I just tried and found the .apk from XDA but it won't install. I have unknown sources all allowed from my browser, etc. Curious to see if anyone has got this to work.

Same with me. I downloaded the Pixel wallpapers 19 .apk, and but it would not install. I could get it starting to install, but then at the end says App not installed.

Then I tried that Slicer .apk thing, took awhile to get one that would install, it allows you to set very specific settings for the wallpaper, but I couldn't get the location set, which is the one you need for the orange color. I believe because I don't have that special wallpepr .apk installed.

Sure am

Get this though. I turned off iMessage and my sim is still in my iPhone and an iPhone user said his iPhone is still trying to send me iMessages!

Shows that it’s not an Android issue at all

Do you also have iMessage turned on somewhere else? like an iPad or Mac computer? make sure to turn it off everywhere or at least remove your phone number from iMessage there in settings and have it default to your email address.

and then use the de-register site no matter what... simply turning off iMessage doesn't work all the time (and neither does the website, but that's another story for another day...)

Yeah I made that mistake once where I had it still active on my iPad. Not this time.

I "think" everything is working. But this is enough to make me want to curb stomp Tim Apple.

no joke, so damn frustrating. I had to change phone numbers back when I switched to the Galaxy S6 at launch. My phone number got hung up in iMessage pergatory even though I did everything correctly on my end (and all trouble shooting tips did not help). That was before they came out with the de-registering website. I could not get group texts with iPhone users to save my life. Apple blamed Verizon and Verizon blamed Apple even though I knew it was Apple and how they get a stranglehold on your phone number. Then they told me to wait 45 days to get it to clear out of the system and it'll start working. That didn't work. I ended up getting a new number because it was such a PITA.

I'm tempted to buy a Pixel 4 or Pixel 3a as a second phone. Although my iPhone 11 Pro Max is superb, the camera isn't as usable as the one on my Pixel 2 XL.

I miss:

1. One handed activation of the camera by double pressing a volume button.
2. Portrait mode that works on any object and at almost any distance.
3. Fast shutter speed that lends itself to shooting toddlers who are rarely still for more than a split second.

:(

It's interesting you say that. As much as the iPhone 11 Pro camera has improved, those 3 bullet points are valid. The Pixel still performs the best with moving objects, which is a huge gripe of mine on other devices.

I have two kids under the age of five. With the Pixel 2 I should just shoot from the hip in full faith that the photos would look stellar. I also prefer Google’s post processing as it gives the photos a subtle pop.

With the 11 Pro, almost any movement results in a blurry photo. Portrait mode almost only works from an 8 feet distance, limiting its use. With the pixel 2 I could shoot portrait images of objects or people from almost any distance.

Actually, I am taking fewer photographs now then I did with my Pixel.

I will buy a used Pixel 3 or 3a when prices fall to £100. Either will be used as a point and shoot for kids birthday parties, holidays and other photography occasions.

Absolutely agree 100%. I use an iPhone xs as my main phone but carry my pixel 3, which I bought very cheap on eBay, to use as my main camera. The iPhone camera seems to use a slower shutter speed and taking photos of my 21 month year old are almost always blurry as a result. Pixel photos are superb every time.

If you already carry an iPhone 11 Pro but intend to buy a Pixel 3/3a purely for photographing kids parties etc you’d be better served spending that money on a proper point and shoot camera.

As good as the Pixel phones are you’ll get a better picture with a proper camera, especially in challenging lighting conditions or with moving objects.

One question though. Could you take a picture in regular mode on the iPhone 11 Pro and then blur the background on the Google Photos app? I'm not sure if it works that way or not.

Edit. You can't. That's too bad because I was thinking you could use deep fusion and then add blur later on. Maybe there's an iOS app that can do that?

I own a Lumix LX3, Fujifilm X10 and also own a DSLR. Recently I have shoot with the latter and when the images are good, they are simply stunning.

Portability is an issue. This isn't the case with the compact cameras. However, smartphones have better post-image processing, background upload to Google photos, faster shutter speeds, can be used one handed, have a high definition viewfinders and on-device image processing.

The point and shoots are only better if I have time to "Do photography" e.g objects are still/posing and there's time to preview images for a second, check the output and maybe change shooting mode.

Video is the iPhone's biggest strength and the ability to crop, add filters to and colour correct videos on the device, puts it in a league above the pixel phones.

Do you know of any really good point and shoot cameras that you can recommend?

I’m a hobbyist landscape photographer so if I’m out my d850 is my tool of choice, for everything else I’m happy with my iPhone 11 Pro.

I have a Canon PowerShot SX740 HS too but the pics I get from it are no better than my iPhone so it’s now relegated to the drawer.

I don't use compacts for video but I do for stills. While Pixels and other phones have apertures of around 1.7, suggesting they'd be good in low light, they absolutely cannot compare in quality for stills against the Canon G5X mark 1 & 2 or the Canon G7X mark 2 & 3 with a 1.8-2.8 aperture.

I know we have night mode on phones, but these Canons take great pics in low light without having to hold steady for a few seconds. And the burst mode once you've locked focus is superb. I sacrifice optical zoom (5x) for the 1" sensor and bright lens.

But if you prefer first class auto focus over the bright lens, the Sony RX100 vii with it's 24-200mm lens is fantastic. All very pocketable.

THIS!! Totally agree. My Pixel 2 XL is still outperforming virtually every other phone my friends/family have.

The portrait mode on Pixels is by far and away better than anything else I've ever used.

iPhones portrait mode is a nightmare.

Two snaps from the weekend using portrait mode. Just point and shoot. No fiddling.

Just ordered one, should be here tomorrow. If the S20 trade in or bonuses disappoint, I'll keep it. Otherwise, I'll preorder the S20 and send it right back.
