Well, they are putting so much tech on top of the phone that you simply can't have a notch. A fully utilized forehead with tech is more useful than a very tiny bit of extra screen real estate in my opinion. See the cutout for sensors below:

pixel_4_screen_protector_leak_1.jpg

Even if they tried to decrease the space with sensors, even with the best you could do it for a notch, the notch "ears" in that case would be so small that it would look very stupid, and it'd be better to just leave the forehead.

Really, you wouldn't even get any extra screen real estate with a notch in this phone. The screen is 19:9 ratio, which is the same as the S10 series. So, with a notch, the phone wouldn't be as tall, but then there would be a part of the screen missing due to the cut out or notch.

Honestly, this is much better, as far as usability. It is asymmetrical, which will bother people and garner complaints that it isn't modern, but in the end it's more screen real estate than you get with the S10 -- or Pixel 3 XL.

Would prefer the lack of that monster forehead but I have come to grips that the Pixel line will never be a design of art as comparison to the OP7 or other devices.

Doesnt matter to me as long as that camera is still the best in the game then I am in and will deal with the design flaws like I do with the Pixel 3xl

I'm sure the 855 with Android Q & more ram will make for a pretty smooth experience. But it would be nice to have a newer chip inside a flagship Pixel, instead of an end of life chip.

No doubt the Galaxy S11 will get the 865 in March, so there can't be a ton of phones that will get the 855 Plus.

Google confirms Pixel 4 face unlock and air gestures in teaser video

Other phones require you to lift the device all the way up, pose in a certain way, wait for it to unlock, and then swipe to get to the homescreen. Pixel 4 does all of that in a much more streamlined way. As you reach for Pixel 4, Soli proactively turns on the face unlock sensors, recognizing that you may want to unlock your phone. If the face unlock sensors and algorithms recognize you, the phone will open as you pick it up, all in one motion. Better yet, face unlock works in almost any orientation—even if you're holding it upside down—and you can use it for secure payments and app authentication too.

My first question on this new Sonar thing, how does it effect battery life? It looks sorta cool, not sure how much I'd use it? Maybe rarely, or always, no idea without seeing it live, but it's not something I've dreamed of wanting needing.

Face ID sounds good and bad. I have never owned a phone with it.

Overall my thoughts are, hmmm ok.

I've never had a face ID phone but curious does that allow you to read websites and face ID will follow your eyes not having to touch the phone so the screen doesn't time out?

Right now on my pixel phones I have it set to 1 minute display timeout even if I'm reading a website if I don't touch the phone the screen will turn off after 1 minute but does face ID stop that it just knows you're looking at the phone and will keep the screen on as long as you're looking at it?

Samsung did this a few years ago, where the screen could stay on, scroll down or up based on your eye movement. Can't remember if it was the S6 or S7. It was gimmicky at the time and didn't work well for me.

I *think* FaceID on iPhones pays attention to your face and will allow the screen to remain on if it detects you are paying attention?

I really hope Google delivers with the Pixel 4. This could be a really killer feature for things like cooking. It would be so awesome to be covered in flour or eggs, etc., and just wave my hand to scroll through recipe pages.

iPhone has this feature on their face ID and with the 4/4 XL having soli I'd say it will definitely have it.

Is the Pixel 4 out yet? Asking for a friend.

No. Launch is not expected until October.

Google has decided to buck the trend of trying to hide everything until a keynote. They are doing small releases of details every so often. It's the same thing you see auto manufacturers do with their new models.

From what I've seen I really like what they are doing with the Pixel 4. The notched screens don't bother me except that I don't see the point. I really like the design of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S9. Both have just enough bezel to allow for sensors/speaker and space for a case to grip around.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10 looks great but I don't know how someone can get a screen protector and a case on it at the same time.

For me, a smartphone has to be able to accept both a Whitestone Dome screen protector and a Speck Presidio Grip case or it is a non-starter.

Oh it isn't? That explains why I couldn't find it on the Google Store earlier. I called Google too and every time I said"Pixel 4" they responded with "for who?" and I said "me" and we literally went in circles for 20 minutes.

So, is anyone genuinely interested in this phone? I'm actually a bit reserved with this one. Seriously looks like an iPhone 11 render clone :(

Can't really see spending 1100 bucks on this thing o_O

So far leaks are leaving me just meh

In my opinion the iPhone 11 looks like a Pixel 4 clone. At least stock Android Q is great, can't say that about the god awful horrific iOS .

They all look the same anymore and I can't tell em apart lol o_O:confused: :p

I agree on the phone designs themselves, both the i11 and p4 sure look similar. But the software, wow, that's like comparing the Wright Brothers first plane ( iOS ) to a F22 Raptor ( stock Android )

iOS and macOS feels completely counterintuitive and backwards for me. I can kind of find my way around but it's like cutting your hair with a full butter knife. I don't know why I can't seem to get into it

Definitely. It might look similar on the back because of the camera array but that's as far as the similarities end.

Android Q makes a big difference and is miles ahead of iOS. I still have an iPad and I hate what they've done to the picture gallery in iOS 13. It's ridiculous and don't want a phone with that kind of unorganised mess.

I'm really curious about this statement. What makes stock Android so much better/more advanced than iOS?

I flirted with a Pixel 3XL earlier this year, and I thought it was pretty decent overall, but I didn't necessarily feel either OS was so much better than the other. So Im definitely interested to learn more about this before the next round of new flagships are released this fall.
