I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge black version on a 2 year contract for €40,- euro a month.
Which gives me unlimited calling, unlimited texting, 4GB 225 mbit 4 G connection with a fee upfront of 49,- euro for the smartphone.

Totall price €1009 - €799 = 210

€8.75 a month. Not bad at all. Dutch provider Tele2 by the way.

I have the Note4 and Android 5.1.1, the fact that you noticed lag is not necessary related to Android but it can be the apps that you're using. I noticed lag on my phone too and did some reading. Some folks did experiments with the Facebook and messenger app. When you disable those 2 apps, the phone is noticeably faster. If you install them (but don't open them) the phone gets slower. Switching from camera to the photo apps with Facebook installed created a delay. I've heard there was a similar issue on iOS. From that point I did a shortcut to the Facebook web page and I left the apps disabled.

I noticed issues with other apps too. Lately, I also noticed issues with the Plex app. Even without using the app, it was draining my battery like crazy. I had to FORCE STOP the application each time I use it. I also experience the same thing with MIPC.

Each time I'm done using my phone I bring all the tasks and kill them.
It's really annoying to have to do micro-management like this.

What I dislike about my current phone and the reason I may switch back to iPhone is the time it takes to get things done.

Simple task: send a picture
Real actions: open camera, wait, take a picture, click to open photos, 2 sec wait, at that point I see the photo but If I try to send it, it will says it's too big. So I click to EDIT the picture and click SAVE, even without doing anything, the file gets smaller and can then share it with someone. If I choose to really edit the picture, like cropping or fine tune colours, then when I save, It gives me a duplicate picture (which get save in the Studio folder) because it doesn't want to overwrite the original. Now I send the new picture but I'm left with duplicates, that I need to manually delete. If you got photo backup turned on, the duplicates pictures are sent. It's a real mess.

On iOS, it's just take picture & send.

Simple task: read emails
Real actions : I need to have 2 apps, one for GMAIL,yahoo, msn the other one for Exchange.

I hope android 6 will fix the issues I'm having. If yes, I will probably get a S7EDGE (or Note6). Otherwise it will be an iPhone.
Interesting that I have none of these issues with the Edge+. I take a photo and send without issue all the time. I have zero lag after 6 months of use. I don't use Plex on my mobile devices, so can't comment there.

Soooo jealous. Here on a €40 a month price plan with Vodafone it's €499 for the edge and only 3gb data and unlimited texts and calls to vodafone and only 100 minutes calls to other networks ..... That's a 24 month contract.

We have seriously rubbish plans compared to you.

Why are Sprint, Verizon, and US Cellular specifically mentioned as getting the Snapdragon? I thought all US carriers were getting it?

I agree I would think all US carriers would get Snapdragon

I did not compile the list it was just the best one I could find :)

I contacted Samsung direct and they said look out for details on Mar 1st

I have none of those issues, but my guess is you are trying to send large pictures thru MMS. In that case the camera has a setting for that.

Someone pointed out that Gear VR updates require FB being enabled.

LOL. I don't use FB, never installed it and I get my updates to Gear VR apps without issue. Just cause FB owns Oculus means nothing. Gear VR does not require a FB account, but it does require an Oculus account if I recall correctly? But only because there are apps made by Oculus.

yes.. but the point with 'modern technology', is to have things done automatically. I know I can snap a very small picture and send it. The goal is to send any pictures and let the app adjust the media to the actions you wish to take. These problems don't exists on iOS or mail on OSX. When you includes pictures they are adjusted and you don't need to process them. I don't intend to use a lower camera settings just in case I may send the picture, the device should do the thinking and processing.

We don't have the same needs but this was just a small example of simplicity I expect in a device. I've been with two Android devices for 18 months and things like that that annoys me.

one things that is weird is that I went into a store to check out a TAB S2 and it was the same OS version that I currently have. I opened the camera and switch back & forth before the camera and photo application.. and the lag I have was not present on the tablet. I probably have another applications that slows down the phone.

So unless I do a factory reset and try applications one by one.. I'm stuck with the issue. Unless the next firmware update fix the issue.

do you have Marshmallow or 5.1? Note 4 is still on 5.1.1.. Also keep in my that the version of touchwiz & samsung apps are different between or two models. You can use themes and I don't.. so hard to compare them..

I played with a tab s2 that didn't have the lag and it was the same OS version. I may need to uninstall a view apps to see if one of them is slowing down things.

Don't know why your having issues with your note 4 but no problems with this on S6's and you are auto prompted for preferred size, are you using same email package for your 3 accounts

I'm surrounded every day by people who the vast majority of which have and use iPhones. Two and a half years ago less than half did, most with 4Ss (this was in the era of the 5S and 5C) , the others with Blackberrys and Androids. Here's what happened: The people with iPhones loved their phones. That's just the effect that iOS has. Because it's just so easy to adapt to, and it did everything that they wanted them to do so easily. I'll even go as far as to say that I prefer iOS over Android. The people who didn't have iPhones, although used to their own phones, envied the iPhone users, and got their own. That effect has pretty much spread over that time, and for a while now, everybody has an iPhone.
But I feel the craze is dying. I'm one in the crowd of iPhone users who has an Android phone. I have people admiring it, praising the screen, design and camera. I'm not the sort of guy who goes around saying, 'that has been available on Android phones for 2 years now', or 'I can't believe your phone only has 326ppi'. But I am getting people to realise that there are great Android phones, that they have abandoned the ugly design that they had with KitKat and lower, and that they are super well-built (or at least some are). I think that, in a matter of years, Android will become more mainstream. We've reached a period of time where Android users are no longer vilified, and we're not seen as people who just can't afford an iPhone.

Ummm I'd say this "Android users being vilified" thing is strictly an online forum phenomenon. The real issue is that iPhones only sold on AT&T for several years while Android got big on Verizon. Once iPhone got to Verizon, sales really exploded. Please learn to separate history from internet flame wars.

I was not interested in the edge one bit, seemed very gimmicky IMO. But after watching this, it actually seems useful and pretty cool;

The Tasks edge seems the most interesting. Being able to go straight into a specific mode in the camera and other apps will be very useful.

Samsung should have rid of the briefing home screen since Yahoo news feed appears on the edge now.

Yup me too. I'll be using some of the edge features. Primarily quick access to contacts and tasks. Maybe weather.

I love that you can make it transparent too. Overall it's very customizable which is a plus.

I'm planning on disabling the flipboard news feed left of the home screen too. No need for it. Never had it on with my s6 either.

LOL

Sorry to tell you, but the iPhone is the Bic Mac at McDonald's or the Honda Accord of smartphones, it's generic and boring. Everyone has one, it's mainly for grandparents and teenagers who are just getting their first smartphone, and want something dumbed-down and simple to use. Sure it has great design and high end build quality, but in 2016, all flagship phones do now a days. Samsung, LG, HTC, the Nexus 6P, they are all built great.

Oh you missed out 'Fischer Price':D

Guess you didn't read the article

Don't want to be carrier locked? Buy the phone unlocked.

Which article did I not read? Which point are you referring to? So I can buy an AT&T unlocked model straight from Samsung which will have all of their bands, work with wifi calling, be eligible for warranty support through AT&T? I think read somewhere that Samsung was coming up with a payment plan as well, similar to NEXT or Apple's program.

My thoughts on the edge.

Honestly I'm not that impressed. Sprint demo unit: for some reason opening apps, going to the home screen, opening task switcher my edge+ is actually faster in most cases. Not sure why but I won't dwell much on it. The battery is the best new feature for me. SD card is a nice addition too.

The screens vary as we know (my first edge+ had a worse screen color wise than my warranty replacement) the S7 edge looks warmer and overall less natural and balanced than my unit when looking at Google Maps imagery, for example. The bezels are slightly thinner. It feels nice in the hand but not Wow! The camera is obviously much better but is 4:3 at 12MP which I don't particularly care for. Launching the camera app was the one app where the S7 edge was faster than mine.

One thing they did that I really dislike is they increased the size (scaling) of the UI visual assets. What that basically means is that, like on the Note 4, they made the UI elements (buttons, search bars, etc.) larger despite the much higher resolution of the screen. On the Note5 and edge+ they shrunk the UI elements throughout apps and made the entire experience more "spacious", like on Google Maps, the home screen, search bars on the Web, etc. It was like keeping their size as was seen on the S6, but on a larger screen, instead of making them bigger to match the increase in screen size. Now they're back to being large like before and I don't like it. That is actually one of the reasons I went from the Note 4 to the edge+, it just made more design sense.

Those are my impressions. It's nice and I wasn't planning on getting one anyway. I'm less interested in these phones than in UHD screens on the next gen Note or edge+.

That sucks about the DPI, the Note 4/5 are incredibly functional because of how they scale the UI and apps. In particular GPS apps are much nicer. I hope they didn't make the UI scale as poorly as iOS.

It's not too bad, but is noticeably larger than the Note5 and edge+. It is more akin to the Note 4, but you should see it in person to decide how you feel about it.

So I noticed Sammy removed their stock music and video player. But you can still download them from their galaxy app store. I guess they really are trimming down TW after all. I'm guessing that renewed agreement with Google a great back had a lot to do with it.

You don't need to use FB or install it. It's already bloat in Samsung phones, even if you don't see the FB app icon. And if you use Package Disabler on FB, intial download of the Oculus app and updates of Oculus and it's apps will fail.
