Phones in general just don't get me excited anymore except maybe the foldable devices. What I do love about the 8 Pro is it is a huge improvement over the 7Pro with regards to hardware and I like what they are doing with the assistant, AI, camera, etc. This is by far my favorite device to use. The pixel experience has always been my favorite and it's better on this device than any other pixel.
Don't get me wrong, I'm keeping it and I'm very happy with it but the hype has gone and if I could be bothered I might have returned it just to get something else, I switch phones way too often lol.

But at the same time, my husband just upgraded to the S23 Ultra and I'm kinda drooling a bit over it... ugh
My friend just got one, this is now me lol.

I have a S23 Ultra, and it's a good phone, but they all lose there hype after awhile. I am still liking the Pixel phone, but I've only had it since Wednesday. I don't plan on returning it.

I'm thinking about buying it. Can you tell me if it's worth the price and provide details about its camera quality?
It is worth the price. Especially if you have a trade in to kind of offset the price :)

I think the camera quality is right up there near the top of the smartphone space along with the iPhone 15 PM and S23 Ultra.

Anyone ditch their case yet? Feels so good in the hand. 🤩
Might feel good however, the risk of damage is too high imo

I've witnessed others shatter their screens (on all types of mobile phones) over a number of years due to a distracted or errant drop, sidewalk stumble, etc.

Best one of all was the day one of my colleagues was trading in to upgrade. His old phone slipped out of his hand as he was getting in his car to go to a local Apple store. It landed face down under his car and the screen shattered.

He ended up purchasing the new phone full price, getting the screen replaced on his old one and selling it at a reduced price.

Dropping a phone in a case provides at least some added level of protection.

I've always used my phone's without a case, usually only using one for 2-4 weeks when the phone is brand new.

No problems here. I'm happy to say the "face id" (provided there is enough light) and fingerprint id has worked really flawlessly for me.
Quite satisfied with this device.
That's one improvement I often forget about on this phone. How well the face unlock works. Still obviously not as good as FaceID on the iphone or Soli on the Pixel 4XL, but it's great to finally have a face unlock that works again. Still hating Google's decision to drop Soli on the Pixel line. It was flawless.

Same. This is the smoothest experience I've seen on a Pixel. Honestly have more stutters while scrolling on my 15 Pro Max and I don't exactly experience it often on that device either.
Yeah, i've seen the same in reverse albeit with an iPad vs P8P. It depends on who wrote the App and what platform it was designed around. I use a grocers mobile App and it is beyond terrible on any Android device including the P8P and Samsung devices. It stutters, has janky scrolling but use it on an iOS device and it is really smooth. So my impression is that the grocers mobile App was written for iOS and ported to Android.

The same applies to videogames as well.

Well, I'm ashamed to say it, but I caved...

It took a long time to come to the decision and figure out the process as I haven't done much of this type of stuff in a while...

And most people won't because they accept the device for what it is, and that's ok but I got a problem and I couldn't leave well enough alone and might have some masochistic tendencies...

Bootloader unlocked and rooted!

I've not experienced jankiness or anything but I know some members on our other forum have experienced it ..

Nope. This mous case is very slim and feels really good. As much as I like the feel without a case I'm going to keep it covered up just in case.
Slim Mous case indeed ... I'm probably one that doesn't like the phone caseless...I don't like the one handed feel on the sides plus I don't want to have to pay attention every time I place the phone down ..it's going to get scratched which will drive me nuts

One thing I've noticed is the location icon has been on for a while... Also noted this with my 3a a few days ago, not sure if something is going on with Google or what.

Edit, I guess it was Google app using it, was sat to always on (uh, why?!) So changed it to only when using the app...

Still there...

Back to that article about jank or stutters? I actually do see a very little bit of this, but mostly when unlocking the phone, when the AOD black screen lights up the wallpaper to show the full clock and it's about to unlock the phone, right there that black transition to the colored wallpaper and the clock changing from white in the AOD, to then the color clock, I do see some minor miscrostutters for a split second.

And just sometimes, very rarely, when closing an app and opening another, I might see super split second stutter.

My Wife still hasn't taken the smaller Pixel 8 yet, so I still play with it, and have it setup almsot identically to my 8 Pro, and the smaller 8 does not show that AOD lock screen to fade into unlocking, that minor jank I get on the 8 Pro is not there at all on the 8.

Now this is not a deal breaker or making me change my opinion on the Pixel 8 Pro whatsoever, I LOVE this phone, and know that in a patch or two this will get ironed out. But honest thoughts are, the smaller Pixel 8 just seems ever so slightly smoother for some odd reason, it's barely noticeable, the difference, but swiping through apps, opening and closing them, go into settings, and exit and fade out, etc... the Pixel 8 is just a tad smoother and more fluid than the 8 Pro, from what I see.

Jank and stutters. 😂 Lol. When has the very first release of any Pixel been 100% big free and completely optimized? What software is perfect the day it is released?

As others have mentioned after a couple of updates we should get any kinks ironed out. I never judge any phone on release software. I judge it if they don't fix it. In my personal experience with Pixel phones is they start out a little flaky and then get really smooth after a while.

My Pixel 7 Pro was pretty good from day one but some hiccups were there and when I sold my 7 Pro it was running really good. It didn't take a year but the release of Android 14 was a major boost to efficiency and performance.

Honestly, I am pretty impressed with the work Google did behind the scenes to change how the system uses ram and optimization to Google run time. These changes have breathed new life into any device that gets updated.

Comparatively speaking, iOS 16 when it came out was a mess and killed battery life on my 13 Pro Max. Apple did the opposite of Google making their devices that were updated to perform worse in efficiency.

If Google was able to make such a big improvement to Android then Apple and Microsoft could do the same thing. In my personal opinion the best software is software that runs hardware most efficiently. That is optimization and Apple used to be famous for it. Also if Google can optimize all of Android they can optimize their own hardware even better.

So to anyone who notices software issues now, just give it some time and I believe most of the issues will be resolved.

With that all being said I don't really notice any micro stutters. So far the Pixel 8 Pro has been butter smooth and an obvious improvement over the 7 Pro. YMMV of course.

It is interesting that the Pixel 8 seems smoother than the Pro? I don't doubt your observations. It is just one of those head scratchers. Lol

That you describe there is not jankiness or stutters that's the animations.. what do you have the animation set at? Try putting on my 0.5x see how you exit out of some of those apps and the lock screen..also did you set face ID on both phones ?

So I had my phone charging inside my upstairs apartment. Went outside into a courtyard and sat at some tables in the middle. My Pixel watch 2 without cell enabled got a call. The Bluetooth range is impressive and clear.

I was able to use my watch as my phone with the phone pretty far away and indoors.

So far the Pixel watch 2 has been pretty impressive. The heart rate monitor seems a little on the high side. Need to test more.

Anyone here got a Pixel watch 2 with their pre order? What has your experience been?

Rate monitor has been on the high side of my end as well as it sits in a sealed box waiting to be sold with no buyer in sight smh
