Got some hands on time with a friends Pixel 8 Pro, really solid hardware, felt great to hold, really vibrant screen.

Only two aspects I don't love (and these are just subjective personal preferences); the curved rails or the finish of the highly polished metal camera visor. The frame feels just like the iPhone 11 Pro which felt like a slippery bar of soap. It's not bad, just not my preference. Same goes for the visor--looks nice but I think a matte finish would look better.

Really nice, well built device otherwise.
Yeah, Google really should have brushed or blasted the aluminum frame on the Pro. Would have looked so much better. But we all know it is a way to separate the pro and non pro.

I actually really like the curved side rails. Makes the phone so easy to hold.

Feels the most solid and premium of any Pixels in the last few years in my opinion.

I have a Ringke clear matte case coming from Amazon tomorrow. It was $14, and I have liked the feel and grip of those cases on past phones.

I'm just upset that Mous and a $70 case has such poor ordering process so far, with no updates on shipping. Now I feel dumb spending so much on a case, I'll probably like that Ringke case more LOL.

Cases are weird. At most they should cost like $5 to make. Most of the cost is R&D. Plastic is cheap.

But a good case can make your phone look better and protect it and save your wallet.

So if you think $70 is not much to protect a $1000 phone and that is how they get you. They can justify the cost by saying isn't $70 worth it if it protects your phone?

But if you look at it from a production and materials standpoint then $70 for a piece of plastic is insane. But if the product is truly great and the customer service is good then it can be worth it.

I bought a couple of Zagg cases on sale for $10 last year that normally cost $50 and one developed a tear. I told customer service and sent a picture. They sent me out a new case within a week. That was impressive. Made me think that if I bought a Zagg case at full price it might not be too bad since they stand behind the product.

So if Mous costs a lot and has terrible customer service then that is not looking good. It could just be higher demand than expected and once they catch up they will have good customer service.

The Rinke Fusion case is nice. It has a raised lip at the front screen and protection for the cameras. The polycarbonate back is frosted. The case has yellowed just a bit. But overall an excellent case.

Good luck either way and look forward to your feedback on the case itself.

At the end of the day you can still return it, so I am sure everything will work out in the end.

I will say the grip and feel of clear tpu case is just the best, it sticks in your palm like your Spiderman holding it LOL If it's laying on your seat it doesn't slide off, or fall of the couch cushion as you move. The clear cases are almost sticky, but don't move, they feel great to hold. But the look or style of that type of case, there's no stealth mode with the shiny looking sides of the case.

But, they yellow

You almost have to plan to buy a new $14 case every couple months just to keep it clean

I got a Ringke Fusion case as well from Amazon. Send them a note and they should replace it if it started yellowing.

I don't know, these Mous cases look like a damaged phone waiting to happen.

I like thin and light cases but these have gaps that concern me and it is just polycarbonate so how much impact can it really absorb? Corner hit?

I will be really interested in the type of protection these cases provide in real life and hope I am pleasantly surprised!

Yea definitely for scratch protection and makes it easier to place down not worrying about small dings …that along with the screen protector is enough for me …but I always have a few cases for phones but this one will be my main for slimness

I'm on my 3rd Pixel, never had a random reboot.
I ordered the ultra slim case directly from Mous on the 18th, it's the 20th and haven't heard anything since. I got an order # right away when I placed it, but nothing since. Clicking the support link in my gmail didn't work, and going to their website seemed rather weird, my e-mail didn't show up in their system.

I had to go to the support page, and they say it will take 3 days to reply to e-mails. WTF? For an expensive $69 thin case there customer support seems pretty lacking, I get better support and tracking from Amazon on cheap $9 cases. I typically never spend this much on cases, for $70 this better be good, and I better be able to track my freaking order easier, without needing to e-mail their support page.
$69 is crazy for a case,..... Thought I saw today in the Google store they are $44.99 as I was looking to see if the Google cases went down yet like the trade in values have.

A P7 trade in is only $190 now. I got $325.

Changed my home screen to the classic Pixel home screen of the last couple years

The 4x5 just seems to look better on these large screens. Samsung has been doing that with One UI lately and looks good.

I may have missed it, but is anyone using nova launcher on this thing? Right now I'm stock with using the 3 burn in navigation buttons. Not sure nova works? One reason I'm thinking is just to get rid of the search bar I'm not interested in using, and to clean up the screen some.

Probably a bit off topic, but the pixel buds, will they work on the XL 2? I'm still trying to work them into the rotation and can't really see using them out of the house but if the 8 becomes the main line, it's an upstairs device since it won't work in the lower areas of the house.

I'm using Nova and it works just fine. Using the gestures, not buttons.

Does anyone know why the date and weather displays twice and how to get rid of one of them? I don't know what I did, but I don't remember this being here before.

So whilst I love this phone, the camera is a real strange one for me at the moment.
I seen someone in Twitter refer to it as having a "zombie like filter" and I totally get it and it's exactly what I am finding too.
Everything just looks washed out and devoid of colour.

I thought this earlier in the week and even took an iPhone side by side to compare and there was a stark difference, but when I uploaded them I didn't bother posting as it didn't seem quite as bad as when first took them.

It's strange. I think having a direct comparison with the iPhone probably hasn't helped as it just means I have something direct to compare with and the Pixel always looks worse.

I started to take a photo of something I'd baked to show my sister's last night and the minute I fired the pixel camera up I was like, nope, and grabbed my iPhone instead.
Very strange.

I find the white balance is one of the biggest weaknesses of the Pixel camera. Most of the time it’s fine, but often it will get it really wrong and go either really cool or really warm. The picture of the pumpkin above seems to have made everything orange.

I’ve returned my Pixel 8, I’m just not that impressed with it overall. Some fundamentals are not polished.
