Yeah, who needs those security updates quickly?? ;)

Aren't most Galaxy devices still on the September/October Security update? Are they addressing this with the S7 at all?

Because bezels can be functional. I know I use the top and bottom bezels to hold the phone to watch videos without getting my fat fingers on the screen. What do we gain from losing them? Aesthetics. Form over function.

That's a good point. I like big bezels when they serve a purpose. Like the perfect shape and size of the iPhone home button. Also, a bigger footprint can also mean a bigger battery. Sure, they can add weight and can be ugly on some occasions, but I don't find them obtrusive in any way.

Seriously, the form factor of the S7 brothers are fantastic:

^^^ Edge looks absolutely stunning in that video. It just pops. Really nice job by the designers there and looks super comfortable to hold. Only problem is, I would never be able to but a case on something that beautiful.

It's interesting that Samsung paved the way for large phones, but are now designing them so well that they're getting smaller.

S7 Edge is smaller than even their Note 5, and noticeably smaller than the 6P, the 6S+, and the new G5.

In fact, it's not even much bigger than the Nexus 5X. It's actually the same width and just about the same thickness. It's only slightly taller.

I have no doubt Apple will design something nice with the iPhone 7. But at this point in time, the S7 Edge really is setting the bar for large phones.

fwiw, Apple is the posterboy of form over function. Every year they put out a thinner phone with lousy battery life.

And people complain about that while also pushing for them to do it more. Pick a side, people.

Why irrational? All That wasted real estate is extremely poor design....

I told you how it isn't wasted for me.

Erica Griffin video hands on with the Galaxy S7 / Edge

This is great.

I'm really glad to see that a lot of early hands-on and previews are taking note of the more rounded design and feel of the S7 Edge. Which, I hope, translates to less palm touches and reasonably attainable one-handed use.

That is my biggest hurdle with the Edge, because otherwise, it's clearly the one to get between the two S7 sizes.

hmmmmmmmmm Ok, so I have found the official size of the S7 on EE's website:

http://shop.ee.co.uk/mobile-phones/...NDSET-Samsung_Galaxy_S7_p9926914836&WT.srch=1

And it is interesting, I got my digital calipers out and measured against my iPhone 6S which I have to use with the official Apple leather case as it's slippery, and the S7 is very close, it's slightly thinner width wise and is a tad longer, 1.8mm longer, it may be too big for me but I'll take a look.
The size of the device for a 5.1" screen I have to say is truly impressive especially considering the home button and fingerprint reader are on the face of the device.

Does anyone know if the camera is a Sony Exmoor or a Samsung Isocell?

Also interested in the camera sensor.

Interesting that EE listing it as Exynos 8890 inside. I don't flash roms so the SD dev scene doesn't bother me. I lost a lot of faith after the 805 in the Note 4 vs Exynos variant and the shambles that was the 810.

Yep.....my complaint with the S6 Edge Plus was the narrow sharp edges. But the S7 Edge seems to have alleviated that with the curved back. Samsung has really got the design down this year! Can't wait to get hands on one.

http://www.tmonews.com/2016/02/t-mobiles-askdes-unboxed-the-samsung-galaxy-s7-while-underwater/

Most likely going to preorder the s7 edge tomorrow.

We can debate it all we want, android vs android, or iphone vs galaxy; but it truly appears Samsung has finally made the android phone we always knew they could.

Design: The feel and premium construction is able to match or rival anyone on the market. I honestly think the note 5 is the best designed phone on the market, and the s7 looks to improve on that. Maybe you don't like glass, or prefer the larger bezels and home button of the iPhone....that is fine. But an unbiased observation would be that the design of these phones are second to know, internal bias aside.

Camera: Many argued the s6 was the best last year, and its only getting better.

Screen: The best in the business, internal preference aside.

Battery life: Looks to be class leading, we will see.

Operating System: Android M. Again, internal bias aside, the operating system is just as good as iOS. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Storage: 32 gbs for the US. I would prefer 64, but I have found 32 to be plenty, especially if you can expand it will a microSD card. SD cards are cheaper then internal storage, and great for handling the biggest consumer of space; media. If you need more then 32 gbs for apps, and you honestly use/play that many apps/games in a day...then this phone may not work for you.

Price: iPhone level pricing, with the specs and design to back it up. The s7/s7 edge gets cheaper when one looks at microsd pricing vs storage upgrades on the iPhone.

CPU: More powerful then the normal user will be able to utilize.

Graphics: Adreno/Exynos GPU combined with Vulcan API will allow these phones to do whatever the developers can throw at them. This is similar to was we see with Metal on iOS

Extras: Always on display, waterproofing, wireless charging, fast charging, samsung pay. Included VR if you order early enough.

What can you find wrong with it?

Touchwiz? Put on an alternative laucher, theme, etc....and don't forget about the extra features most people do enjoy, that touchwiz provides. I LOVE stock android, but touchwiz doesn't really affect me.

Updates? Yes....but people need to understand the nature of Android updates. Google releases the software, then the OEM do. Rather then judging how long it takes Samsung, after "Android X" is released, to push out the update to their phones, it should be judged on how long do the flagship Samsung phones go in between updates. For example, if Samsung pushes out the latest version of android to the Galaxy S6, edge, and note 5 now, as they are....we are looking at a 1 year gap of time for the s6 models, and less for the note 5. That is the equivalent or better then Apples release cycle. Apple's method is still superior; because Samsung phones may lag behind on security updates, etc. This can be blamed on the carriers as much as Samsung itself. But the big update is what the average consumer cares about, and Samsung is doing fine (recently) in this area. Samsung has done poor in the past, but they seem to be doing better recently.

Honestly, Samsung is big enough to say screw you to the carriers, and go the method Apple does with its iPhones and relationships with carriers.

Anyway, the purpose of this scattered, long-winded post is to try and communicate that the s7/s7 edge are exactly what the market needs; a android phone that surpasses the present iPhones, and should be able to go toe to toe with the next generation. Competition breeds innovation. This will only push apple and other OEMs to do better, and vice versa.

Yeah. A lot of places are saying that's no longer a problem. Great design if true. Can't wait to get hands on, too. Apparently this Friday they'll be in carrier stores. There's a Tmobile near me. :)

Will TMO allow JoD customers to pre-order? I'm willing to trade my Note 5 for S7 edge.

Yes. I am JOD, and plan on preordering tomorrow.

From what I understand, you can either call or go into a store to place the preorder. I don't think online works with JOD, and will instead place the phone on a normal EIP plan. So be sure to either call in or go to your local store.

In case anyone thought Samsung wasn't serious about getting rid of bloatware, this was just noticed:

NO TOUCHWIZ MUSIC OR VIDEO PLAYER FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY S7 AND S7 EDGE.

"Both these stock apps have been replaced with the Google Play Music and Google Play Movies apps. So if you run any audio file in your future Galaxy S7 device. It will automatically opens in the Google Play Music app or the one you selected as the third party music player. But there will be no TouchWiz official Music Player which we used to open since the start of the Samsung Galaxy S series."

Silver or gold, for me. Black is really nice, too.

Leaning towards silver based on pics/videos, but will know for sure once I see them in hand.
