0, it's worse when waking up after a while. I've realized that my Note 5 feels smoother than my S7. I've even done a restore and it still feels the same. Here are some I ran today, the first two I let the phone sit for a bit to cool down, and the 3 is after clearing the cache and restarting. Thanks.

Wow. Exynos:

2017-04-01 07.48.34.png

It's at least as fast as on the day I bought it, and battery life improved. I am fascinated by the fact that apparently my Exynos S7 is over 10% faster than average Exynos S7 o_O

Well, I've partially fixed, I uninstalled the theme I was using (material design) and it has speed up a bit, but it still lags when switching tasks and when I first wake it from sleep. I guess this is that famous Samsung slowing. But it's weird because even after a restore it's still lagging.

@Everybody talking about keyboards, check out this post I made in another thread about the Google Keyboard. I'm not sure people realize how powerful it's become...

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/google-keyboard.1972285/page-3#post-24410600

For convenience sake, I'll C&P it as well:

Don't know how many people are privy to how powerful the Google keyboard, aka Gboard, has become since last week's update.

It translates texts on the fly, for one:

https%3A%2F%2Fblueprint-api-production.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fuploads%2Fcard%2Fimage%2F408954%2Fcd57dbde-2ec4-41a2-b0b1-646eaf11d307.gif

And now includes GIF and better Google search integration. Suggestions have dramatically improved, too, I've noticed. It'll suggest a word, and then depending on your next word, it'll autocorrect the first one if it guessed wrong. Smart stuff. And voice typing is as accurate as ever.

Also, some of us have been discussing the one 3D Touch function that is almost unanimously praised -- the force touch cursor movement -- and I just want to remind people that Gboard has a similar function in the space bar that doesn't require force touching. You can gesture left and right along the space bar and it'll move the cursor accordingly. While it's missing the up-down movement, this still serves as a great way to move your cursor around.

Another useful gesture is in the backspace. You can swipe left to highlight and erase text, which I find very useful. Furthermore, it leaves what you just deleted in the suggestion bar in case you want it back. A kind of "undo," if you will. This gif demonstrates both the spacebar gesture and backspace gesture. Together, they work really well.

ezgif.com-crop_thumb-1.gif

And lastly, let's not forget about gesture-typing, which I think Gboard has really improved upon. I find it as good, if not better, than Swype. It's particularly useful during those one handed situations, but even if both hands are free, gesture-typing is just plain faster. Once you get good at it, you can type out full sentences with merely a few strokes. Emulating a typewriter (that normally employs all ten fingers) with only two thumbs just doesn't make much sense anymore in a software-based keyboard. Gesture-typing has become an invaluable feature. I would never trade it for multi-directional cursor movement, for example.

Even better is if you have a larger/wider phone, you can set your keyboard to align left or right, and still gesture-type very accurately.

Gboard-Tips-Tricks-14.jpg

Either side is easy to initiate. You long press comma key to align the keyboard to the left side, and long press the return key for the right.

Gboard doesn't get enough love. It is, in my opinion, the best smartphone keyboard to date. It's stable and fast, feature-rich with powerful search and translation built right in, and it's customizable (not just themes, but things like keyboard height, too). And it accomplishes all this solely in the software -- no need for additional hardware tech like a pressure sensitive screen.

This feels like a keyboard that is smart, advance, and adapted to the times.

Ok, I may have figured out the problem, and it was an accident too. I installed a pixel theme on my S7 to try something new but didn't like the way the round icons looked in the Google now folders. So I side loaded the pixel launcher and wow my phone is flying again. Set everything up and uninstalled the Google now launcher and so far everything has been running good again. So I would suggest not to use the Google now launcher.

Also, thanks for the suggestion of the Google keyboard, I've been using the Samsung because of the always on number row at the top, but that has been added now to the Google keyboard. Using that now as my default.

7.0 has really made my gs7 change for the better.yesterday was a day I really needed my cell to last as I was not going to have a charger on hand for at least a day.

I set optimized performance mode and lowered all the specs to get the battery to last as long as possible.
set screen to 720p
set cpu to clock 70%
lowered screen brightness by 10%
set battery saving in drop down

and I'm blown away! I'm at 20% now and it's been almost a day.

Yeah, now having used my phone for most of the day, I can say it is much better. That's wired that the Google now launcher bogged it down so much, it's supposed to be a light weight launcher which was one the appeals.

But I'm happy now, it had been driving me nuts what was going on, even switched back to my note for bit because it was running better. But glad to have my smallish speedy phone back.

Is anyone that has an S7 willing to give Bixby and S8 launcher a try?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/samsung-s8-bixby-assistant-t3582729
Came here to post just that. I'm doing it right now :p

Will report back when done.

Update 1:
Installing the S8 Touchwiz didn't go so well. Launcher would not load and kept crashing (along with Bixby). Had to go into Apps > Touchwiz Home > Storage > Clear Data & Cache. Lost all my folders, etc. *tears*

Bixby installed fine. Time to install S8's AOD now, and then I start testing Bixby. :D

Update 2:
AOD installed fine. You'll have to clear data after installing otherwise it'll just keep crashing. Works fine.

Bixby is pretty useless at this point since you can't use voice; it's just cards.

Update 3: S8 Touchwiz sort of lagged in the beginning. It's been a few minutes now and it's pretty snappy. Apart from me losing my organization, I'm quite happy.

So, my S7 Edge with BTU firmware that was still on January finally got an update this morning. The update pushed security patches from January all the way up to... February. They're f-n kidding me, right?

Apologies for missing this guy's.

I just ran Geekbench on my S7 Edge with lastest BTU FW Update (Feb patch), first time I ever run a benchmark on this phone.

Exynos truly is beastly :D

Worked on it yesterday with my friends Edge, he likes it a lot and is not getting the s8 for now.

Don't know how far one would get cloning the s8 without being rooted but for now he is happy. Instructions on xda for getting some s8 apps on the s7s but I think one needs to be rooted so if someone's device is they can try them.

Man I wish they would implement more of these things in the iOS version. Especially the align to side function, one handed typing is a bitch on the 7 Plus.
