But if you go by that projection... Pixel Fold will always be a generation behind the Pixel series. If anything, you'll get the Pixel Fold 2 when that's released and trade it in when the Pixel 9 Pro comes out.

Then repeat that cycle going forward.
I agree. That's my point, it doesn't make sense (to me). Especially with the jump in software features from G2 to G3. Why earth would I buy an 1800 dollar phone with less AI multimedia features than the standard phone version?

And for me I wouldn't be going back and forth. I'm a 1 device guy, if I buy a Fold that's it. On to the next time I buy a Fold version. I wouldn't go back to a slab phone after that, chipset be damned. But buying a Fold now when some of the AI features of the 8 Pro interest me I could at least get in the next Fold.

But yeah, with the way they've scheduled these releases their most expensive device is always going to be a "gimped" version of their slab phones. Maybe others don't care about that.

I think that's just not a good way to go.

This is every foldable though, right?
Samsung do the same with their Fold. It's the most expensive phone they make but it still doesn't have the same camera as their Ultra devices.

I agree with you, though. Until these companies start putting their premium tier specs in their most expensive devices then it's a no from me.

Is the front display not completely flat? My screen protector doesn’t completely stick, it slightly lifts along the edges all the way around.

Anyone else with a screen protector? I have the regular 8.

True, but I'm more focused on the actual chip in the phone. I have no issues with the camera on the Fold, 5X zoom being most important to me. Only reason I buy these ridiculously sized phones. And Google's computational photography has always made their camera hardware much above their weight.

But I agree totally about the camera's too.

Software-wise there's nothing you can't do (to my knowledge) on either Samsung flagship since they both use the highest-end chip pretty much. Core software features are the same. You have the standard and the mid-gen + refresh, sure, but their 1800 dollar phone isn't missing software features. Not the case with the Pixel Fold and Pixel 8 Pro. Audio magic eraser on the Fold? Magic editor? Best take? I have a tough time accepting those not being on the Fold for the price.

I'm glad if someone doesn't have any issues with that. I wish I was one of them but it just bugs to the point where if I buy the Fold 2, what exclusive features of the G4 will be gated-off from it?

So Fedex finally decided to show up, so I got my 8 Pro.

After switching over my eSim, I figured I might as well charge it up before I start setting it all up.

I do notice that it is really warm while charging with the 30 watt Google charging brick. I know phones get warm when charging, but this is a lot warmer than my other phones ever got.

So thats not a good sign right off the bat.

Copying from P7 took about 30 min. It is still downloading all my apps. I have 230.

The good news is it did save/ copy my pages how I had them set up on Nova and Microsoft launchers.
That's what takes the most time to do so this for me was a breeze.
I also really like this case. Has a little bit bigger lip on the front than my Google case did which is fine for drops but swipe backs it's a little different but not a problem. I'll get used to it.

Samsung and Google use the previous chip on their foldable, as a foldable user, I wish it was the other way around, but it is what it is for now. I get it though, it is not ideal. The good thing is, chips are extremely good these days, but yes, paying top dollar for not top specs isn't fun, but the trade off of foldable form factor for me wins.
