For that, I use the Google Opinon Rewards app. By completing survey tasks you can earn Google Playstore credit. I've bought so many free Google apps with this over the years! Or you can build up the credit & buy a YouTube subscription.
Been doing this for years, usually use it to rent movies lol. I'll definitely be subbing to Google One for 3 months on the top tier, it's less than £2 a month for the first 3 months then I'll downgrade to the lowest paid tier I think. Should definitely have the credit by then!

Google one is great.
The benefits listed above are good.
Like I used my iPhone on holiday recently and wanted magic eraser but no pixel. Well, turns out I can’t still use magic eraser in the Google photos app as I have a one membership!
I’ve also used the Google expert feature before too and it’s fab.

Plus, I get 2TB of storage which goes across both my iPhone photos and Google (all syncs together) so it’s so worth it for me.

Screen grab of magic eraser on iPhone.

I did the same using Google Photos with my Z Fold 4, it's great!

Haha well I'm between a few possibilities right now. I'm most likely going to go with the iPhone 15 Pro Max and fully transition back to Apple. But I do really love my S23 Ultra other than the issues with texts (which is actually a huge issue). I have considered the Fold 5 and Pixel 8 pro as well, but in seeing the Fold 5 in person, I actually felt like it was a bit cheap feeling. It was odd, but that's just the vibe I got. Pixels are great but I'm nervous about the hardware and getting sick of it. iPhone is the safe choice and I've noticed that with Android, I do spend more time on my device than I should just tweaking stuff.
This is the first time in 6 years I did not get a new iPhone on launch day.

I got my S23 Ultra back in March, and I still have my iPhone 14 PM I just use on WiFi, and I barely ever use the iPhone. I am still enjoying my S23U.

I am considering ordering the Pixel 8 Pro when pre-orders start. Not entirely sure yet, but am leaning that way.

My wife and daughter are still disgusted with my green bubble texting, but oh well. :)

My wife and kids continue rolling their eyes at my "green" messages (that I've had for a few years now), TFB lol

Do people seriously comment on "green text messages" today? I cannot even comprehend such a thing to get upset over. First world problems I guess. Man society is so sad today.

And I blame this on Apple's stubbornness in not either incorporating RCS into iMessage or making IMessage available on other platforms, but they never will, because they fear losing customers.

Also there's alternative apps, like WhatsApp which has like 3 billion users, or Telegram. I have both of those apps on my Pixel to better communicate with family members that have iPhone's and it works great. Even my Mom who's 79 and not a tech person at all, installed WhatsApp and Google Meet for video chat, and if she can do it, anyone can.

Thank God my teenage kids don't care about the iPhone and want nothing to do with it. They love their Pixel's. And for us all being on Pixel phones, RCS messages work great with the high res pics and videos.

It’s not necessarily anything to do with the color, but what’s attached to it. The color distinguishes who’s capable of exploring all the iMessage features.

It all comes down to the fact iMessage enriches communication shared between people and the most important thing about it.. it’s baked into the OS. Whereas other alternatives… have to go through the App Store (or Play Store) in order to download it.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the situation that we are in with the “blue bubbles vs green bubbles.”… but I understand why it exists. And if I was in Apple shoes… I’d do the same. Because at the end of the day, they have to sell hardware.

Yes they do.

Apple has said if iMessage was available on other platforms they're worried people might not stick with an iPhone anymore.

They purposely keep it exclusive to the iPhone to keep everybody locked into their walled garden.

Just another reason I hate Apple. But so many "iS" feel they absolutely must have iMessage, which I just never understood for the life of me. iMessage is just another text app, nothing unique or special.

Yeah I'm pretty pathetic. I actually picked up an iPhone 15 Pro Max today and I can't bring myself to even turn it on. Sitting here thinking the S23 Ultra is the best phone I've ever used but I think I would still prefer to roll with Apple from now on. And no, not doing the 2 phones thing. Haha

I'm 100% with you... It's not about the green or the blue it's about the convenience and when you're in a chat or group chat you don't want to go to WhatsApp to share something or another platform when everybody else is sitting comfortably and iMessage so yes I agree plenty of people use other platforms include in myself.. and I have no problems sharing stuff from my Android phones to my iPhone peeps but sometimes videos and certain stuff does degrade when sending and I have to create links from a regular text app on Android.. and my friends sure in the hell don't want to see me sending WhatsApp messages and reply to a current chat that we have going on and iMessage.. so it's more about the green versus blue lol... And I don't blame apple for not wanting to budge on it I wouldn't either I'd give two f's

It sucks. I've really come to dislike Apple for many reasons, but there are just a lot of annoyances I have when not using Apple products. If that makes sense.
I can totally understand it... I mean it's definitely easy for me to enjoy the phone since I'm dual phone carrying... I enjoy my iPhone 12 Pro and I expect to have a good experience with the new phone coming up... I think it's going to be a good upgrade for someone like me on my iOS side..

My answer might be a little surprising considering I probably use more Apple gear than most regulars in this sub forum, but I say don’t do it. And not because the 15 PM isn’t a great phone—really enjoying mine. If you’ve successfully extracted yourself from the Apple ecosystem and are enjoying your existence ‘outside the wall’, I say stick with it.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra is a great phone that you’ve already been enjoying so I vote for just ignoring that old iOS itch.

I’ve had the same dilemma a few times—some of their business practices annoy the **** out of me and I’ve considered culling my herd of Apple stuff more than once.

But when I stop, sit back and look at things f across the industry, I realize they’re far from the only company with some ‘anti-consumer’ practices and if I let that dictate what I buy and use, there really wouldn’t be anything left to choose from. ;)

Not saying that Apple can do no wrong—there’s a proverbial line that if any company crossed I’d kick em to the curb. There’s one company that quickly comes to mind that I will not give a cent of my money nor a second of my time.

This is the exact same problem I’ve had when trying out none Apple devices. I really like what Samsung have done with the S23 Ultra and I’m sure the S24 Ultra will be even better (especially if they stick with Snapdragon and no Exynos!). BUT Apple have that ecosystem, an ecosystem that’s just so simple to use where everything just works so well together. The deeper you are in the Apple ecosystem the harder it is to leave.

There are devices out there that are better than Apple’s, i actually think the last couple of years or so Apple have just become a cash cow. There power is the locked in ecosystem and they know it.

Even other companies want to emulate it, Samsung are definitely trying and so are Google, but none are quite as good as Apple at it (yet).

Biggest breakthrough for me was taking back the S9 Apple Watch I ordered after the Apple event a couple of weeks ago. Always felt tied to it that if I had the Watch, I couldn't get rid of the phone. Which is completely daft as I know plenty of people with iPhones and Fitbits.

Friday is my day I go into London and all I see is iPhones and AirPods. Everywhere. I look at them and they've reached common status now. Like there isn't anything wrong in that per se but for me, I want to stand out a bit more and am ready to try something different.

Yeah it's definitely a good strategy for sure. The only thing getting in the way of me choosing that route, to be frank, is that I absolutely cannot stand the double apps with Samsung. I get so frustrated with the way the phone handles photos. I want to exclusively use Google Photos and I pretty much do, but then if I want to upload a photo from Facebook, it defaults to the Samsung Photos app and I then have to remember which one I edited and it just takes much much longer. Hate it! It's those types of things that make me just want to go back to something simpler like iOS.
