Happy Google Pixel Day all!
Feels like Christmas!

I'm still undecided on what colour or memory to pre-order. I do like the new blue, would have preferred matte camera & sides, looking forward to hands-on. The black looks so good in matte & is a safer long-term option.
The porcelain looks great too but I am coming from a Z Fold 4 in gold / beige so want to mix it up this year.
Maybe Google will surprise us with Coral as an exclusive colour. Either 256GB or 512GB storage.

It’s either going to go one of three ways:

- Lay down the cash on the Black 8 Pro and Pixel Watch 2 combo.

- Lay down the cash on an iPhone 15 Pro.

- Do neither of above and buy a new case for my 13 Pro so I can pretend my phone is new lol.
I've already gone down the 15 PM route but I'm excited about the Pixel 8 Pro to see what is new with software and AI features. Android 14 is out today too.

It’s an 8 Pro and Watch combo for me.
My 15 PM arrived yesterday and I love it. So for me it’ll be a shoot out between the two to see which I like more…
Yeah the 15PM is superb. I intend to duel with my 15PM and 8 Pro. Going for the pre-order deal with the Watch 2 in the UK. Will have a bit of a wait to collect as I'm not back until late October. This year I can see Google selling out of the 8 Pro pretty fast on their main site.

So today is the day and lucky for me I also got approval to upgrade my work device so now I’m thinking I’ll go with the Pixel for work and keep my personal sim in my old work 13 Pro. It’s going to be interesting how I adjust with two devices after many years with carrying only one but i’ve been wanting to do it for a while now to keep work and personal separate so now might be a good time to try. Lucky for me I feel right at home at both camps so whichever way this shakes out I’ll manage.

Currently leaning towards regular 8 instead of the Pro due to size. If the grey/hazel-y thingy would have had a matte back then that would have been my choice so because of that black seems like the one.

Yup. Generally tends to happen that way.
Looks like it’s set for a £999 pricing too.
See what happens at 3pm. 😜

Not long now till the event (Around 3 hours here in the UK at 3pm), I’m still torn to be honest. Do i take a gamble and buy the Pixel Pro 8, or do i just stick with my iPhone 14 Pro Max and ride this year out.

I’m doing the same deliberations. I said to my wife that I was doing my usual second guessing it and she (don’t tell her) wisely said “surely you get it and then you form your own opinion on it rather than reading stuff online? You’ll know soon enough if it’s for you and if not you can return it.”

Looks like the price for the 8 Pro will go up by €200. I wonder how many they will sell for that price.

That’s a good point to be fair, I’m just not sure on what Google are like for returns. I have returned Samsung phones in the past, I’ve never had an experience with Google Pixel phones. In fact I’ve never even held a Google Pixel.

I‘m towards pre-ordering the Pro 8 in Blue, do you think the battery life will be good? At least last a day.

I have the Pixel 7 Pro and running the latest Android 14 beta, battery life has been very good. Maybe not great like the S23U or the iPhone 13 Pro Max but not bad either.

And the Pixel 8 Pro should be even more efficient than the 7 Pro.

You really should trial it out and just return it if you don’t like it.

Verizon page is up already. The 8 starts at $799 and the 8 Pro starts at $999. It seems the rumors of a $100 increase for the US is true.

Pixel 8 Is Up To 11% Slower Than Pixel 8 Pro In Geekbench 6 Despite Having The Same Tensor G3, Tests Reveal Both Suffer From Overheating
How hot does the snapdragon gen 2 get and which % of stability does it have?

Quite a significant performance gap between the 8 and 8 Pro.
Running the benchmark tests will definitely create extra heat than standard use in any chip. However, I'll be disappointed if Google has not sorted the thermals in the Tensor G3 during real-world usage.

Stuff like this means absolutely nothing to me until the device is in hand.
What “stress” are they putting in the device. Probably running a massive high paced game whilst recording video or something that a normal user would never do. 😜.

I’ll say it again, get it for yourself, try it for yourself and see.
I’ll caveat this by saying I am NOT defending Google if the device turns out to be lemon. Just make your own judgement, basically. For your use case the phone might be absolutely fine.
