So any updates? Of course not, still haven't shoved a sim card in from either of my ancient devices, in fact it's still been sitting on a table with me periodically glancing at it or wondering if I should have stuck a sim in and brought the thing to work so I could actually try it out...

Yesterday I pulled up the order and have a few days left on the return period and actually ran through the thought process of returning the device back to stock, locking it back up and pressing the return button on the order page...

I used to be big on phones and gadgets but now I've lost interest big time with them. I thought the P8P would rekindle things, even go as far as rooting but it's been very difficult to get back into things.

It's not just the P8P either, none of these devices I look at seems to do it for me... 😖

Well I've been having very sporadic random reboots did it yesterday while charging, which is now the 3rd time it's rebooted since getting the Pixel 8 Pro on launch.

Everything upto date play store ect, and after doing abit of searching it seems to be a common problem plenty post about it on reddit with both the Pixel 8 & 8 Pro suffering from random reboots some alot worse than mine.

One suggestion is to turn off the always on display as that seem's to be a problem for some which has fixed it for them, for other though it seem to be hardware failure that causing their phones to reboot.

So now not sure what to do, do i return it and having to go though the full setup process again, only for it to potentially happen again, or do i sit tight and hopefully it's a bug that Google will fix with the November update. :/

If you truly think you have an issue and don't want to deal with returning them Google will generally replace the device once. After that they will only repair. They won't offer to replace only repair. You will have to ask for a replacement and may have to escalate to a supervisor.

I think that would be the best approach in your situation.

I didn't buy it from Google as where i bought it from i can just nip in and exchange it same day if they have it in stock, they have a 30 day no quibble return policy.

Neither me or my Wife have had this issue. We both have the P8.

We did have the issue on Samsung tablets before and they had to be replaced by Samsung, but it took sending them back three times with no fix to get replacements. It wasn't a day today thing, it was less than an a hour to hour thing. Made the tablet un usable and we were well past our 2 week period.

I'd send the phone back if you are in your 2 week period and get another.

well...i returned my P8P yesterday. Not going to say anything negative about the phone. It is an awesome device.
In the end my personal preference was the S23U and 15 PM combo.
I hope everyone enjoys their Pixels and look forward to reading everyone's experiences with the phone!
How DARE you return the phone and post about it when others are basking in their enjoyment of this device?!
🤪.
In seriousness I feel you. When you get a winning combo or single device that’s just fulfilling what you need then why bother trying to make something else fit?! 👍🏻

I bought an iPhone 15 Pro on launch day and when out on a cycle ride I tried to take some photos like this but the phone just refused to focus on the subject, even clicking on the screen didn't help. I ended up not being able to capture a decent photo at all. Did this yesterday with my Pixel 8 and had an immediate positive result. Such a difference. The 'it just works' moniker of iPhones is wearing very thin these days.

I'm sorry to hear you have an issue... I would do a factory reset on your current phone.. and see if it's continuing... Do a return if it appears again.. I know it's a pain to set up new again..

So this weird colour issue I'm seeing with my 8 Pro....
This is random, but I'm wondering if anyone else can check if this happens for them.

I take a photo, it looks washed out but if I swipe up from the bottom slowly to go to the open app list, the picture changes colour and looks like it SHOULD, as in, it has the colour in that i'd expect the finished photo to have.
When I swipe back down to go back to the photo it goes back to being the same washed out palette as before.

I hope that makes sense?
I've tried screen shotting but it doesn't show the colour it does when I'm peaking out of the app unless I try and screen record the issue as it's driving me mad.

Can anyone else try and see? Snap a photo, click it in viewfinder to open it and then swipe up from the bottom slowly to show all apps... Does the colour change?

It's probably the same thing as this HDR thing going on with the Google photos app where some photos brighten up...
I’m assuming it’s HDR related too. It doesn’t make sense that photos don’t have colour they should in the app though.

So I am now the owner of a blue p8p. I like it so far aside from a weird screen glitch when unlocking, but it's had an update since, and doesn't seem to be an issue now.
Congrats welcome to the P8 family...hope you enjoy it like most of us...

I love my blue Pixel.

As a tip that may or may not be useful or you may already do is to reset the device on first boot. I would boot into recovery and then reset the phone before even setting the device up for the first time.

Sometimes I have witnessed on laptops and phones that somehow in the manufacturing process after they install the OS that it can get errors or corruption from the point of manufacture to the point of first boot up. A lot of new devices over the years has odd glitches brand new. I started doing a reset or complete wipe and restore as soon as I get it. Since doing this it has reduced the amount of odd glitches to a point that generally if they are there it is either a known issue or a hardware glitch.

Doing it before setup makes it easier and faster. Then I start with a clean slate so to speak. I have been doing this with Android, iOS, iPadOS, Windows, etc. It seems to help these odd random software issues that can sometimes arise.

Bit late for that now, but thanks for the tip for next time, since it installed the update it's not happened again so hopefully it's resolved, I think it was just an annimation bug/glitch.
