Pixel pre-order's can be attractive for sure. Unfortunately, going above a base configuration P8 jacks the price up into pained wallet territory for me. I've gotten used to 6.6"-ish devices so it would probably end up putting me in P8 Pro territory which is tossing more money into an already pricey device.

The Tensor 3 is rumored to gain 20% performance improvement over the current model. According to Tom's Hardware, it will still end up trailing behind the custom Qualcomm Snapdragon Gen 2 SoC in the S23's (that runs cooler and has a proven track record of solid performance).

An S23 or even S23+ on sale (assuming the larger form factor is acceptable) at $300 or more discount (for the latter) compared to a new P8 appears to be an overall better value at the moment. Exceptions being "cleaner Android", an extra 2 years of OS and security updates and if taking photos is #1 on your list. Realistically can't see myself using a mobile much past the 5 years that Samsung offers. Maybe if I went for the P8Pro though, that is a very long time...
The Pixel range have always represented best of Google & stock / clean Android, immediate updates at great value vs competitors. I've always gone for the Pro version so I don't look at the base versions. I like what Google are doing with AI. Pro camera's are great, I just want Google to match Apple with video quality as I use video a lot. The Pro's are very cheap vs Apple & Samsung equivalents. I loved both the 4XL and 6 Pro, skipped the 7 Pro last year.

Google are slowly etching into pricing territory they are better to stay out of; this year is still decent value on the Pro especially with a pre-order bundle but I'm worried they'll keep going up now.

Samsung do offer mega pre-order discount deals. Last couple of years they've taken a leaf from Google's pre-order book here. I bought a 1TB S23 Ultra in the UK during pre-order with £200 voucher from Samsung & then actually sold it for slightly more after 4 months!

I'm a different buyer, an annual upgrader, sometimes with both Apple & Android, but understand the importance of the extra 2 year OS & security updates for people holding onto their phones for 2 years plus.

iPhones still hold their value remarkably well each year whilst I find Pixel's are even better value down the line.

Interesting to hear about the 20% performance increase with the Tensor G3. If they can improve battery life and address at least some of the heat issues I'm sold this year. Qualcomm will likely stay ahead of the Android field, Apple & Samsung go head to head with chips.

Looking forward to comparing the 15 Pro Max to the 8 Pro, pricing will be part of my comparison too. I enjoyed the 23 Ultra Z & Fold 4 but OneUI isn't really my cup of OS, despite the superb Qualcomm Gen 2 in the Ultra.

Hoping Google could be onto a winner this year with the 8.

I like the extra bright screen, Pixel's have typically had dim displays, so will be nice to have a bright screen on a Pixel, which are normally only found on Galaxy's and iPhone's.

I truly don’t understand why they don’t release two different sizes. It’s not as if Google (Alphabet) is some small independent company.

I’m interested in using the Pixel Watch over the Galaxy Watch, but I rather have a bigger size.
I got a super cheap gen 1 this weekend gone and I like the size, my daily watch is a 39mm Tudor BB58 though so I am biased to smaller watches.

Agree the watch is too small ...and hopefully they don't hold down the outdoors brightness with software ..on my Fold the outdoors brightness is plenty but it then lowers if you use it for a bit ...I know they try to protect the phone but it's ridiculously too fast when it kicks in to lower ...

Lets hope they've nailed the adaptive brightness because in my experience, they are slow to react. Taking my phone out of my pocket to answer a call on a sunny day, I'm left staring at a dim screen, waiting for it to realise it needs to go brighter.

I really like that grey color on Pixel 8

But unfortunately Google still gives the Pro the better spec's. Nicer screen tech. More RAM. Better camera.

Wish they'd make the smaller Pixel with the exact same hardware as the larger Pro.
I think it's all about selling different price points... So you can't give the smaller phone the same specs and jump up the price and have two phones at the higher price..

But Apple does it with the iPhone 15 Pro AND iPhone 15 Pro Max

Google also has the lower tier Pixel 7a series for the budget buyers.
Apple takes a little bit off the Pro as well but definitely closer to Max ...but prices are both close higher .. and they are really releasing more than two phones... Because if you look at the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus That's the price point similar to what Google is doing with the Pixel 8 ..

I hear ya.

I just would like to go to a smaller phone but also have the high-end flagship specs.

But with Google, that's only the Pro version that gets all the bells and whistles. And looks like the Pixel 8 Pro is what I'll get.

Maybe grab the regular 8 for my Wife, she's currently using the Pixel 5a.

Well. These leaks are delicious.
I am almost glad that my iPhone is delayed as I may just stick with Pixel and upgrade my non Pro 14 to a non Pro 15.

The display is the most exciting thing for me. I always did struggle a bit with the Pixel in really bright sunlight, so this is a huge win.

Plus, I love the look of the hardware. Matte glass hooray. They just need to do away with the chrome camera bar now for the Pixel 9 as that thing scratches too easily.

The free Watch is also sweet!

14 > 15 is the real upgrade on iPhone this year, obviously 14 > 15 Pro is too but rather get a Pixel 8 Pro personally. 😜
