Well given it is only available in 32gb in most markets and does not fully support internal memory integration I would say it is a step back. I would rather buy a 128gb S6 edge or 64gb edge plus.

My 64gb Edge plus is currently my main driver because my 32gb Z5 premium with 200gb sd card does not cut it given the sd card limitations pre marshmallow.

Actually, I think Samsung made the right decision not use Adoptable Storage.

I would rather be able to pop my SD card in and out without wiping it all and not being able to use it on any other devices.

But to be fair SD support for internal memory has always been quite messy and inconsistent. Not all apps could be stored on the SD card and not all data was transferred over. The only thing SD cards have every really been useful for to me is storing media such as music, photos and videos. However having said that I would much rather have my 128GB 6S plus than having only 32GB of internal storage augmented with an SD card.

One of the things that put me off getting the S6 edge plus as a secondary phone was the fact that it was only available in 32GB from most of the carriers in the UK.

I think it gets messy when you have some apps stored on the SD card and some on the phone and some apps stored in both places. I agree that the best solution is to keep all the apps on the phone's internal storage and just use the SD card for media, which as you say can be easily transferred to another device.

Honest curiosity but why would you want to transfer sd cards on other devices. I have over 7 phones and about 10 128gb cards most now discarded for 200gb versions and have never transferred sd cards between devices. Sd cards are cheap as chips that 1.) there is no reason to skimp on potential fakes and 2.) to share between other devices.

I pretty much throw away (well leave them unused in cupboards) once higher memory ones become available.

Yes plus the Adoptable Storage wipes the SD card. It's a great thing if you literally JUST want extra storage.

But if you want to use the SD card as it has historically been used - e.g. transfer files from computer, pop into another device etc - then it's useless.

Yes Sd card support has been awful typically on Android phones but Marshmallow is suppose to change all that. It is therefore strange why Samsung did not adopt tbis marshmallow feature.

As for 6 edge plus in the uk, it is widely available in 64gb form.

To transfer files to computer just connect the phone to the computer.

Say for example if I've got a bunch of movies on an SD card that I had in my phone, but I wanted to put them in my tablet instead.

Or just moving from an old phone to a new phone. I don't need tonnes of storage so my 64GB card is perfectly good tbh.

Not from O2. You can only get it in 32GB. As it was going to be a secondary phone I did not want to buy it sim free after spending £789 on my iPhone 6S plus.

Oh can you not transfer media from your computer to the SD card and then put into your phone? I'm talking about on the S7?

What really irritates with all the hands on impressions either written or video is that not one addresses the elephant in the room. Has the memory management been addressed.

They have the hardware nailed down, but it's going to drive me nuts if the most powerful android on the market, can still only multitask like the most budget android handset.

Looks like we will have to wait until it's in real people's hands as it's quite clear from the impressions videos so far that people are being constrained about what they can say by the Samsung Marketing department (a common practice), hence they all read & sound like the entire class has copied each other's homework.

Fix it ... I'll purchase as soon as it's available here (usually beginning of April in Ireland)

Not fixed ... I'll wait a few months until the resale market has a lot of them and price has dropped considerably.

It feels at the moment were so close to perfect, and yet ... Still so far.

What did you make of the Note 5 MRU? I thought it was much better than the S6 (as it should be given specs and price). I'm not a power user so had to check purposely rather than noticing it as a day-to-day issue.

When I tried the MM beta on the S6 in January, it was more-or-less holding the same amount of apps, around eight or nine, as the Note 5. On that basis I'm optimistic but it does need clarifying and would be a shame given they've pretty much nailed the hardware for a lot of people's needs.

I found both the Note 5 and Edge + were improved by the extra 1gb. I would still get the refreshing but not to same extent as the original edge. If i didn't have so many phones each year then in likelihood i would compromise and accept it, but the fact i do go through so many other devices which handle multitasking better it makes it more 'in my face' and it irks more than anything simply because i know it doesn't need to ... If they fixed it, without question it would be my main go to Android device.

I'm really no Samsung fan, but of the two new phones, the LG G5 and Galaxy S7 Edge, you seem to be getting a lot more with the S7 Edge.

Size = 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7 mm 159g - LG G5
Size = 150.9 x 72.6 x 7.7 mm 157g - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

Size wise they are extremely similar, with the larger screen S7 Edge actually almost smaller than the G5, it's narrower and weighs less.

Battery = 2,800mAh in the G5, and 3,600mAh in the S7 Edge, that's a MASSIVE difference in battery.
Screen size = 5.3" G5, 5.5" S7 Edge
Waterproof = S7 Edge only
Wireless Fast QuickCharge = S7 Edge only

Overall, the S7 Edge will give you a larger screen, but basically same size phone as the G5, a massively larger battery on the S7 Edge over the G5, which is a huge deal, water resistant on the S7 Edge. Wireless quick charge on the S7 Edge, etc... I really wanted to like the G5, and I sort of like the design on it, but that 5.3" screen in still a large overall phone is a turnoff, as is the tiny 2,800mAh battery kind of crappy to me.

I've seen Vodafone thus far offering the Gear VR with new contracts/customer upgrades.

Looking at Samsung's website last night they are also offering qualifying customers to purchase the handset as a loan; the rep. APR is the same as Apple's Finance Program.

Yes, you CAN on the S7 - that's because Samsung have avoided Adoptable Storage.

However, for other phones which do choose to use it (in conjunction with Marshmallow), once you insert an SD card, it formats it and treats it specially as a "part" of the phone's storage, basically like intenal storage. Then if you take it out, it wipes it and you can't transfer that media elsewhere!

So that's why I think Samsung made the right decision tbh.

Thanks. I understand now. I've just listened to the android central podcast and it explained how it works. God I'm so out off the android loop. I had no idea about adoptable storage until today.:oops:

I'll think about the S7 edge. I like the new edge features. It's not as good as the note edge but it's actually giving me a bit of food for thought. I think if O2 offer the gear VR free with the pre-order that could push me to get one. I'd still keep my iPhone though.

I think the edge will set the bar for large phones. Massive battery, compact size (smaller than the note 5!), and beautiful design.

The edge features look more robust too. The best thing about the edge though still remains the screen itself.

As a iPhone user their is only one question left......touchwiz? It will either make or break an otherwise beautiful constructed device.

Really liking the improvements from the edge panel. Think that's a big step forward allowing 3rd party developers to take advantage of it.

Agreed

S7 edge looks good and if I was to have an extra phone it would be this as my media device for on the go as I do miss things like Mobdro and showbox....I miss that on android and I do miss certain widgets at times.

So I may just return to android for the S7 EDGE but apple and iPhone will still be my number 1 device for everyday stuff.

Mods can we add in the S7 edge in this topic title?

Well given it is only available in 32gb in most markets and does not fully support internal memory integration I would say it is a step back.
Where do you get this info from? Android 6.0 fully integrates the external SD card into internal memory and is the reason why SD card support returned to the S7. Samsung even stated this.
The limitations lie with the SD card, not the phone. If you buy a card the is less than UHS 3, then you won't be able to m3t certain read/write speeds or record in 4k.

I've never heard anyone say anything negative about holding their Edge model.

Actually when I look closely at mine the edge is smooth and rounded. My Edge model has been the best Galaxy I've had thus far and I've had everyone since the Galaxy line was introduced. I grip it securely and never have any issues. In fact the ergonomics are so good I never even thought about it.

Perhaps there's something wrong with yours.

Nope...I had the exact same impressions regarding the S6 edge...hated the ergonomics, found the side frame to be almost sharp in nature and not comfortable to hold.

I am hoping to check into that tomorrow, after all it is better for stores to have demo units when the preorder go live so I will check BB and carriers. I can walk to most of them in my area but that is unhealthy because of all the crazy drivers out here and also because of exhaust fumes. See, you don't have to concern yourself with that. :)
