To be honest i feel pretty similar to the thread starter. I think people with a touch of OCD or have an addictive personality can be mentally swamped by the iphone. I hate my iphone for dominating my life somedays. Actually i think the closest analogy i can draw is Golem from LOTR.....it's defo a love hate relationship i have with mine. Think i miss the freedom of a gadget free existence......im sure anti technology will be the new trend soon

I'm sure that 1,000 years ago people with severe OCD were completely dominated by their abacus's too. If a device is interfering with your life then either get rid of the device or get professional help.

I turned my wifi off the other day (i swear it gives my a head ache) determined to just relax for a bit. Lasted 5 minutes until i was flicking the switch back on. Laughed to myself, in a kind of **** maybe i'm too far gone kind of way.

How exactly did you upgrade in the first place? What did you pay/sign/etc. ?

I paid the early upgrade price of $499 :(

The 3GS is really fast and fun to use, but mine has problems.

I don't think it's your phone that has the problems, man. ;)

I think you should get rid of the iPhone though, I really do. I'm curious to see how long this phase will last. :p

See the thing is, I spend about $100 a month on the iPhone too, albeit in Canada. I don't make very make phone calls, nor do I receive very many. But I do use the data plan quite often to check email, and most of all, to stream BBC World Service Radio while driving to/from work (which is about an hour each way). So to me, is the $100 really worth it? Sort of. I definitely would miss the phone if I got rid of it, so I keep it. Then again, I am on a contract too, but it'd be cheaper to pay the contract cancellation penalities of ($400) if I really wanted.

I suggest that you try to go without your phone for a few days, and see if you miss it, and then decide accordingly. Also, I wouldn't get too obsessive about money... You only live once, and not everything should be boiled down to money alone... if you can afford it.

Daze

Take an vacation from tech, I do that sometimes only problem is I can only stay away from the computer, iPhone and the PS3 one day.

I'm fine with my addiction, at least I'm not using drugs, yet.

I can only last a few hours without access to the PC/Internet. I don't play my PS3 or Xbox 360 very often though...

LMAO! FYI: Technology eventually leads to drug use.

to the OP just keep returning it till your happy with your iphone... If you do end up getting rid of your iphone I think you'll be back within a month. Once you go iphone you can never go back!:D

its not 100 a month..

you would end up paying close to 60-65 a month for any phone your heart desires...so its more like 35-40 a month to have iphone...
But the total amount is still $100 per month, or $1,200 per year.

That does add up over time.

We need a name for iPhone addiction kinda like how Blackberry's is called crackberry.
crackphone?

iCrackPhone?

Just return the phone and cancel the contract. I'm not sure why your vallicating over this. You are unhappy with the phone and the cost. No need to over analyze this. It's pretty much cut and dry
Yes it does. :)

Get the Jitterbug!!
One time when I needed to get a repair on my cell phone, I decided to try out the Japanese equivalent of the Jitterbug.

The ease of use and simplicity was wonderful.

Chicks over the age of 60
Still chicks! :D

Amazing. I can't imagine getting to that point. If I did, I would get rid of the phone.

Snort! :)

If this is you biggest concern, you have more issues than the iphone. Secondly, from the way you talk, it sounds like you really can't afford an iphone. People who can afford an item don't worry about the monthly cost. Only people who can't afford something worry about getting their money's worth. This obsession of yours over a an electronic item is ridiculous, why post that your insane and obviously lonely? Just go get the damn dumb phone and go back to the ipod threads.

I can definitely afford the iPhone... that's not the problem. The problem is me... I get it. Maybe I just need a change of pace.

I think I realized what I need. I need an iPhone 3GS that has the same quality (or better) than my iPhone 3G and I'll be happy... I love the quality of my 3G (that I finally got after 4 replacements) and I wish my 3GS was the same or better than that. I think in order to end my "blues", I'll have to go back to the Apple Store, replace my 3GS with an iPhone that has the quality that I want.

I sort of feel like you need "luck" when buying Apple products now-a-days. I seem to remember a time when I could buy an Apple product and not have to return it at all and it would work for years and years. Apple's QC is definitely lacking.

IMHO, being able to afford an iPhone physically as in having the money and being able to afford an iPhone mentally are two different things.

For example, a fee of $100 per month may be easy to physically pay because you have the funds. However, paying $100 per month may not be mentally easy since it is a considerable amount of money.

Please get rid of your iPhone. That way maybe you'll stop cluttering the boards with useless threads. Even when you're on my ignore list your threads still show up. It's unfortunate.

Top 10 reasons why I miss *my* iPhone Hahaha

Honestly - I don't see how you could be laughing at that given your ping-pong behavior and self-admitted obsession.

The truth, I think - is you have no idea what you want or need and the iPhone provides a focal point for you to obsess over versus dealing with other situations that may or may not be in your life.

I'm no psychiatrist though and I've already said you should speak to someone qualified. And I don't mean an Apple Genius

Whether you keep the phone or you don't - seek a little help.

I can relate to this 100%.

But hey, we're all gonna die, and nothing matters in the end. There is no god! Hope that helps. :)

Aww, I almost cried... not.

My threads are not the problem. I'm pretty sure I'm in a public iPhone forum and I have every right to post threads as long as I'm not breaking the rules. Thanks for your comment though.

He would be less annoying if people stopped replying to the ridiculous threads he makes too. The issue he moans about is a basic question you'd ask yourself two years ago when buying the iPhone in the first place - do I really need a phone with mobile data or just an iPod with WiFi? Now two years and three phones later he is moaning about the cost?

How does a mentally handicapped thread like this get six pages of replies in a day?

Hey man... I love the iPhone... I just wish I could go to the Apple Store and buy one and not have to return it due to various quality issues... that's all. I was happy with my first iPod touch and I was happy with my first gen iPhone... then I got the 3G and had to return it 3 times before I got a good one.... now I'm on my 4th return of the iPhone 3GS.

Why don't you return the 3GS and use your 2G without a data plan?
