Verizon doesn't swap devices any better. I talked to 3 different reps yesterday to get sim card activated on my main line for my S23U from my 15PM. this whole esim things is a royal pain in the arse for all of us that change devices frequently.
well damn. A buddy of mine said he has no problem going back and forth between pixel and iphone. Sounds like it might just be time to shelve the iPhone until this crap gets worked out.

T-Mobile’s eSIM switching isn’t amazing but it’s working. It used to be just submitting a form online. Now they make you contact customer service. I’ve had good luck lately though. I send them a message saying here’s my old imei and here’s my new one and to move eSIM. Usually no questions and done within minutes.

On the phone withdrawal, it’s definitely a thing. If I don’t have an iPhone and android phone as options at all times I get anxious. I tend to be most interested in whichever isn’t currently active. 😀

i love my iPhone 15PM it is an amazing device. Buuut I do hold a grudge against it every time i switch because of the whole esim thing.
iPhone does not use Sim cards any longer? Or its just that once you register for esim its a pain to go back? Asking because if i can help it, im never going to go to esim.

In Europe they still have a physical SIM card slot but not in the US.

I will probably pick up a black 15 PM tomorrow. I miss the smoothness when scrolling and next year Apple will probably move to esim in Europe as well.

I have Verizon and switching esim between iPhones is easy, but iPhone to Android, no, not easy.
well crud. I spent nearly 25 minutes on the phone yesterday with AT&T switching. Looks like with all the carriers the only option is to either call customer service or go to a store which I will not do. Going to call tonight to get my esim switched back over to my Pixel. They are all going to know me by name after a while lol

Part of Apples "Lock in" strategy. Make it as painful as possible to switch to Android in every possible way. Want to text Android, you won't have a good time if you send anything other than text. Want to switch out your Sim to an Android phone not so smooth.

I really like Apple products but the "lock in" and lack of interoperability between platforms really pisses me off. If it wasn't purposely implemented by Apple then my feelings would be different. I don't like feeling forced to use something.

Apple should make all of their devices not only work well within the Apple ecosystem but also on other platforms. This would boost sales in the long term. In the short term it keeps customers but it also can upset people who may have family and friends who use other platforms or even they may have a Mac and prefer an Android phone.

I don't expect Apple to go out of its way to make everything interoperable but at least make some effort. More and more people are going to wake up to the fact that they are locked in a system that doesn't give them any flexibility outside of Apple devices.

Make truly market leading products and you can have a great ecosystem without locking your customers in and everything else out. I know this has been Apple's strategy forever but sometimes you have to adapt and change even if in the short term and on the surface it may look counterintuitive.

I won't hold my breath that Apple will change. The lock in has made me rethink my buying habits and has made me consider leaving Apple altogether. I won't but instead of going all in it has made me pause. As much as I love Apple products I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket.

Case in point was when Apple was going to implement "CSAM" scanning of every photo in your library both on devices and in the cloud. Scanned by some AI. We all know how completely accurate AI is 100% of the time. On top of that it is essentially putting a system level back door into the OS. All of this by the company that championed personal privacy as paramount to all of their products.

Now I hate anyone who abuses children but the idea of some nameless AI scanning all my photos was just creepy and against everything Apple said they stood for. Who is to say foreign governments wouldn't abuse the back door and target political opponents using the same technology?

Let's just say even though Apple eventually gave up on the idea after a ton of push back I lost my trust in them and the marketing around privacy. It also made me wonder what I could do if I didn't want this scanning and everything I own is Apple?

I will not only own Apple products because of this, plus I just like using multiple platforms and always have.

It's certainly a reason I haven't used Apple products for years now. I haven't had an iPhone since 2011 because they don't work well with others and I absolutely hated iTunes.

Now IF I ever want to try and iPhone again, I have to get a iPhone 13 because I'll never go to esim unless that's the only option for all phones.

I also am going back to using adaptive battery starting tonight. Today was the last day with it off most of the week.
I found it wasn't any better with it off and actually a little worse.

Well. It didn’t last long.
I’ve had my series 9 Apple Watch for a week and have just returned to Apple. It is a big jump over my series 3 in terms of performance, battery life, better screen etc, but £699 for something I am using as a glorified notification tracker is too much.
I had hoped I would finally “get” the Apple Watch having got a brand spanking up to date one, but despite even tracking my stats during tennis practice 3 times this week and trying to use features of it I’ve never bothered with before, I am just not sold. Most overrated gadget ever. (For my use cases and in just my opinion).

Also, I’ve enquired on market place about a brand new Pixel 8 Pro someone fairly local is selling for £50 less than I just sold mine for. All being well I may be back on the pixel train tomorrow.

I accept the “I told you so’s” gracefully and with no shame. Ok, maybe a little shame. I should have known better.
It still doesn’t help the iPhone vs Pixel issue, but not having the Pixel has bothered me a lot. And more than I thought it would. I guess when you’ve used one for what feels like forever as your main device, it’s easy to take for granted and then difficult to give up. Certainly in my case anyway.

I've gone p7p back to iPhone to p7p again, then s23 then s23 plus then iPhone 15 pro then s23 plus again then regretted selling the pixel so got a p8p. Happy now

What’s the latest on software updates for the P8P? I heard initially the battery life was terrible and other bugs. Has Google optimized it since it was released?

Battery life was fine for me. Nothing wrong with it. If anything, it was hugely improved over the Pixel 7 series.
There were bugs some people were seeing. I sold mine just before the latest update hit, so couldn’t tell you if anything changed sorry.

Why did you sell and what do you have now?

I haven't had any battery issues. I don't think I've ever ended the day with less than 30% left.

Very interesting. So one person didn't notice any difference or slightly worse, you feel the same as well and on my phone there is a significant difference in a positive direction turned off.

I guess adaptive battery really is adaptive?

Thanks for testing.

I wonder if anyone else will notice an improvement with adaptive battery turned off or am I the only one?

We are all a little fickle with our devices on these forums. The only way you know for sure is by trying things out. Sometimes in that process you realize that something you got rid of is better than what you just got and go back. Been there a few times.

I hope it works out and you are able to get the same Pixel you had for less!

I have been using the Pixel watch 2 for a while now. It is my first smartwatch and I never bought one because I just didn't see the need.

I am sort of on the fence. I really like the Pixel watch 2 but the screen on any watch is pretty small and it has limited practicality. I have found tracking my heart rate has been very helpful. I like being able to get texts on the watch. The battery life is great. The watch is very responsive. I like the size and weight.

But I still wonder if I really need a smart watch.

I have to say Apple design for the Apple watch is better. I don't really like the round face as it seems to waste usable space. The Apple watch ultra looks really cool. I mean for the ultimate smartwatch I don't think it is that expensive. Considering how much people will spend on a luxury watch.

But for now I am enjoying the Google ecosystem.
