All of this confusion in the the Pixel line up is making me lean towards the Z Fold 2 or Surface Duo or even the Note 20 as my next smartphone purchase. Its a shame really...the Pixel 4XL has been my favorite Android phone.

Completely forgot about the Surface Duo...definitely want to keep my eye on that one as well.

Wonder if pixel 5 will have 120hz? I know they had battery life issues on the 4 so be interesting if they add it. I imagine they will given they currently have 90hz.

You would expect they would add ultra wide and better zoom. Maybe 3x optical? But even now when you zoom in it’s decent due to software.

It just feels like Google don't care enough to make the Pixel true competition to the likes of Samsung & Apple. They seem content with having a rather small number of Pixel fans who will always buy one.

There's never going to be a perfect phone. But they were years behind everyone in moving from a single rear camera and no doubt will be another wait for a third to be added.

They skimped on ram for the 3 which drew plenty of complaints and never seem to care to give their flagships decent battery sizes.

While the 4a looks great value, the release time has been a bit of a mess considering it was supposedly ready months ago.

If there is no 5XL, they'll alienate even more people who would normally buy a Pixel. No XL could either mean just a smaller phone this year. Or maybe just having a larger Pixel but dropping the XL branding. But then they'll put off buyers who prefer smaller devices.

I'd like to think Google wouldn't just soley rely on their camera software and introduce a newer sensor this year.

That would be a poor move from Google. Good for me who wants bigger than the 6.3" XL they currently offer. But bad for those who like a smaller size.

I dread to think how Google are going to handle 5G & 120hz with their battery life history.....

That is a great point....as much as I love my P4XL the battery life needs big improvement. Especially with 5G and 120hz being added this year.

Agreed. If I see the Pixel 5 with 5G and 120hz display and only a slight battery bump...Im out. Im done buying into Googles whole battery learning AI tricks. They work to a degree but at some point you can only do so much with the mAh you have available.

It won't stop me from buying the Pixel 5XL. The pixel does so many things better than other Android phones...I can put with a subpar battery. All phones come with compromises....

Fair enough. Different strokes I guess. In 2020, getting a phone that can't last a full day is something I'm not willing to put up with. But I understand overlooking it because of all the things Pixel phone do so well.

I guess it depends on circumstances but I have a charger on my desk at work, another in my car and another near the main seating in my home, plus one by the bed. Power is never far, and if I think I'll be away for long enough, I have power banks I can slip in my pocket or backpack.

Totally understand. It's a personal use thing. I'm also constantly around chargers. But imo if I'm paying 1k for a phone in 2020, theres no reason I should have to worry about staying near a charger. I think the 4 XL was the minimum level of battery life I'm willing to put up with.

face unlock on pixel 5? Did face unlock work the same as on iphone? (Or better?)

It's weird how the Pixel 4 and Pixel 3 were two of the most leaked phones ever. But this year, nobody really knows what to expect from the Pixel 5 and it's almost fall already.

This here is a take home message for many, mainly myself in that I spend time swapping and changing in search of the perfect phone.

Thinking about that image, if those are the 4a 5G & 5, no way the 5 is 6.67" like the tweet earlier suggests. It's barely bigger than the 4a which we know is 5.8".
If the tweet is true then that must be in reference to a coming 5XL, not yet appearing in any images. Anyway it'd be absurd of Google to leave out the bigger size factor for the 5.

Which isn't to say they actually won't...given that their phone business does kind of embrace the absurd a lot of the time :p

Maybe. Plus we have no idea which leaks are closest to the truth. Makes a change for Google to keep things quiet about a device after the last couple of years.
