Mate I live in Melbourne too and I too ordered a 15" 2.33 160GB but with 3GB ram and standard display and modem too. However I ordered mine Wednesday around 11am.

I too had the EXACT same dates as you, and I too just received an email saying it has shipped with the same dates as you

WOOOHOOOO I CAN'T WAIT :D

Ain't that funny! I actually ordered about an hour after you on Wednesday (I adjusted for EST since I figured most people wouldn't have a clue what Melbourne time meant! ;))

BTW I hope all those Chinese are getting paid overtime to ship our MBPs on a Saturday night!

Let me see... your MBP was going to ship out in February, was going to take 7 months to be delivered to you, and now it will get there in March...

I'm not impressed

P.S.

Sorry for Yankeeing (pun intended) your chain. More than half of the ppl on this board are from the US, where we put the month numeral before the day :D

LOL. Don't worry, i'm used to it for my workmates over there. I learnt long ago that it doesn't really matter that the rest of the world writes the dates the 'right' way round!

And hey, at least I converted the time to US EST - didn't want you people thinking i was getting special treatment or anything ;)

November Promises To Be One Of Apple's Biggest Release Months Ever

It's pretty likely the MacBooks will be updated before the holidays. Why not wait until then to make your choice. You don't get great value by comparing these new C2Ds with rumors and guesses about what kind of upgrades the MacBook will get.

I know it's hard, but it should only be a few more weeks!
November 2006

1. iPod Shuffle Ships Tuesday Halloween.

2. 17" MacBook Pro Ships November 3.

3. MacBook & mini both go C2D at same speeds as now w/1GB sticks standard RAM + Faster Processors Optional. 160GB HD Option added to C2D MacBook offerings. Apple will probably let you trick out a MacBook to 2.33GHz for a total of way more than $2k and a mini to way more than $1k. See iMac processor upgrade prices:

2 to 2.16GHz $100
2.16GHz to 2.33GHz $250
So my assumption would be 2 to 2.33GHz for around $350.

Now this projection is based on the idea Apple has figured out how to keep faster than 2GHz C2D cool inside each model - as in wider vents like in the MacBook Pro. If not, no speed upgrades can be offered.

4. Then the pièce de résistance 8-Core Dual Clovertown option is added to Mac Pro configure page with two 1GB Sticks going standard on all Mac Pros.

5. Consumer wild card could also happen.

All before Black Friday - November 24, 2006. :)

Anyone Can Sign For Your Delivery

Hey, if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated-
Im ready to pull the trigger on a macbook pro. Im at Uni, and Im ordering the computer to my home address. I dont really trust the delivery here at my student accomodation. BUT, when I come to order it says-

"Please note deliveries are made by carrier during business hours. You will need to be present to sign for your order. For your convenience, you may prefer to have your order delivered to your office address. Please note, if you choose this option, goods may be left with reception or the Goods Inwards Department."

Does this mean that only I can sign for the delivery, or is it ok if someone at home signs for it??

Any quick replies would be great- i want this thing ordered! :)

Thanks
Anyone can sign for it.

C2D MacBook Pro Has Wider Vents

How about the thermal issues? Any improvements with heat?
Yes it has visibly wider vents. From the new MBP C2D Service Manual:
"Wider venting than previous MacBook Pro."

Call Applecare For A Repair To Get 135º Opening

I was at my local apple store and was comparing the new C2D MBP with the old CD MBP side by side... I DO NOT SEE ANY IMPROVEMENT in the opening angle of new MBP compared to the old one... I don't know if both are 135 or if both are 120 but I can tell u for sure, they both have the same angle of opening... NO CHANGE...

This kinda sucks tho'... would have loved it open a bit more ;)
You may have been looking at a late MacBook Pro with 135º opening already added. 135º is HALF-WAY between vertical and horizontal. 45º above the desk. Go back and look again. If the new one isn't 135º go tell the genius bar.
From page 69 of the 17" MBP C2D user's manual:

Built-in Display

Adjust the angle of the display to minimize glare and reflections from overhead lights
and windows. Do not force the display if you meet resistance. The display is not meant
to open past 135 degrees.
So if you get one that doesn't open half-way between vertical and horizontal, you better call AppleCare and ask for a repair.

BRLawyer Order 2.16GHz 15" + Second 1GB Stick + 160GB HD

OK guys, I am almost putting the pedal to the metal and ordering the new MBP here in Switzerland...but I need your advice (those who received new MBPs already) on the following questions:

1 - Any quality issues identified so far, such as mooing/whining/shutdowns?

2 - What is the heat level of the new MBPs, especially in CPU-intensive apps and periods?

3 - Is there any difference between the 128 and the 256 GPU? I mean, for normal gaming/apps, nothing hardcore;

4 - Is 1Gb enough or should I order 2Gb? I am not a heavy user, relying instead on iApps, Office, Internet apps and perhaps some Parallels stuff...

Thanks in advance!
1 & 2. Has wider vents. Runs cooler. No Mooing. No shutdowns - that was a hardware design mistake fixed in this version.
3. No.
4. 1GB is never enough. OS X is a RAM hog.

Order 2.16GHz 15" + 1GB Stick - total 2GB +160GB HD.

If you want to save a little, third party RAM is only about $100-$120 per 1GB stick.

i still don't think that the MBP is a very game-oriented machine. 2-3 years down the line i can see myself using Photoshop and Logic Pro still, but for gaming I'd probably have to look elsewhere.

anyways, i really don't care anymore :p

I agree with that, it's not a game-oriented machine. Someone whose primary interest is gaming would be nuts to buy a MBP. But for someone who wants an MBP for other reasons, but also wants to play games, the point I'm making is that it is actually looking like a really good gaming performer.

Of course, talking about 2-3 years from now, even those high-end gaming behomoth laptops would be out of date. 2-3 years ago, state of the art was something like a laptop with a GeForce 6800 Go (introduced in late 2004). That was what you would find in the crazy 17" alienware machines, for example. Today that would be a pretty middling card, and the X1600 and GeForce Go 7600 both outperform it for the most part. 3 years ago something like the Mobility Radeon 9700 was pretty hot stuff, and today that thing would be outperformed frankly even by a MacBook with GMA950.

Ordered my new 2.33 GHz 15", and like several other peoples' it seems to have shipped early. Was supposed to arrive on November 6th, now it's scheduled for the first.

So excited! This thing will be replacing a 700 MHz iBook G3, so I'm in for quite the performance boost.

Both Mini and the MacBook will ship with 2 sticks of memory because of the intergrated graphics, so at most, you will see 2x512MB in them standard. Also, following the same pattern as before, the MacBook will most likely go up to 2.16GHz and the Mini's to 2.0GHz.

I Hope You're Right

Are two sticks needed to support the IG?

I don't see the mini going to 2GHz but if it does, and I hope you are right, that is going to be huge because the 4MB L2 Shared cache kicks in at 2GHz. I think it may be BTO only but I certainly hope I am wrong and you are right.

I would love to see these minis:

1.83GHz C2D 2MB L2 shared cache, 6x Superdrive, one 1GB stick $599
2GHz C2D 4MB L2 shared cache, 8x Superdrive, one 1GB stick $799

For +$200 you get 3 ways faster:

1. Processor is faster
2. SD is faster
3. Double L2 shared cache will make the 2GHz way faster

Tks a lot Multimedia, that's more or less what I thought as well...now I just need to click on that button and burn my bank account a bit...after all, the loan I expected from my organization is still low (due to my short time as an employee), so I can't buy my Mercedes SLK yet... ;)

I ordered my UK MacBook Pro 2.16 today. Went into the Regent St store and asked if it was in store yet to be told its not even been released. A trip to a free Mac Mini and i showed him it was available to order.

SO my order was placed and will be sent on 2nd Nov. It does say delivery due on or before 9th which is a whole WEEK after dispatch. With the apple site saying '3 business days' im hoping its sooner

So my first MBP died, and my new one came yesterday so I am comparing a week 30something to this C2D.

Yes it has visibly wider vents.

Hadn't noticed that, but yeah much wider. This thing is unbelievably cool. My previous MBP was warm, wouldn't burn me, could keep on lap on a cold night and be happy.

The C2D MBP is barely warm!! I haven't really pushed it, but with web, e-mail, itunes, word open it is no warmer than a 15 minute old cup of coffee (which is getting cold, I should drink up).

C2D MBP is a laptop again.

And now on a cold evening I am going to have to turn on the heat instead of working with my computer in my lap...oh well.
