Well.. add this to your list

I had my 32gb 3GS black replaced with another and the replacement 32gb 3GS had a yellow screen (week 27) so the replacement to the replacement arrived this morning (week 26) and it was fine.. well actually a little more pink than yellow compared to the original but still different.

I agree that yellow is not right but its like comparing TV screens in a store - they will all look different if you cross compare.

A yellow-ish screen doesn't bother me one bit. My Apple Cinema Display has a warm look and I like the warmer color, but my iPhone is not uniform yellow... it goes from white at the top, to nasty nicotine yellow at the bottom. That's not normal.

So return it.

maybe I could enjoy my life a little more if I wasn't paying $100 a month for a phone
Translation: I can't afford it, but I like living beyond my means and pretending I can.
worry about having to use my iPhone to justify the price per month.
Translation: I REALLY can't afford it...
I feel as if I always need to be using it to get my money's worth out of it. If it's just sitting in my pocket, I feel like I'm just throwing money away each month.
Translation: I REALLY REALLY can't afford it...
but I'm starting to wonder if it's all worth it.
Translation: I wonder if it's worth it to a poor person.
After looking at the big picture...
Translation: After looking at my tiny wallet...
this phone seems to be slowly ruining my life.
Translation: My poor financial planning is really bothering me.
I've never worried so much over an electronic product before (especially not Apple) and I'm sure it's not good.
Translation: Geez, this is an expensive toy!

I miss the good ol' days of just carrying an iPod around to listen to music and watch an occasional video. It seems like back then, I used to do a lot more with my time (shoot photography, record skate videos, produce music, juggle, magic tricks, and other various fun activities). For some reason, I feel that if I take focus off the iPhone and do something else, then what the heck do I have the iPhone for?
Translation: I should talk to a therapist about my internet addiction.
One thing that would make me feel better about all of this is if we could actually pick our plans on the iPhone. If AT&T let us choose whether we want data and choose if we want 450 minutes. I don't even use 50 minutes in a month.
Translation: Who cares if AT&T is a 'business' and needs this 'money' crap to 'operate' and not go bankrupt.
Why isn't the iPhone plan customizable to *my needs* like every other phone?
Translation: F*** your profits, the universe revolves around TheSpaz
I think I've almost had it with the iPhone scene... but I don't know yet. I'd probably miss it as soon as I canceled my contract.
Translation: I'm completely and utterly addicted, even though I still can't afford it.

Conclusion: You really need a therapist and a financial adviser... too bad you can't afford either one!!

So then I got to thinking... maybe I could enjoy my life a little more if I wasn't paying $100 a month for a phone and instead I could be out doing stuff more productive than worry about having to use my iPhone to justify the price per month.

That you feel this was is the problem, not the phone itself. That said, it sounds like a cheap phone + ipod touch would serve you a lot better.

Anyone leave the iPhone for a Dumb-Phone + iPod touch?

I'm getting tired of paying for AT&T's service. When the 3rd gen iPod touch comes out, I might be getting that (faster processor, more RAM etc) and canceling my iPhone plan. I'll just pick up a stupid AT&T go-phone for short calls. I'd be paying a lot less and I really don't use the internet much while I'm away from home. I'd be more than fine with waiting until I get home to look at my favorite websites. I mean, by the time I get home at night... I've already looked at all the sites, so there's almost nothing to do on my computer when I get there.

Here's my usage:
Phone calls: 10 minutes out of 450 minutes and I have so much rollover minutes that it's not even funny
Internet: Check MacRumors, look at Apple news sites
Text messaging: I do a TON of text messaging because I have unlimited, but the iPod touch will have to get by on Email, Twitter and AIM.

So I'm asking this. Has anyone done something similar? Tired of the high iPhone prices? How have you been coping being iPhone-less? I'll still definitely need an iPod touch because I still think the touch screen iPod is nice, I just don't wanna pay for service anymore.

Anyone have advice for me?

Anyone have advice for me?

TheSpaz. With all due respect....

You've stated this before at least once.

No one is going to be able to give you advice on personal preference. That's like asking if you would prefer chocolate over vanilla. We have no idea what will work best for you. Only you do.

And even if we all said keep the iPhone - you might for a time and then gripe about it and eventually do what you wanted. Or if we said go for the iPod Touch and forget the iPhone, you'd either do that and gripe that you miss having only one device or whatever.

It's a lose-lose for anyone that response to actually give you any advice other than - DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.

And I mean this sincerely - good luck with whatever YOU decide and I hope you're happy with the decision.

Please don't leave the iPhone! Our source of entertainment here will be gone. :)

Seriously, you happen to post some good threads that are helpful, so we wouldn't want to lose that (and I'm sure there are some that won't agree, but who cares). Your thread on resetting all settings instead of restoring as a new phone has already proven to be a godsend to several users.

I recently sold my iPhone 2G (for $200) and am now using a cheap ($25) Nokia 6102i. Like you I rarely used the iPhone for calls, and only nominally for anything else. I am glad to be rid of the dumb $20/mo data plan. I personally don't really miss the iPhone that much, but everybody is different.

I know that MY decision is up to ME, but I was wondering if anyone else has switched from the amazing iPhone to a regular phone and an iPod touch.

@Samcraig: I wasn't trying to get people to make decisions for me or tell me what I want... I wanted to hear stories of other people who are thinking about what I'm thinking about or people who have actually done it. Did they do it? Did they regret it after? Stuff like that.

I've been considering it, but I don't know about SMS though... I use that A LOT and it's a pain to type text messages on other phones.

Unlock the iPhone and go with T-Mobile. I have unlimited text, data and 300 min with 5 faves for only $54 a month (with my 15% discount).

T-Mobile sucks big time in my area. We pretty much HAVE to use AT&T here. It's not like I can get an iPhone 3GS and use it on AT&T prepaid plan... I can't even do that on my iPhone 3G because when they scan the system, they just put it back to the iPhone plan.

I thought about carrying two devices ...

Smart Phone
iPod Touch

In fact have been doing so for some time.

I am currently with T-Mobile in a 5 Line Family Plan ( yeah we have five lines )

Our usage is mostly among each other and texting to others, we have a 700 min plan with T-Mobile and rarely use 250.

Switching to ATT, 5 line family plann, 450 mins, 1 iPhone, 4 others.

The bill with ATT will be less than T-Mobile

Our contract with T-Mobile is up at the end of next month.

I picked up the iPhone 3GS on an individual 450 plan last week and will switch to the 5 line Family Plan at ATT.

In the end we will be saving about $50/month.

But if it was just the individual plan ..... UGGH $75.00 month with 200 Text

While I agree with others that you always seem to be the one complaining, I'll add some input as well. I had an iPod touch and a cell phone before I finally switched to the iPhone. Carrying two devices around does become somewhat of a burden. It may be cheaper to have a regular phone alongside an iPod touch, but for me it was more a choice of convenience for the all-in-one option.

You IMed me and told me how you had finally cancelled your plan and were now using your touch.....like a month ago.

ah I'd stick with the iPhone if I were you, so long as you can afford it. From my experience, you think it'll be fine until your finally without it. It's like losing a child

I have $20 on Spaz starting a new thread 3 weeks after the new iPod Touch ... iTouch is out saying how he needs his iPhone back.

Well, I can't find the thread now, but I thought there was news that T-Mobile wasn't going to support the iPhone any more.

Edit: Okay, here it is:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/764213/

Notice it says "sidekick plans". I have a regular voice plan. I don't blame them. That plan is only for sidekick users, and it is using danger's servers. Good for T-Mobile for doing that. My works without a hitch. As soon as I got rid of my sidekick I switch my data plan, because back then no one knew how to use the sidekick plan with an iPhone.

i was in your position TWICE. i bought an iphone 2G... service here in NH was terrible. cancelled service in 45 days... Paid early termination fee. Fast forward like a year we get 3G in NH and "better overall network coverage" I sign up again. Service is terrible but the apps keep me for 6 months. I finally cancel my contract pay another early term fee and i wont buy another iPhone unless its on verizon.
