If they throw in a Pixel Watch 2, that would be a great deal.

I also get a 15% discount for a military discount my dad has. Samsung allow it to be used straight away, ie during preorders. Apple don't tho, they are sneaky and only allow the military discount to be used months after the phones have been announced. Not sure how Google deal with it?
Not sure on discounts I must admit

After a spell with the S23 Ultra this year, I've upgraded from a Z Fold 4 to a 15 Pro Max. I'm into videography, so ProRes Log using DaVinci Resolve etc. The iPhone is unrivalled in overall video. Very interested to see if Google really step up the video quality on the 8 Pro. The potential of the new AI video & photo features look pretty bonkers.

If the price is good on the 8 Pro and they offer a good pre-order deal in Italy, I'm in for the Sky blue (looks stunning) to use alongside the iPhone.

Anyone have experience with trading in an iPhone with a busted back glass to google or Samsung? I would be curious what kind of trade I could get with this 13 Pro Max with a busted back glass

I hate this time of year!

Debating what to do with my current situation. After having my 7 stolen, and replacing with a 7A, I am wondering if I will be fine sitting out this year and rocking this (surprisingly awesome) device.

Since my mom is happy with her iPhone XS Max, and it gets another year (possibly 2) of updates, she will not need (or likely want) my smaller 14 pro that I was planning on giving her. This means I will likely be able to fund a Pixel upgrade if the 8 is compelling enough to move into one.

Hard part is, the 7a is really great, I like how it is a touch smaller than the 7, and feels plenty fast and has cameras (from what I can tell) that are just as good. Having airmessage (gets iMessages to my pixel) this is often the phone I take when I want to travel light, have RCS and iMessage for an easy grab and go Single device.

7A is nice, it fits me, it does what I wanted to. I was content with the 3 all the way up to the point upgrades stopped, now I have been on a path of new iOS and Android phone for the past couple years.

GAH what to do !

Google Pixel 8: 699 GBP
Google Pixel 8 Pro: 999 GBP.
Google Pixel Watch 2: 349 GBP

While a little disappointing, even if that's true it still makes it cheaper than the iPhone 15 and the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. If they include a Pixel Watch 2, it's actually a good deal.

The only thing now putting me off a bit are the comments about the Tensor chip. I don't know that much about Google Pixels so excuse my ignorance. Are we talking a Samsung Exynos situation? where the chips are not very power efficient and battery life is ok at best?

I personally don't game on my phones, I have an Xbox and PS5 for that (what little spare time I do have these days) but phones just lately seem to having heat issues, even the iPhone 15 Pro Max seems to be having heat issues.

The Tensor G2 are more prone to heat up the Pixel 7's, not just with high powered use like gaming but in standard use. Known issues reported with heat dissipation. The Pixel's are noticeably hotter than the Samsung S23 Ultra & Apple iPhone.

Secondly, battery efficiency is an issue with battery life drain a common problem with the G2. There may be other issues but I think these are the two main ones with Tensor.

Hopefully, both problems can be rectified by Google on the 8's with the new Tensor G3 chip.

Pixel's are still way better value than Apple or Samsung, especially at pre-order time with the deal bundles.

Interesting if the standard 8 has a 100 price increase. But I kind of get it.
I personally don’t see the point in the A series existing, when by the time it comes out you can practically get the standard Pixel for almost the same price if not 50-100 more and it gives you a better phone.

If they all came out at the same time then the pricing points they all have currently would work. But with this being Android, prices drop.

Still, roll on the 4th. My iPhone is delayed and the longer that goes on the easier it will be for me to go *🏼 and just stick to Pixel. No odds to me 😁

UK base prices for the new Google products:

Google Pixel 8: 699 GBP
Google Pixel 8 Pro: 999 GBP.
Google Pixel Watch 2: 349 GBP.

Imagine this is due to better hardware

I may wait and see what early reviews say, hopefully there will be early reviews that are still inside the pre-order window. I can then make my mind up and pre-order after seeing that they fixed the heat issues and still get the pre-order gift.

I do like great battery life, my iPhone 14 Pro Max has great battery life for what I need. If the Pixel 8 can match or exceed iPhone 14 Pro Max battery life and fix heating issues, I'll be happy to pre-order.

It’s always a tricky one isn’t it-you’d like the opportunity to get the reviews in but then you don’t want to miss out on any potential pre order bonuses.

I expect the main tech influencers will have the 8/8 Pro already at this point before next weeks official announcement so fingers crossed they can give some early thoughts.

Thanks to the prices of the Galaxy Ultra and IPhone pros, the Pixel Pros have a little room to raise their price. But the closer they get to those phones, the more they’ll be compared which won’t be favorable to the Pixel. At the price point they’re at now, they’re awesome values.

What isn’t a good value is the Pixel Watch, unless it’s for free with the Pixel Pro. I can’t believe they’re still only offering it in one size. I tried one on in store and it was way too small. But at least they’re upgrading the processor in it. Last year when they released it using a two year old processor and asking $350, I thought it was a joke.

Pixel pre-order's can be attractive for sure. Unfortunately, going above a base configuration P8 jacks the price up into pained wallet territory for me. I've gotten used to 6.6"-ish devices so it would probably end up putting me in P8 Pro territory which is tossing more money into an already pricey device.

The Tensor 3 is rumored to gain 20% performance improvement over the current model. According to Tom's Hardware, it will still end up trailing behind the custom Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 2 SoC in the S23's (that runs cooler and has a proven track record of solid performance).

An S23 or even S23+ on sale (assuming the larger form factor is acceptable) at $300 or more discount (for the latter) compared to a new P8 appears to be an overall better value at the moment. Exceptions being "cleaner Android", an extra 2 years of OS and security updates and if taking photos is #1 on your list. Realistically can't see myself using a mobile much past the 5 years that Samsung offers. Maybe if I went for the P8Pro though, that is a very long time...

They’ve got me this year.

Yeah I never keep my phones 3 years. 2.5 has been my tops. 2 is the norm.

May get the P8 as my P7 has been a little disappointing compared to the 4a. If the 7a is a really good phone i may just get that instead.
