Not sure why you felt compelled to tell strangers you switched to Windows. You might as well make a sign and stand on the side of the road announcing you are now using Windows.
I notice many of your posts are negative towards users expressing opinions. I was interested to read OP, and can to some degree empathise. You don’t have to denigrate the comments each time a user wants to vent - its not a crime.

I think we would all have better sympathy for the OP if all possible options were exhausted before coming straight out and venting about how one thing doesn't work that causes them to abandon an entire OS.

Backups and restores could prevent this from happening and get them back to working status until a solution could be found.

Proper research into seeing if drivers were available for their peripherals in question could have been done.

Asking or researching if said peripherals were supported could have prevented this from happening.

There were so many proactive and preventative things that could have been done prior to upgrading that could have eliminated this entire situation, let alone this thread. None of that was done, so it is hard to sympathize with the OP when they didn't do the work to mitigate the problem or prevent the problem from occurring at all.

This really isn't an opinion being expressed; it is merely blaming everything around the person for the problem instead of blaming the lack of work that should have been done by the person; blaming everything but themselves.

Besides; if they think Monterey is buggy because a couple of peripherals don't work, they should have seen why there was nothing released between System Software 7.1.1 and System Software 7.5.

I'm on a mid-2011 13" MBA, and I'm about to pull the trigger on a MBP. I haven't been able to upgrade since Sierra, and when I was able to go to High Sierra, my Mac crashed spontaneously over anything and everything I did. An hour later thanks to a full Time Machine restore, I was back rock solid on Sierra, and have been ever since.
I have 2011 13” MBP

i never thought of it but my fan goes absolutely crazy randomly now. I’ve replaced the paste and still doing it. Wondering if going back to sierra might work.

When your fan goes crazy open the activity monitor app. Look at the CPU tab. Most likely there's a badly coded electron app such as Skype causing it. Skype makes my Mac go ballistic on every Skype upgrade. On the About Skype you can make the upgrade succeed.

Anyhow it's not your Mac. It's an app. Force quit it and watch your fan go down.

Over here
I wish the OP the best of luck. He'll need it.

I mean, even though this is an Apple-specific forum, there are more members using Windows than macOS. Whilst as expected there is a lot of negativity towards Windows, the masses appear to do just fine with it.

Finally, after 15 years of Mac, I have admitted defeat and realised that the reasons that I moved to Apple from Microsoft all those years ago, are no longer true. One of my main reasons was, the almost constant upgrades that Microsoft kept forcing on me, but now I find that Apple are doing the same. The other reason was the buggy nature of the upgrades that microsoft introduced causing frequent and often not easily solved issues. Now I find Apple all too frequently doing the same. The latest lovely little glitch to hit me is after ”upgrading” to Monterey, none of my three printers will work, and none of them have “monterey” drivers available. I have now bitten the bullet and purchased a Windows 10 machine so that I can at least print things out (all three printers are working fine in Windows 10). I am a straightforward user, I have zero interest in geekery or digging into the depths of the OS, I just want a reliable machine that works, day in, day out. I’m not even getting into the 32bit v 64bit thing and how that’s devastated my gaming options. The blunt fact is that the premium that I was happy to pay for my Apple iMac is no longer worth it. So after 15 years, I’m back with Microsoft. Poor Mr Jobs must be revolving at a very high speed. Whoever the current CEO of Apple is, he needs to ask himself some very hard searching questions, and the rest of us had better pray that he never moves into manufacturing aircraft.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Apple is a family built on friendship and loyalty.
The last time I checked, Apple is a trillion dollar company. If friendship, loyalty were founding pillars with Apple, they'd be more forgiving to let you repair your own apple devices, be more willing to let you load the apps you want.

I have no issues with Apple, their products are great quality, and wonderfully designed, but I'm under no pretense that they are a business beholden to their owners - that's fine, and they make some fabulous products but a family - no.

My loyalty does not extend to a trillion dollar company who's main focus is to maximize profits for their owners (the stock holders). Phones, computers, tablets - they're tools to do something and my loyalty only extends to the point where a given product meets my needs for the budget I have set forth. I won't buy a Mac or an iPhone just because there's a fruit logo on the back, but rather how well does it meet my needs.

I've stayed out of this thread, but I don't get why people join an apple fan site only to say they're leaving because apple is a horrible company. Seems the OP is more interested in riling others up rather then honestly wanting to discuss apple products ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So cringeworthy.

I think what the poster your quoted is trying to say is that faith in a corporation doesn’t come out of nowhere. People believe in religions without seeing a proof because they are thought to believe when they grew up. They trust their spouses because they are in love and want to believe that it is mutual.

I trust a company because they earned it by offering me a significantly better user experience for over 10 years. It’s not a religion or life partner issue, but just a purchasing decision. If one day I feel like the trust is not there any more, I can sell my stuff and move on.

That’s really all there is to it.

I wish people wouldn't bash the OP for a post like this.

We are in the "Alternatives to Mac Hardware" area of the forum.

This sort of post is perfectly in bounds here and some of us do actually enjoy reading the stories of the comings/goings.
THANK YOU!
i was think the same a couple days ago
and even stuck out my neck and defended the OP.
this is still a forum for rants and displeasurements!

THANK YOU!

Here's my $.02 - first the OP joined and posted this thread in the Mac forum - he didn't seem too interested in discussing alternatives.

My sentiment is the same, why join an apple fan site just to complain. The thread was moved to the alternatives, but the fact remains he seemed more interested in not discussing alternatives to Macs and rather just bashing Apple. I think its fair to have a dialog on Apple's short comings but it seems he just came here to say goodbye even though he wasn't a member here.

i didn't really look into that aspect, and I know how the OP feels.
and was wondering if this tread was moved.

what baffles me about these forums since the 2010's
are the ones who are in dire need of help, post their problem
then reply rudely to those trying to help,
or never return a progress report of their situation.

off topic, I can't do windows 11 anymore
maybe 10 is embedded in my feeble brain.

I know how the OP feels.
I understand and I've been critical of Apple at times

I personally, have no issues with people complaining or criticizing apple, but I do wonder about a person who decides to sign up just to say he's leaving due to x, y, z. If you feel the need to abandon apple, why sign up to a fan site that you have no track record/history, no relationships, just to say you're leaving?

Also consider that MR being a fan site and the OP choosing to post in the mac forums (initially pre-move) - why wouldn't the responses be overly negative? He's basically poking the bear.

Think about it on the flip side - someone joins Windows Central and their first post is saying that he's leaving the PC for the Mac because windows is a buggy mess, because MS is forcing upgrades on us all the time, because he spent a lot of money and its not working as he expected - Don't you think the folks over there would respond rather negatively to that person?

off topic, I can't do windows 11 anymore
I'm still happy with windows 11, though admittedly, i don't push my computers terribly hard. i play games, use office apps and do browser stuff. My kids use chrome and google classrooms for their school work and windows 11 has been no different then windows 10. I know a lot of people have had issues, I'm not marginalizing those issues but rather stating my personal experience.

Mike:

Thanks for the background info re: the thread being moved... and thanks for your perspective... that was the gist of my original post in this thread ("Hey! Look at me!"). Appreciate a mod's perspective.

Clearly this was a "drive by"... OP created an account just to post this, posted it in the Mac forum, has six total posts all in this thread, and never bothered to return... the "he's basically poking the bear" comment was spot on... good riddance to him, and best of luck with his OS of choice...

Totally agree.
Everyone trying to micro analyze the intentions of the poster - just don't.
Simply move along and don't worry about the topic if it's not your cup of tea.

The pile on nature of some threads is really off putting

...maybe others are also feeling somewhat miffed as well?

No, not really!

But then I use Windows, WatchOS, iOS, and iPadOS, and not (yet) MacOS. I'm thinking of adding Mac but I'm not so simplistic as to think that in this age of the '20s, that I would just pick one computing platform to marry and go off on a honeymoon with, then be monogamous with it as my "one true love", making babies and grandkids and having a life of matrimonial bliss with it.

No, no, my house is basically "Casa la Computing Commune". I have the aforementioned OSs; some are better for gaming, others are better for getting directions in the car. Plus a whole bunch of Android and Linux children wandering and spilling milk or finger-painting the walls all over the house. Washer & Dryer buzzing my watch, microwave, car, garage door opener, NAS, irrigation system that automatically keeps the grass and flowers from drying out, television, music keyboard, electronic drum kit, control surfaces, computers, watches, tablets, and phones.

Not every device will be perfect, and no single device will become your soulmate. Your perspective is off-kilter, and I think maybe you just need a break to reset your thinking and expectations in life.

One thing is certain: if you're looking for monogamy from your technology, you're way off base, and instead you might be better to consider a human for that role. Or maybe a dog; they're quite loyal too.

Use them both and neither are perfect but both are actually quite good. My W10 workstation is an absolute beast and my M1 Mini 16GB model is quite a great office machine as well. That said I upgraded to Monterey on day 1 and it has a few bugs but they will get ironed out very soon.
