@GrumpyMom been thinking similarly, well kind of. Probably sitting the 5 out. Possibly grab a 4a, replace my 2 XL with it (or with my 4 XL) and use the 4a to replace my main line and drop the major carriers and go with fi. Can't see overpaying the carriers since most calls are just basically spam or scam calls any more anyway. Heck, I'm to the point of if a 4g nexus tablet existed, I'd probably throw my phone line away...

Also been thinking about ditching Android, well the big G's version of it and shove graphineOS ona couple devices.

I almost bought a pine phone earlier this month but didn't want to run my info through PayPal.

Well after skimming reviews and owner comments on the different Chinese made gaming phones I think I’ll rule them out as a QC and customer support nightmare, at least for US consumers. Best to stick with Samsung’s and Pixels for my Android fix with a possible second of LG and OnePlus and Moto.

It was fun to look at them.

To be fair, if you're worried about quality control Google aren't exactly the gold standard.

Ouch! Yeah Pixels have QC issues but I’ve had positive experience with their customer service as of 2 years ago.

I've noticed a lot of radio issues with Google phones for some reason. I remember back in the day of flashing new basebands to try to get better signal.

Even my 2 XLs radios seem to be acting goofy lately, not sure if it's dropping to a worse tower or what. 🤨

I don't know what Google is doing either. And I don't know why the media is so fascinated with Pixel phones. I mean... I know know it's the platform owner's hardware... but it's barely a blip in the grand scheme of things.

There are 1.3 billion smartphones sold every year... but Google is lucky to sell 1 million units a year.

That's 0.08% market share for Pixel phones.

Oh well... it keeps the bloggers and Youtubers busy... :p

There, fixed it for you you had one to many zeros on that number.

Has the screen size been revealed? I'm more interested in the P4a but I have $2K credit via the Google Store w/24 months 0% finance. My reason for looking at the P5 is one more OS update vs the P4a since it will ship with Android 11. As far as 5G goes, I have no need for it and Mint Mobile which is my carrier doesn't support it.

Mint Mobile started offering 5G at no additional cost. I get it on my unlocked Motorola Edge 5G.

Well, i'll be damned. Thanks for that info, I wasn't aware of that until you mentioned it. I checked their website and sure enough they DO offer it free of charge !

The problem for me is I don't use a ton of data, maybe 500 MB in a month if that. The only thing I do is occasionally stream music and 4GLTE easily handles that.

Surprised nobody is talking about the Pixel 5 given the recent leaked photos and bumped up release date. Sounds like It'll be between $650-$699 and the phone pre-orders end of this month.

Honestly, thats probably a decent price point for this phone and if it gets the usualy $100-$150 discount on Black Friday, it'll be a great deal.

I read some stuff this morning, don't have the link, that it's now more confusing, it's called the Pixel 5S, and that the Pixel 4a 5G is top phone, and the 5S is the medium phone.

Google entering back into the mid-range market (and staying there) is going to be the best decision they’ve made under the Pixel line. They definitely bit off more than they could chew in the flagship tier.

I dont think thats the case. I read their might be two Pixel 5 models, one without 5G (Pixel 5) and one with 5G (Pixel 5s).

They didn't. They just went about things the wrong way & never listened to customers.
I mean, that's biting off more than you can chew, no? Simply put, the quality of the flagship level devices they have tried to make are not on the same level of quality as other manufacturers making competing flagship products, but at comparable prices.

No. Google just haven't taken it very seriously, like its a side project they can't be arsed with.

I'm kinda surprised it wasn't released already with Android 11 (googleOS?). I suppose 699 is not too bad, it'd certainly make the 5 a bit more tempting. I'm still not really interested in 5g.

Nexus and Pixel phones have always been an October release or early November release I don't think ever in September.

But this year maybe the first I think end of September is the rumor.

But I'm still totally confused as to what we're getting today's rumors about this Pixel 5S or sort of confusing to me just don't know which way Google is truly going with this?

Lately new Android OS releases are Aug / Sept, and new Pixel phones releases Oct / Nov.

Back when it was the Nexus line, yes they'd release both the new Android OS and new Nexus phone together in November.

yeah...have to agree, Even after the brought on a lot of the smartphone design team from HTC...they still have no sense of direction for the smartphone line up. Then as you said earlier...they didn't listen to their customers.

To me, biting off more than you can chew would be a small company aiming too high. But Google are massive and seemingly approached the Pixel line half cocked.

That's not to say Pixels aren't good phones, Google just can't decide on a clear path with them.

Great points for sure. Definitely think my expression was wrong initially. Hopefully they are starting to figure things out with the 4a onward. They definitely have appeal to a big group of Android users if they can get it right.
