Hi, i think youre completely right, a mac isnt a gamer platform, theyre not fast enough...
Lol when i saw alienware i decided to compare prices... Alienware is actually the most expensive!!
snip...
I think if you compare the current MBP to comparable Dell's and others this will be a similar trend. You might have to make some subjective adjustments (OS, size, battery, warrenty, etc.) but I think you wil see that the MBP is about the same cost as others.
This was the same case when the MBP was released. The gap widened around late May. This is when the others started cutting prices.
There are 2 different business ideas here:
1-Cut prices on the same prices over time for the same hardware
2-Add better hardware to the computer at the same price
The 2nd option makes more profit per machine since they are, at times, selling hardware that they are able to get cheaper than they using (since their suppliers opt for option 1). The 2nd option can only be successful if you are not under a lot of competition because if your prices are too high, if you have less competition, there aren't as many better alternatives. This approach wasn't a problem for Apple during the PPC days since the chips could not be directly compared. Now that they are using Intel chips approach 2 above is going to be harder since people can choose a Dell that has better hardware for the price Apple is asking. But, I think they will still be able to keep up sales because they have a devoted customer core and offer a superior operating system...but in time it might prove to be difficult.
