$999 for a poorly managed thermal system that just freezes is horrible. The video proof he shows of pure lag and hang up on the Pixel 8 Pro would never happen on an iPhone or Samsung or any flagship using A series chip or Snapdragon.
It never happened to my on the 7 Pro and I have no doubt it will never happen to me on the 8 Pro, which by every measure, doesn't heat up as much in standard day-to-day usage. And that's how I use my phone. Photos, and multi-minute videos, phone perform just phone.

And yes, these things can be fixed via software update. iPhone 15 Pro Max being exhibit A. Android 14 on the Pixel 7 Pro being exhibit B. My 7 Pro would occasionally heat up doing standard day-to-day things. Android 14 basically nullified that the last couple months I was on the beta build.

Is it perfect? Far from it. But it doesn't have near the issues people try to drum when slagging the phone.

But I can only speak from my personal experience with the 6 Pro (did have a modem issue occasionally) and 7 Pro (no connectivity issues whatsoever).

You don't like Google and/or the Tensor-based Pixel line. That's cool, but coming here and trying to start a bar fight about it just confuses me. Riling people up is the only basis for it and it's just bizarre. Ignore the phone and enjoy whatever floats your boat.

For me the Pixel software experience is hard to go back from and I don't know what would honestly pull me away from it. It hasn't been the Tensor G1 or 2, that's for sure.

I completely agree with you. The behavior seems rather widespread on forums in general and certainly on Macrumors more specifically. I have had people mansplain me into why my MBA with m2 sucks compared to their pro....My big question was why are you who own a MacBook pro coming onto a MacBook Air forum and **** on everyone?

Now we are seeing the same behavior. When I see it, I know that those people who are complaining are doing so out of their own insecurities and lack of self worth. They are trying to use a device as a way to lift themselves up and make themselves feel superior by arguing that they have something better and by simply making anyone who owns anything else feel like an idiot. At it's core it is pathetic and sad but on the surface it is extremely annoying and counterproductive to having an intelligent discourse on the the pros and cons of any device.

Most of the people coming on here saying things about the Pixel 8/Pro don't even own it. If you look at posts by people who you can tell actually own the phone, most of them are happy. I have been on multiple forums and no one is complaining about thermals, battery life or reception.

I think it just might really be hard for some people to consider that Google has finally made a competitive product that excels beyond the capability of whatever they own. It is the first time to really take Google seriously. We aren't dealing with obviously substandard hardware anymore. Now they have to consider that in some ways they don't have the best anymore???

My P8P just rebooted on its own sitting next to me on the sofa. For perspective my 15PM has rebooted overnight a couple of times on its own as well. But that is a known issue with a fix coming soon.
Has anyone else P8P rebooted on its own? The phone was not hot or installing any software updates.

Not once since I got the phone has it ever rebooted spontaneously.

It happened once on my s23 ultra and I realized it had just ran an update.

It is possible that you had an update working in the background and it just needed to reboot.

It could also be a system UI wakelock or error, or some other software related issue.

If you notice more unprompted reboots then I would reset the phone. If that doesn't resolve the issue then call Google.

Hopefully it was just a one off thing.

When I first got the 8 Pro as I was updating apps and migrating data it decided to install an update unbeknownst to me.

nope my P8P is up to date on everything. I am not aware of any updates that require a reboot other than system updates or security patches. It was current on everything before the reboot. I just went through all my Android phones earlier today. Looking for Android 14 on my S23U i checked for updates. Then checked for updates on my P8P as well. But I have them all to update automatically at night.

I also got the Hazel Pixel 8 for my Wife, but she's been so busy with work and kids activities she doesn't want me switching her phone out at the moment. So I've been playing with it, got this cool looking grippy case for it;

And man, the smaller size of this phone, and this very comfortable feeling case, makes this little Pixel 8 a joy to hold. It's a very easy phone to grasp and use easily. I've had the Pro or Max or Plus sized phones for years now, I forgot how nice a "small 6.2" screen" feels LOL I might even put my SIM in there and use it for a day, should I or no?
Yeah, I've never bought the Pro or Ultra anything. I like to stick to smaller size which imo are still big.

But I've got to say, we just today got our trade in boxes so I been here and there checking on apps and things with my P7 before I send it off and I think i prefer the size of the P7, even if it is only slightly bigger.

I think it's the bit wider factor that I prefer.

In any case, the trade ins are being sent off tomorrow morning so I won't notice a size difference now lol

Does the pixel have an automatic restart option like Samsung phones do?

I've not seen any random reboots on either of my phones.. I do remember my P7P having one reboot on a one off.. I don't think there is anything to be concerned about but obviously keep your eyes on it which I know you will be doing..

do you mean for software updates? I am pretty sure it does. I am not sure though that any software updates from the PlayStore require reboots? I thought that was mainly for system updates and the like?

I don't think there is anything to worry about either. Just wanted to see if this happened to anyone else.
Then if there is any issues with my P8P it is isolated to my device and I can get it replaced.

Not defending Google in any way but in past Pixel releases I recall like the December or January update being the one that really smooths out the phone works out all the kinks, etc...

On my Samsung phones they have an option to automatically restart on a schedule. I think it’s in the maintenance or optimization settings. Not sure if the Pixel has that same option.

No issues here on the P8P. If it doesn't do it again I'd just consider it an anomaly and not worry about it. Like you, I've had my 15PM reboot spontaneously a couple times overnight, but have not had it happen in a while. I wouldn't be too concerned unless it is something that becomes a persistent issue.

Oh I see what you mean now. But none of my phones are set to reboot on a schedule. This was the first time it has done it.

Those are my thoughts too. I am not concerned about it. it just surprised me as it sat next to me and rebooted lol.

I'm having some issues with the heart rate sensor on the Pixel Watch 2. When going for walks it sometimes shows 150-170 BPM. My AW Series 7 shows 75-85 at the same time which I think is accurate.

How tight should the watch be on the wrist? When resting it seems very accurate.

Unprompted reboots can sometimes be linked to background updates or software hiccups. If it doesn't happen often, it might just be a one-time thing. But if it becomes a recurring issue, resetting the phone could help. Fingers crossed it's just a rare glitch
