People shouldn't complain about new technologies coming out and making theres "obsolete" in some...non existent way. What's the difference if they came out with a new one now, or a new one 2 years from now? YOU STILL HAVE THE SAME DARN COMPUTER! Just someone else has something "better". It's a superiority complex really. Think of it like this. You buy a computer knowing that in a a few months it will be out dated, but you know yourself you are not updating for 2-3 years. Then you play your waiting game and choose, preferably right when it comes out, to purchase. That way you have the "latest and greatest" for the longest period of time! And to those of you who bought a MBP CD during october and are absolutely PISSED OFF at apple need to chill. Rumors of C2D macbook pro's were around since I think before august! And if every OTHER company says "oooo...we're coming out with C2D laptops!!" you better believe that apple won't be far behind. So the only person you can blame in this supposed "fiasco" is yourself for not doing any research. In your defense, however, I would suggest that if it is known by the public "something" is coming, then in all fairness apple should reduce their product by a couple hundred dollars or so to show that something new is coming out. That way people who need it now or want the cheaper deal won't complain when something new comes out within the following weeks. But, as I said before, if you DID your research you wouldn't be pissed off now would you?

Touche MM

Yeah we're on a real plateau. Intel is only releasing 64-bit Core 2 Quad Cores next month that can be paired to make 8-core Macs & PCs. Really flattening out. Nothin's going on. Bummer. :D

Perhaps with Intel stepping back up to plate things are ramping upwards again.

SAVE Page Will Sell Like New Refurbished Systems By January

Hi, sorry to sidetrack the Rick bashing, but I'm thinking of getting either a new MBP or MB (when they're released) and was wondering if anyone knows whether Apple has a tendency to lower prices after the holiday season? I'm not desperate for a computer in the next few weeks, so should I wait to see if there's a price drop in, say, January? Also, I'm a student, so will there be good deals around the beginning of the semester? (And by good deals, I mean something other than a 1gig ipod). Thanks.

-Alex
No but you can save buying from the SAVE page full of refurbished systems that are as good as new with a new warranty. Also MacWorld Expo Jan 9-12 in San Francisco will reveal lots of new offerings and deals.

But Apple does not change their prices very often. There may be an occasional 10% off day at the Apple Stores like on Black Friday - November 24 - for example.

The User Guide Is For Both 15" and 17" MacBook Pros

I don't think it's clear yet if the C2D User Guide is general for the 15" and 17" models, or specific for the 17". Although the title references both sizes, the content of the pdf specifically refers to the 17" model, and furthermore lists features that only the 17" model has (e.g., 3 USB ports).

I think it's hasty to tell another user to go call AppleCare to ask for a "repair." For all we know, maybe the new 17" MBP does indeed open up to 135° (fingers crossed).
The guide is for both 15" & 17" Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros - says so in the PDF title. I'm sure this is in response to those who complained about the 120º opening in Rev. A.

Well, if you put that much stock in a title, by all means go have a party. But it's strange that a search for the string "15-inch" returns no occurrences, and one for "17-inch" returns one, in addition to the 17"-specific features I mention.

MightyMike Please Tell Us The Maximum Opening Angle

You're right. Although the PDF is titled for both sizes, it is written for a 17" MBP. If Mike will post, we can settle this once and for all.

MightyMike? What's the max angle opening? 120º or One Third Past Vertical or 135º or Half Way Past Vertical toward horizontal? A lot of readers want to know MightyMike. Please.

Its official. No store in the DC metro are has received any 2.33 glossy sytems in as of today. This includes all of today's possible shipments.

So do I break down and get a 2.16 glossy? Supposedly those are available at PC or in MD or get a matte 2.33 (only one in the area that I have found)?

Zadillo: whatcha think?

I don't know, I think I'd give it a few days; no reason to get something less than what you want if it is going to be available in only a few days.

I almost got a 2.16 matte at tyson's today (the only one they had available), but decided to just give it some time, think it over, and then make a purchase decision when all options are available. I'd hate to get something just because it was the only thing available.

Welp, I bought a glossy 15" 2.16 base model. They have some more in stock in Sherman Oaks if anyone else is LA based...

I haven't opened it yet. I want to contemplate if the MB Pro is worth the extra money(for me) over the soon to be updated MacBooks. I also want to think about the glossy/matte thing for a bit. I was all super-glossy guy until everyone on this thread started questioning me! :D I looked at them in the store and the glossy still looks brighter and more vibrant to me, so I'll probably stick with it, but I can wait a few hours to let it soak in rather than making a $179 mistake! :)

I haven't posted much on MacRumors, but thanks to all of you who chatted about this so much over the last few months!

Mike

Will you be installing BootCamp on it? If so, can you run ATiTool to see what the clockspeeds are, and also try and run 3DMark05 and 06? I've been trying to find a 2.16/128MB X1600 C2D MBP owner for a while who could actually runt his so we could see how it compares to the 2.33 GHz/256MB X1600 C2D MBP.

Also, anyone who has their 15, what does your manual say? Is it the same as the online pdf?

Exact Same Tilt and XP Wifi

Have a new C2D to replace my CD. Placed side by side, the tilt on the displays is identical. No question, no possible mistake, identical. The physical dimension and deign of the computers is identical save the absence of the pinhole next to the iSight and the shift of the security slot, USB and Firewire slots to make room for the Firewire 800. Otherwise the cases are identical in build and in display angle. Sorry to report this since I know those that are concerned are looking for Powerbook angles, but this is the case.

Now a question, I cannot get the wifi running in XP, in spite installing the afore-mentioned D-Link drivers. The last time I was fluent in Windows was for 2000, so I am probably not doing something I need to be doing. I ran the setup file in the Version 102 driver download from D-Link and the card was not recognized. What else can I do, what else should I do? Your help is much appreciated. If this is a simple matter, I apologize for my ignorance, but appreciate your help.

Any other questions regarding new books, feel free to ask.

Thanks.
Grant.

(New is 15" 2.33/120. Old is 15" 2.16/100.)

Why Can't Someone With A 15" C2D MacBook Pro Tell Us What The Angle Degree Is?

But you fail to tell us what that angle is. Is it 120º or is it 135º ?!?!?

Can't Anyone Give Us A Frickin' Number?

Is it One Third past vertical or One Half past vertical?

Identical? What about the rear ventilation holes? You didn't mention them, but everyone else has noted that the new C2D MBP has much wider ventilation holes in the back.

129!

The manual says it is not ment to go past 130, and it is at 128-129 according to my plastic compass.

Sorry, missed those. There are two rows of six 4cm vents in the new machine as opposed to the old machine that has one row of small vents, 3 per cm.

Finally got my base glossy MBP and all I can say is...WOW!!! This is my first Mac laptop and I am very, very happy right now. Even saved $200 with the student discount.

For you guys in the Toronto area, I got mine from the Yorkdale Apple Store and I believe they still have the glossy ones which were not readily available. The guys at this store were very helpful. They even let me open it before taking it home to check for any defects and dead pixels. They offered to exchange it right off the bat if I wasn't satisfied without slapping the re-stock fee. They said they'd do this because of my experiences before. I told 'em I was unlucky with LCD screens and always had dead pixels the first time I turn them on. Needless to say, the MBP I got is perfect, no dead pixies whatsoever (tested it again at home by wathcing a DVD and examining the screen with purely a black background)...oh man...I'll stop now and enjoy my Core 2 Duo MBP!

Thanks again guys for your help.

So We Have User Guide Documentation Saying 15" 130º 17" 135º. Thank you.

Thank you. This means the 15" does not extend back as far as the 17" does. Another reason to love the 17" model.

But we also have a descrepancy between the report that it is only 120º vs. 130º. Did you mean 30º past vertical 90 - total 120º? or 40º past vertical 90º - almost half way to flat - total 130º?

135º is pretty obvious. It almost lookis flat even though there's still another 45º beyond to get to flat.

i'm rockin' out on my new 2.33 120gb 2gig ram MBP, if you all have any questions i'd be happy to help out.

cheers,
mike

OK, how doed in feel on your lap after some normal usage?

Is the keyboard hot when you max out your CPU?

Oh, and what's the lid like when closing? does it fit better or is it too loose? any warping?

What are the scenarios exactly where someone needs their laptop to extend that far back? Like if you have a large group of people around a table or something and they are all standing over it to look at the screen?
