If I went and told the dozens of folks I communicate with regularly via iMessage that we need to use something else for our specific communication, I'd probably hear from them a lot less or I'd still just be getting messages via iMessage.
This is my exact scenario as well. It's the thing that probably kept me from switching solely to Android. My entire social circle, family and friends, uses iMessage and FaceTime except for one person. I could talk my spouse into switching to another app but not the other 10-12 people I message with regularly.

I've explained it adnaseum. You don't understand the dilemma many other US based iPhone users feel because your social circle is not typical for much of the US, especially as you yourself dont use an iPhone. Other countries use WhatsApp with near ubiquity because that's what claimed an early foothold. Undoing that behavior around the rest of the world would be just as difficult as asking iPhone users to stop using iMessage here in the US. If I went and told the dozens of folks I communicate with regularly via iMessage that we need to use something else for our specific communication, I'd probably hear from them a lot less or I'd still just be getting messages via iMessage.

Same situation would exist for @Aneres11 or @Dave245 if you said they need to stop communicating with WhatsApp and instead tell all of their contacts to switch to something else, just for their chats.

I mean it would be a pain to switch all my chats over to iMessage, from WhatsApp. On the flip side I do have people who use iMessage also. I just think for voice notes WhatsApp is a lot easier, even on an iPhone.

I sold my Samsung Watch 4 Classic, but I later learned that you can use WhatsApp directly on it via the official WhatsApp Google play store app. That same app isn’t available on the Apple Watch. It’s a little annoying.

Secretly looking forward to being able to use that-had a friends wife who recently moved from Android to Apple message me asking how she could respond to a WhatsApp message on her AW. I broke the news to her gently. Lol

You can still respond to messages on the Apple Watch, but there is no direct app to download on the watch itself. Android has it tho and I’ve been so tempted to get a Samsung Watch 6 classic just to try it out, of course it would mean having to buy a S23 Ultra yet again 😬

My company is probably 50/50 iPhone / Android users, mostly my male coworkers and boss have an Android phone, and they've said their Wives and kids all have iPhones. And I've asked them before, would you switch from your Samsung phone to an iPhone for better texting via iMessage? Each one of them loudly said HELL NO, but they seem to have more of an anti Tim Cook or Apple stance for some reason, and I'm not sure what that's about. But no they don't want an iPhone.

Even us in our family that have Pixel phones, but my in-laws all have iPhones or a couple of my other siblings and Mom have an iPhone. We have zero problem communicating with them via texting through Google Messages to iMessage, the texts still go through, photos still get shared, we don't feel like we're losing anything, and those with the iPhone's have never complained about our Google texts or anything. It's a non issue in the real world.

And my brother in Spain, he prefers us to text him via WhatsApp or Telegram which we all have installed on our various Android phones or iPhone's, and it works great, and get no complaints from people needing to download a third party text app.

I guess I just don't see the issue, even though you try to explain it, still doesn't make sense to me.

Let me go back, the last time I had an iPhone was the 12 Pro Max, as I was happy to try out on iPhone, my first since the iPhone 3G. I recall being super pumped for it, and actually excited for iMessage, seriously. After a few days I asked some people, is there some settings or options I have disabled to get the full magic out of iMessage? Because I'm not seeing anything extra special or unique about it, my iPhone friends said no, "it just works" But even when texting my siblings that do have iPhone's direct iMessage to iMessage, I thought I didn't have iMessage configured properly or there was some issue, because it just seemed so regular to me, not bad nor great, but just another text app to be honest. I'm not trying to diss iMessage, honestly, I just didn't see the magic or speciaspecialness of it.

Ok rant over, let's talk Pixel 8 movving forward :)

Generally I have issues with messaging on Android devices because the images don’t come through as full quality. It’s a pixelated mess. I guess people who have only ever used Android devices are used to low quality images.

Generally people here prefer iMessage because it allows for feature rich communication. I’d argue the US market is more representative and important than European market in terms of what users are looking for. The US market simply makes more money and has a bigger population.

Hoping Google adds a check in feature on the Pixel 8 like how iPhone has it. It would be helpful for teenagers with no friends because their parents can know once they’ve made it home safely.

Are you guys going to be pre-ordering the Pixel 8 or the 8 Pro? Do the Pro range usually have better cameras than the Samsung Ultra range?

When i used the S23 Ultra, i was impressed by the camera (in particular the zoom) and the battery life.

The Pro Pixel's always have the better specs. I wish that wasn't the case, I'd like a smaller phone but Google makes the Pro version with the higher end specs. Not a massive major difference, but still the hardware is slightly better on the Pro.

I’ve had the 6.1” iPhones for a while now so with my change I’m going 8 Pro. Heart wants Blue, head wants Black because I don’t think I can pull the Blue off! Haha

I really like that blue 8 Pro colour, also i saw a leak that showed new Pixel Buds and there is a blue colour to match the blue 8 Pro :)

I’ve never used Pixel Buds but they do look nice

If I manage to secure the Blue, I’ll have to get Blue everything else (strap with Watch, Buds Pro, Case). Lol

Same lol, I’m new to Pixel so i will probably have to pick up accessories. I love my AirPods Pro, but the fact that they come only in white is a little boring. If i get the Pixel 8 Pro, I will have to get the Pixel Buds Pro to at least try.

From what leaks are saying, the Pixel Watch 2 will be given away with the Pixel Pro 8 but i would definitely add extra watch bands.

Cases have leaked, I’m not sure how durable Pixel devices are, but i do like the look of the blue case. I may go case less tho if the Pixel doesn’t get scratched.

Was just going to post this LOL

I see there's 4 cases for each version. Is there a green color coming? Because all the leaks so far pointed to just 3 colors available.

I was wondering this, maybe there will be a green version as well as the other colours.

Hmm I don’t think there will be 4 colours, but you never know!
I don’t like the look of the green shade from the above image. 🥲.

I’m a bit torn with what to go for. Black is absolutely no. I’m not a black rectangle guy. Boring boring boring.

Porcelain I don’t want gold accents which this looks like it may give… and blue I feel I’d get bored with over time.

I do think the Pixel colours have got progressively weaker since the redesign with the P6 / P6 Pro. Sorta Sunny remains undefeated!
