Question for those that stick to the stock launcher, are you running the grid of 4x5 or 5x5?
4x5 for me.

I actually bought a new phone! 😲

After lots of indecision from almost every recent pixel...

Hopefully it doesn't let me down. Probably won't get to set up tonight with late delivery and early morning. Still not sure which line this is going to replace.

256gb model. Wanted the bay but I think those just went out to influencers

So out an about in different parts of the city I live in. Went to an office my s23 ultra gets poor reception and the Pixel 8 Pro is pulling in a better signal. Phone isn't heating up crazy. Pretty impressive.

I can't wait to see how much better everything gets after a couple of updates to further optimize the Pixels.

So far, it feels kind of like deja vu. The Pixel 6 which I never bought due to the many issues then the 7 comes out and resolved a lot of the Pixel 6 issues while it seems the Pixel 8 is resolving a lot of the Pixel 7 issues.

From this point on it will probably be only refinement. They have a winning formula. Keep pushing it forward.

Nice. Google has been slowly evolving the Pixel design. This year is the first year where the hardware doesn't have any limits. Of course there are some compromises but they are few and far between and the things that most people are complaining about are from the Pixel 7 and 6. The 8 is on another level. The Tensor is finally good and the Samsung modem seems much more efficient and much improved reception. Battery life has greatly improved and thermals are much better. The screen is incredible and the speakers are loud, full of bass and just sound a lot better than last year.

I am partial to Bay. It is my favorite color of the year for cell phones.

I hope you enjoy your device. I think you made an excellent choice and at the perfect time. 7 years of updates???

Let us know your thoughts and impressions once you get comfortable with it. Love to hear more opinions!

Good critical review.

However, most of his complaints will be fixed and updated.

His complaints about the thermals are true but a bit exaggerated. Yes, you can push the Tensor G3 to overheat and become almost unresponsive but you really have to push it to do so.

His complaints about raw performance are true but again a bit of an exaggeration. Overall raw performance is still flagship level and fast but maybe not as fast as a17 or 8 gen 2 but faster than the 8 gen 1.

Hopefully Google is listening to the camera software limitations and Google changes those over time.

Bear in mind this guy is an Apple fanboy

Anyone in the UK got the hold for me setting? Also the delete OTP after 24 hours and direct my call setting? I don't have any of these, only call screen. :(

The official case was very good the first few days but now it's covered in dust. Will it get less sticky after a while?

I've been looking at the Bellroy leather case but there are some mixed reviews.

What is that ClockView, I can’t find it on the play store.
Stumbled upon it years back... it's one of my all time fav apps.

Samsung phone users can plaster it on the AOD screen using the Lock Star app (which is still a little too buggy for my taste). I use the default analog AOD lockscreen clock and ClockView on my home screen.

We were commenting about battery life on another forum.. I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised with the battery life on this phone.. I don't play any games I know some have mentioned that it drains while playing some of the games.. I would expect that to happen with most phones I guess.. another thing in standby mode it sips along nicely....

I've had Bellroy leather cases for the 6a, 7, 7 Pro and 7a. I now have a haze coloured Bellroy leather case for my Pixel 8. They are good cases and don't add much bulk to the phone. I think they fit nicely around the camera bar without interfering with the Pixel design ethic like some cases do. I really can't think of one negative, to be honest - unless you're expecting a leather case to be 100% leather. The Bellroy cases are the leather version of the Google cases - so if you like the official case but prefer leather then Bellroy is the answer.

Couple photos of my super great dog Midnight. Trying on a hat for winter time. These were not portrait shots. I probably took a dozen and these are the only good ones. You've got about half a second to get a good dog picture before she moves her head.

Got the phone partially set up and trying to get into things. It's a totally different experience but I've been daily driving the 2xl since I got it. Kind of freaked out when I went into the play store and it wanted me to re buy all my apps! Guess it needed a bit to catch up.

The camera bar is a little awkward right now from a handling standpoint. Right now I haven't put a sim card in still debating on which line.

I checked cases out on Amazon and didn't see anything I liked. Thing is pretty slippery. Has a solid feel to it.

Got some updates to do on it.

So far I'm still not sure if I should have picked it up however...

I ordered the ultra slim case directly from Mous on the 18th, it's the 20th and haven't heard anything since. I got an order # right away when I placed it, but nothing since. Clicking the support link in my gmail didn't work, and going to their website seemed rather weird, my e-mail didn't show up in their system.

I had to go to the support page, and they say it will take 3 days to reply to e-mails. WTF? For an expensive $69 thin case there customer support seems pretty lacking, I get better support and tracking from Amazon on cheap $9 cases. I typically never spend this much on cases, for $70 this better be good, and I better be able to track my freaking order easier, without needing to e-mail their support page.

I am sorry to hear about your experience.

Personally for those who are thinking about cases, might I suggest you just get any cheap case until you make a final decision.

Rinke Fusion case is great for those who want to show the colors of the phone. The Caseology cases are good, like the nano pop and others.

You can find a decent cheap case for around $15. Worth it if you drop it. I already dropped mine with the Rinke case and no issues.

Just go on Amazon and search for your model. Spigen, Rinke, Caseology, are all solid choices on a budget.

Got some hands on time with a friends Pixel 8 Pro, really solid hardware, felt great to hold, really vibrant screen.

Only two aspects I don't love (and these are just subjective personal preferences); the curved rails or the finish of the highly polished metal camera visor. The frame feels just like the iPhone 11 Pro which felt like a slippery bar of soap. It's not bad, just not my preference. Same goes for the visor--looks nice but I think a matte finish would look better.

Really nice, well built device otherwise.

I don't know, these Mous cases look like a damaged phone waiting to happen.

I like thin and light cases but these have gaps that concern me and it is just polycarbonate so how much impact can it really absorb? Corner hit?

I will be really interested in the type of protection these cases provide in real life and hope I am pleasantly surprised!
