Next year's Pixel 6 will more likely go back to a flagship processor but it won't be from Qualcomm but Samsung with the Exynos, which finally will use the same cores as the Snapdragon 875 but with a Mali gpu.

Great thing is that it will be cheaper than what Qualcomm currently charging for it's Snapdragon SOC's & possibly faster to with some Samsung wizardry, which also means Qualcomm will have to start lowering it prices if it want to be competitive.

I agree. No video will top iPhone. Samsung is just throwing more tech at it in an attempt to with its gimicky 8k but, even that still isn't as good IMO.

I can't see an iPhone camera being better than Pixel. Even the 4 was better than the 11 Pro in my opinion although the "versatility" card will always get played.

The fact the Pixel has always done portrait mode better with one lens than any phone with 2, or 3, or 4 speaks volumes.

Portrait mode on Pixel's seems nearly impossible to best.

Agreed. That being said, if the Pro models do include a LIDAR sensor as rumored, that could potentially improve depth recognition dramatically, couldn’t it, and this yield some far more accurate portrait results?

Will certainly be interesting to see the camera shootouts in the coming weeks.

This is the first I’ve heard of this...have a link to anything with more detail?

IIRC, the rumor was that Google was actually working on their own chips, a la Apple, and that we might see their first attempts in some of their hardware next year.

Sort of off topic, but for the average consumer, Joe Blow, non techie smartphone buyer. Which that crowd probably makes up 95% of the sales, not us [H]ard nerds here.

They don't care or even know about specs, heck they don't even know which OS version they're on, and of course don't know about the processor or RAM, or any of that. But my question or point is, since majority of people, at least here in the US still get their smartphone through the carrier on some type of payment plan, most are not paying outright in full cash for their phone, they put it on their monthly phone bill. So I bet people don't even know the full price of a high end smartphone today. If you told them their new Samsung Galaxy or iPhone 12 was $1,000+ they'd probably **** and be shocked to hear that. They just see that it costs $35/Month, and that's all they know.

So a Pixel 5 for $700 or an iPhone 12 Pro / Note 20 Ultra for $1100, I don't think registers in their minds. The average consumer just buys what they want on the monthly payment plan through the carrier. Only the very small % of people that buy their phones outright actually look and care about the total price.

This exactly. It's why even Apple is now advertising the prices of their iPhones (and other devices) with the monthly payment price first on their website. It's all about perspective. If a customer can walk into a carrier store or an Apple Store and have the ability to purchase an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S or Note device for $XX/month, devices that generally own all of the mindshare here in the US, that's an easy decision in their eyes.

If the average person sees a monthly payment and doesn't add up the monthly and term to a final amount, they are stupid and probably in debt. And yeah, that probably does equal the average american consumer. Which is sad.

Agree but they would rather pay monthly a small amount than a one time big amount. I hate payments for phones for 2 years and why I like the mid range specs so i can just pay for it once.

Im curious enough about this device to give it a go come Black Friday, assuming the usual discounts happen. Im not worried about performance but I am a little worried about going back to a small screen. I was also hoping to go back to QHD, but it seems like every phone manufacturer is opting for lower res and higher refresh which im fine with. Personally, I thought the QHD and 90hz on the 4XL was a perfect combo. 60 to 90 Hz is a huge difference, while 90 to 120 isnt that much better.

There is an leaked benchmark using the lesser midrange 5nm Exynos 1080 which is quicker than the current Snapdragon 865+, the Flagship Exynos will be called 2100 and is reported to be quicker than the Snapdragon 875, this is what you see in the Pixel 6 next year. :)

That doesn't apply to everyone as I have no debt other than my utility bills, not even car payments. I do have the money to buy any Google phone with cash but prefer to use Google's 24 month 0% financing.

I thought it was obvious he was talking about people who just blindly sign contracts and end up paying far more than they should.

True.... for example the Samsung A71 is $600 from TMobile but on Amazon it is $499 for the US version. Yes thats a chunk and many people want to part with that in small chunks but its $100 cheaper the Amazon way.

You misunderstood what I'm saying. I'm not saying people that want monthly payments are all in debt. I'm saying people that don't calculate the monthly payments to see the total cost of what they're paying are not smart and bad with finances. The "only this much a month" tactic is what car salesmen use to lure people in because the figures and increases look so much smaller.

Oh wow, were do you live, crazy that the phone is arriving tomorrow and the reviews aren't even out yet :/ , supposedly the embargo will be lifted tomorrow... haha what are you afraid of google?

I'm in the UK, my wife ordered right away on the 30th September. Quite a few people have had theirs shipped as well in the UK from the Google store.
