Darn. My lack of patience is going to cause me to make a poor decision. Get the PF in 2 weeks or wait 8 weeks for the One Plus which I strongly suspect will be a better device TBH although the form factor is closer to the Z Fold. Decisions, decisions.
You really should wait. It's not that far off.

I'm waiting for the GF5 and OPVF to be released to make a decision. I've ruled out the GPF.

The only thing I can think of that might make the One Plus a better device is the SD8 Gen 2. If the One Plus is in the form factor of a Z Fold 4/5, there's nothing there to really make it a compelling device to me. Not that I don't love my ZF4, but I think Google got it right with the form factor of the PF. I am not a fan of the Tensor chips and I do wish Google would move toward the high end snapdragon chips, but man this device is just so nice. I'm just getting it set up but can already tell I love the form more than I do the ZF4. Will see how I feel about the software and overall experience after using it a few days.

The OPVF should have a wider outer screen than the GF5.

OnePlus Fold outside screen will be wider than the Fold4/5. Basically, it's what we wanted in the Fold5 -- a wider screen. But it just won't be as wide as the Pixel Fold.

Verge just wrote an article on the screen failures on the Pixel Fold.

I hope this is just a small subset of users.

I would really like to see Google be successful in this space.

In regards to the other foldable phones coming out with the Snapdragon 8 gen 2. The SD 8 gen 2 is one of the best chipsets Qualcomm has made in a long time. After the 8 gen 1 they needed a win and they did it.

The 8 gen 3 looks to be another winner.

How many years has Qualcomm been producing mobile chipsets? How long has Apple? How long has Google?

Do you see where I am going with this? Sure you can buy a phone based on a chipset or based on specs but that doesn't make the phone a good product.

How long has Google been making Pixel phones with lackluster chipsets and they still perform great?

Google just like Apple understands how important software optimization and integration with your own silicon and hardware is.

Give Google a few more years and if they continue to put enough resources in the Tensor it will pay off just like with Apple and A series chips.

So while the Oppo or OnePlus may have a better chipset on paper it doesn't necessarily translate into a better experience. The only exception here would be Samsung because they have been working really hard on their foldable phones for several years now and they have done a good job optimizing their software.

I think the Pixel Fold being a gen 1 product is going to have it's issues but the Pixel Fold 2 and 3 will probably be seriously great if Google continues to put in resources. For now foldable phones are a expensive niche. It is possible over time this will change. Price may come down once most of the kinks are ironed out and they become more mainstream and more mass produced.

For now there are braver souls richer than I pushing this category of phones forward. They will encounter issues but as long as they are in warranty they should be okay.

After using a Pixel 7, the UI is so good that having that UI on a foldable just seems really cool. Sure if I were in the market I could get the competition but for me it is the software that will make a foldable at this stage of these devices much more appealing and no one beats Google.

Quick initial thoughts:

Beautiful device. The bezels aren't as distracting as I thought they'd be. They look worse in photos to be honest. I'm not quite understanding the complaints about it not opening 180 degrees or fully flat. Seems to open flat very easily for me. Love the outer display. Much better than the narrow display of the Samsung Fold. Crease is about the same, maybe slightly less pronounced than the Z Fold 4. For a 1st gen device, Google nailed it on the hardware side.

Software: Weeeelll....it's gonna take a bit of refinement which I'm sure will come via updates. I agree with many on the mirrored layout of the outer and inner display. Just terrible and probably my biggest complaint. I can't get it setup to my liking. This is not a deal breaker but sure hope things change via updates or in Android 14. I love the dock implementation and how easy it is to drag an app onto the screen to multitask. I'm not used to this with Google but right now the software has some catching up to do to match the beautiful hardware. It's definitely a premium device but the UI feels very much 1st gen. More to come later.

Got my device and have been playing with it while trying work haha.

It feels amazing in the hand!! I'm loving this form factor. As far as the software goes it's nice and the complaints about the fold specific stuff I'm sure will be ironed out with Android 14.

Haha. I posted about this earlier. It was $2,800 earlier, now he's at $2,598.

Which one of y'all posted your GPF for that amount? Hahaha.
Better have been the porcelain color cause isn't that the one with the farthest date?

Oh my gosh just decided to open tapatalk on the inner screen. Looks great!!
