Settling back in on the 4x5 grid layout, keeping that stock Pixel design for my home screen, the colors pop, and everything looks super sharp.

Im not a photographer so i think the camera is just fine. Pretty good actually. The iPhone imo is far behind Android in many aspects
I’m not either but I can tell when photos have off colour. It’s not in all instances, but I’ve used Pixels long enough to know when something feels off and it definitely does at the moment for me.

So.... Starting to ponder a return on the device. I can't seem to get into it nor excited I got it. It's pretty much been sitting on the table since it's initial set up (still not totally set up). :(

It seems like a nice phone but I'm meh on it, possibly because I don't think I should have gotten it at all for myself.

Another option is to root, another to pass the device onto a family member but it's probably too much phone for them.

Maybe another day or so on my days off to decide.

Other news the pixel buds pro seem decent and work on my XL 2...

Lol I just don’t think you want to ever part with your Pixel 2 so you may as well just keep it til it dies. Then buy another when it does 😜😂

LOL 😆 could be. It's actually one of the last rooted devices I got. Maybe that's what is holding me back on upgrades 🤔

Actually also could be that most of these new devices and computers are just nothing but ad supported data mining tamagotchi device, computers included.... I might be getting old lol

Pixel 2? I'd think that is a dinosaur compared to the 8.
Also, if you return a phone, do you have to return the buds too?
I would think so.

If you haven't even finished setting up then I most certainly think there was no reason for you to buy the phone... I would start from scratch with a rooted phone and see if that triggers your excitement.. otherwise sounds like a return to me..

I will admit, the Pixel 8 Pro hype has died for me and it's just another phone now. If I'd bought it from Amazon I'd probably have YOLO returned it. 😂
Phones in general just don't get me excited anymore except maybe the foldable devices. What I do love about the 8 Pro is it is a huge improvement over the 7Pro with regards to hardware and I like what they are doing with the assistant, AI, camera, etc. This is by far my favorite device to use. The pixel experience has always been my favorite and it's better on this device than any other pixel.

This is exactly the way I feel... This phone has definitely been a nice improvement over previous Pixel phones.. It does everything better than any other Google phone and I see it daily with my Pixel Fold..the Fold obviously is a different style and I enjoy it but using them side by side the P8P is always a step or two ahead ...

It is interesting to see different reactions to a device. I am glad we have some people who may not just love the Pixel 8/pro. It is good to see from different perspectives.

Personally though I don't see what isn't to like? I mean if you have a s23u or 15 Pro Max and want to be "wowed" by the Pixel I don't see it happening. You may prefer one thing or another on any of them but I don't think any of them are much better than another. If I was going to judge best phone of the year it would be a tie between the S23U and P8P.

Of the phones I listed I think the Pixel 8 Pro is the most improved device year over year. That being said, if you had a Pixel 7 Pro you might not see the changes until you really start to use the phone. The difference is in the details.

To me, coming from the P7P there are several differences that I prefer on the P8P.

I prefer the shape of the P8P, the flatter screen, the brighter screen, better auto brightness, faster performance, better thermals, much better battery life, better speakers, slightly better cameras, better colors. Honestly, I think Google really did a lot to make the Pixel 8 Pro a better phone on almost every way. BUT those are design improvements and refinement not a radical change up.

To me, the Pixel 8 Pro is the best version of a Pixel I have ever used. Could it be better still? Of course. I would prefer ufs 4.0 and 256gb base storage. I would have appreciated a 10x zoom at 48mp. I would have preferred 16gb ram at this point. The Tensor G3 could be faster. Google should have used a vapor chamber cooling system.

But honestly those seem like nit picks and it probably would have raised the cost of the phone too close to the competition and Google still needs a price advantage as they don't have a solid reputation in the high end space.

I don't think any of the compromises made this year actually detract from the user experience. The hardware is just about on equal footing with the competition and that is a first for Google. They have room to improve but considering the lower cost of the Pixel line comparative to the competition I think they made the best phone they could.

So whilst I love this phone, the camera is a real strange one for me at the moment.
I seen someone in Twitter refer to it as having a "zombie like filter" and I totally get it and it's exactly what I am finding too.
Everything just looks washed out and devoid of colour.

I thought this earlier in the week and even took an iPhone side by side to compare and there was a stark difference, but when I uploaded them I didn't bother posting as it didn't seem quite as bad as when first took them.

It's strange. I think having a direct comparison with the iPhone probably hasn't helped as it just means I have something direct to compare with and the Pixel always looks worse.

I started to take a photo of something I'd baked to show my sister's last night and the minute I fired the pixel camera up I was like, nope, and grabbed my iPhone instead.
Very strange.
Not going to lie, I did notice the "zombie" effect, too. 🫤
Probably something with the settings I'm sure I touched that I wasn't supposed to LOL.
But at the same time, my husband just upgraded to the S23 Ultra and I'm kinda drooling a bit over it... ugh.

I have taken a few shots in different settings and color accuracy is really good. Saturated but not artificial. No zombies here? I do have the Pixel 8 Pro so I don't know if it is something just on the Pixel 8 or not but I don't see anything like it on mine?

The s23 ultra is a great phone no doubt. I would say that you both have the best phones on the market. What I can say is as much as I love the S23U, there is just something I like more about the Pixel.

If there is an issue with the camera I have a pretty strong suspicion that Google will fix it in an update. We have not had any major updates yet so I am sure a lot of bugs will be squashed in the next few months.

That being said, maybe you could borrow the s23u from your significant other once he has it for a while and test it for yourself. You will be able to find a lot of deals in the next few months before the s24 ultra comes out early next year. So it might end up being a better deal with the S23U?

But to all the people who got their phone and they are still in the return period and didn't get any freebies and are on the fence I would keep the phone for 10 days and use it exclusively. Then if you are still on the fence it's probably a good idea to return it. There will be holiday sales for the Pixel too. So there will be another chance if you ultimately want a Pixel.

Is Google still charging a $35 restocking fee? In the past regardless of the reason, if you sent it back they docked you $35. I plan on keeping my 8 Pro, i'm just asking for those that may have buyers remorse.

Yeah I spent the last few pixel releases hem a d hawing and finally submitted and went for it only to just go, "meh, I didn't really *need* a new device"

I actually kicked around the idea of getting the 7a and the hub or I mean pixel "tablet " instead.

I've been looking into seeing about rooting and maybe I'd feel a little more connected with the device.

@Heat_Fan89 I believe they will charge a restocking fee and why not? If I did return it, it'd be used so I could understand. I thought it was a little more?

Anyway still debating 🤔

I'm pretty happy with my P8. The issues I frowned about the P7, this fixes those. Still...the fingerprint sensor Could be better but this one is better than the 7.

I love Samsung phones but don't want to pay their prices any longer unless they have a great deal and i wasnt finding trade ins as good. But then, I don't get OS updates like I will with the Pixel....and I very much disliked their edge screens. Haven't had one since the GS9 so don't know if that's still a thing.

I do not have a desk job or have to use a computer for work at all,.... so these little extras you guys that do and talk about are cool but aren't a factor for me. I don't need a S Pen. Have one for my Galaxy tab 7 but don't really need it or use it. I could sparingly for some things like circling something on a picture and such and send it to someone,.....but not needing it makes me not sure HOW to use it lol.

At some point though, I would like to have/try a flip I think. Saw a video of one on YouTube ( by Mrwhosetheboss or something) but it wasnt a Samsung or a Motorola brand. Think it was a Techno. Seemed cool and was only $699. Much cheaper than theirs.

EDIT....this one

Tecno sells the device probably at cost to get a share of the market. Since the CCP subsidizes a lot of these companies they can afford to operate without much profit. Once you get the device it is data mining and will probably get few major updates if any at all. Want the next version of Android then buy the newer device. Rinse and repeat.

The appeal of cheap tech is strong believe me. I used to buy cheap Chinese phones from Umidigi, Xoaomi, and so many others. They are fun as a novelty item and to see progress but as a daily driver, forget it. On one device it has only the cellular bands for 2g data 😂 Lol.

If you want to throw $700 away then go for it. Samsung can be expensive but the support of having a secure, updated device is worth the cost. Of course with Samsung it is all about timing, promotions and sales. Sometimes you make out like a thief and sometimes Samsung gets their cash. Motorola has a lot of work to do. So sad to see the state of the once great Motorola. But they still make decent budget devices. Updates are a problem though.

When I returned my 7 pro last year opened, (only to buy it again a bit later), I never got charged anything.

That's good to know. I remember back around the Pixel 6 they were charging $35 because I received a defective phone and I thought about getting a refund and the chat person told me there would be a $35 restocking fee so I accepted the replacement.
