I do agree on Nothing OS 2.0, it's like the awesome CyanogenMod back in the day, which was vanilla Android but with tweaks and way more customizable, then it became Lineage OS, and then Oxygen OS, and now it sucks and is corporate bullcrap Oppo OS.
I love stock Android and the Pixel line, but Pixel UI is way too basic, and way too minimal, I wish it was more like CyanogenMod.
And totally agree on Scamdung's I mean Samesuck's, sorry Samsung's Lagwizz UI, I know it's called One UI, and I haven't owned a Galaxy phone since the Note 9, but it was always laggy with hicups and microstutters, but the word is Samsung has finally made it smooth with One UI 5.1 But read Reddit and like 25% still say there's minor lag here and there and it's still not as smooth as a Pixel or OnePlus phone. Is that true?
crApple and the iClone suck, mostly because of the terrible iOS, which is the worst. Will iOS ever be good? it's slowly getting there, iOS 13 and 14 saw some nice improvements, but to me, it won't be as good as Android until Tim Cook is gone and a new person in charge, but maybe iOS 20 will be good.
I think next years Nothing Phone 3 will be near flagship level, and probably the best enthusiast Android phone of 2024.
iSheep here, keep your pants on, I'm talking half jokingly here, not being totally serious, so chill on this reply LOL
I started this iteration of Andoid adventure with Pixel 4a and as my "switch" platform away from iPhone (8 Plus). After a bit of a rocky start with RCS, importing sound files and a few other awkwardly painful head scratchers I was generally impressed. The camera in that little sucker did exceptionally well (even in low light) and I'd say if photos are #1 for your mobile device, Pixel is the outright winner.
I've since gone to OnePlus... first the OP 8 which I moved away from with that curved screen for 8T 256/12. I've been using OxygenOS since A10 and have applied all updates soon after they became available. Never really had any problems with stability, performance, etc. other than slow camera focus and processing time early on. Only thing that has me moving onto another device is the USB-C port is getting tempramental (after lint cleaning multiple times).
Got an S23+ setup a week or so ago and without question, it is snappier than my 8T. Haven't noticed any hiccups/lagginess, stability issues, etc. so far.
Note: I did
adb shell pm uninstall --user more than 70 items of clutter, some of which duplicated other apps and others I will never use.
The S23+ has the custom gen 2 Qualcomm processor, same as the Ultra. I like the smaller form factor.
Display is not as crazy nice as Ultra though not bad at all and I like what they've done with fonts compared to Pixel 6/7 "base" models.
Nothing 2 looks cool but just too far behind modern hardware specs in my opinion.
Developers are getting whacked and also jumping ship from Apple. Some of the good ones are going to Samsung from what a few dev's and managers have said recently. Google development is like Adobe (not so good at times and screw the pooch with gusto here and there as well lol). I'd bet on Samsung dev shaking things up more than Google.
Pixel quality remains hit or miss and support ranges from awesome to incredibly horrid. On the hardware side: buttons stop working or fall out, display issues, dodgy radios, slowwww charging, heat management challenges, etc.
The 8's will get a new mystical 3rd gen processor that is still behind Qualcomm performance.
S23+ at $650 total including tax vs P8P at $1k or more for a better camera and dice rolls elsewhere does not have me jumping for joy and ready to plunk down pre-order.
