4K leaks! Why is it always the Pixel that has these 'leaks' every year? I used to be sceptical about claims that they're controlled leaks but these days I'm starting to believe this conspiracy.

+1, I was hoping they'd get rid of it this year but wow, hugely disappointed. Even the back camera bump - what are they playing at - it looks like the iPhone 11 series! They seriously need to sack their designs team and bring in some fresh, modern, sleek designs.
And the iPhone 11 series camera bump may be inspired by a Huawei Android phone which is probably the inspiration for Google's Pixel 4 too as Huawei is a Google Android and former smartphone design partner.

The difference might be Huawei telling Google to go ahead and borrow their multi-lens enclosure/bump design for the Pixel 4 while Apple felt there was no need to ask as Huawei borrows from Apple too.

Lol, this is what happens when they lack innovation and begin copying and reinforcing off each other.

You do realise there's only a certain amount of ways to arrange a camera set up? Phones are bound to look similar. Plus the iPhone 11 lenses don't blend in half as good the Pixel 4.
Of course - most phones look similar these days, especially from the front. My point was that there are other (better) ways of designing the camera module. I agree, it's not as bad as the monstrocity on the iPhone 11 Pro.

So I preordered an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Here's my thinking...I was originally planning on waiting until closer to Pixel 4 announcement time so I could return the iPhone if I liked what I saw, but I've been wanting to give iOS a shot for a while and I know Pixel prices will fall in 2-3 months after release. So, I'm going to give the iPhone a shot until Pixel prices fall to $200 below retail. Then I'll make a decision if I want to keep the iPhone or go back to Android. The good thing about iPhones is that while their retail is ridiculous, their resale is outstanding. I can probably sell the iphone on Swappa in 3-4 months for $100 cheaper than retail cost. That cant be said about any Android phones unfortunately.

same here, for the most part. I pre-ordered the 11 Pro which I'll use alongside my 3a. I do want a 4 XL but won't get it until they do their standard $200 off thing, maybe around black friday? Then I'll evaluate where the Pro stands in the mix... we'll see!

Yep, exactly my thinking. For anyone curious, I'll report back here on my Pro Max findings after spending the last 3-4 years on Android and being mostly a Pixel/Android user.

Lol. We are partners in crime. I'm the same. Long time android owner for the past 4-5 years. The Midnight Green iPhone 11 Pro Max is the first iPhone in years that's good enough for me.

I considered waiting for the Pixel 4 but this morning I found out that it doesn't have 4k recording at 60fps. I'm not paying top dollars for a flagship phone that doesn't have that capability going into 2020.

This year Apple has really gone for it with the cameras. Hardware-wise nothing has left undesired as 4k at 60fps and dynamic HDR for every camera AND recording with all four cameras at the sametime, surpass my expectations by a long shot. The A13 bionic has some serious muscle to be able to pull that off.

However I will still use Google Photos and Assistant as I don't like Siri or Apple Photos.

Lastly, as you said, iPhones have such good resale value that I can swap for the latest pixel without losing any money.

I missed that confirmation from Google. Where did you find it?
No official confirmation. Just read it in a Vietnamese review. However it could be a setting that wasn't unlocked in the software on their handset. Wait until October for confirmation.

Either way its a big selling point for a phone to be able to shoot in max resolution and framerate regardless of which of the 4 cameras are used.

Nice. I like that face retouch can be toggled.

I was successful in getting a Pro Max in Green for launch day but will anxiously be watching the Pixel 4 pricing and also interested to see how the camera on the Pro works as it is designed and set up to be a beast!

I sure hope the Pixel 4 has a pro mode. And while I understand people wanting 4K 60fps, they really need get their sound quality on par with Apple & Samsung as a more pressing priority.

Yeah, the Pixel 4XL was the only phone I was even mildly considering upgrading to this year but it that spec proves true, it’s a deal breaker for me. As great as the Pixel camera is for stills, it’s already substandard compared to Apple and Samsung and not added 4K 60 FPS video capabilities means I’m not buying a Pixel 4 XL.

This year is truly going to be a first for me...no new tech toys to speak of. First year ever I’m not upgrading my iPhone and first generation of Google phones I won’t be test driving either since the Nexus S.

I will still be king of still. Top Shot is one feature I would have loved to have. "Motion photography" will be super cool too.

What I respect most about Google is that usually their older phones get new camera eatures. With Apple it's the opposite. It's a disgrace that the Xs models aren't getting night mode as a software update.

I will end up with a Pixel 4. But for the 2 and 3, I waited until Christmas (for the 2) and then spring (for the 3) and bought them then.
If there is one phone it is pointless paying release prices for, it's the Pixels.
They ALWAYS reduce, and better offers are to be had just months after release.

I've ordered an iPhone 11 Pro and will likely hold onto it until the Pixel 4 gets a sizeable price drop next year.

Pointless is a bit harsh. If there's a phone I really want, I'm not going to miss out on it for several months just to (probably) save a couple hundred.

I'd also argue that it's best to wait on Pixels because they always have software or hardware issues at launch. Google is still new at making phones and it shows. They're usually in good shape by month 3 or 4 but I certainly dont want the first batch of devices.

Well I guess it depends how much disposable income you've got. If money isn't an option then crack on.
It should be clear that this is just my opinion.
I'm more about getting value for money at the moment but you might not be.
