I ordered two of this config, also on the morning of the 25th w/overnight shipping. I have the same ship date, no updates yet.
Mine is stuck in customs tooLeft Shangai Sunday lunchtime and it's now Wednesday morning (Australian time) with no signs of it budging...
Perhaps mine will get personally delivered courtesy of the Federal Police
The thing is...
My MBP isn't coming from China (like I've said)...
It's being assembled in California, and shipped from there...
I would have hoped it would have been able to be shipped a bit sooner
But them's the brakes...

Defect - take it to an Apple Store and make them replace it.

This thursday is the 7th business day after ordering, hopefully it'll ship this week. Has anyone else who ordered on the first day of availability seen their macbook's ship yet?
Mine was ordered on Tues and scheduled for Nov 9 Delivery. I think that is the earliest available for 17". I ordered mine with 3GB, and matte, was yours the same?

Yes, I found that - I just wondered if Apple were using the same make/model of 160GB drive in all the new MBPs. Seagate and Fujitsu offer similar ones as mentioned earlier in this thread and I wondered if Apple might be using them as well.
I ordered mine on the 30/10 from UK HE store and the estimated delivery is not untill the 16/11

I ordered mine the first day at 6:00 AM Pacific Time. I have a ship date of Nov. 7 with a delivery of Nov. 13.
I added the two-day shipping when I placed the order without knowing any better at the time. There has been no update to the status. Just waiting, not patiently, but waiting.

All My Many 3.5" HDs Have 16MB Buffers In Them - I'm Spoiled
Probably is no such thing as a 16MB buffer in 2.5" drives yet. Next year they are going to start putting in 256MB buffers - NK.
Nothing that a 16MB buffer wouldn't fix.

I just ordered a 15" 2.33 with matte display yesterday. After seeing them at the Apple store, I have decided to go with the glossy display instead. Unfortunately my order now shows as "shipped" so I can't change it! Since I ordered this on the phone, when I recieve the unit, can I simply take it down to my local Apple store and get it exchanged? (providing they have it in stock) Or do I have to send the thing back to Apple and wait again?

Ordered my 17" Glossy Oct 24, 2006 at 06:20 AM PST. No shipping info as of 5 minutes ago. Est. shipping 11/8 - Est. delivered by 11/14.
17" Appears To Not Be In Production Yet
So it looks like the assembly line is doing all 15" right now and will switch to 17" at end of this week so they can ship some 17" mid next week. Does that make sense?

Newbies, when you mess up quotes please go back and edit the fix as soon as you see it. NOTE the end syntax must be CAPITAL "/QUOTE" inside these "[]" lower case brackets right next to the letter "p". Thanks in advance for your help.

MichaelLatta screwed up the quotes. This is the fixed version.

youll have to call apple up and get an RMA#. I initially ordered a stock 2.33, but later decided to upgrade to the 160gb hard drive. they told me that because i was ordering a more expensive product, theyd cover my shipping charges back to apple, as well as waive the restocking fee (assuming the box hadnt been opened). i happily sent it back and am now waiting for the new one (order #2) to arrive. its been hanging out in shanghai for the last day or so
If I had an extra $600 lying around, I'd be right there with ya. For now, I'll have to make do with the 2GB RAM that my (inferior) MBP is shipping with. But, hell, it's twice the RAM I've got in my TiBook, so you'll hear no complaints from me.
...plus, by the time I've saved up some money to buy a 2GB stick, the price for them will hopefully have fallen (again).
160GB drive benchmarks
Just been looking at the benchmarks for the Hitachi 5K160 on Tom's Hardware:

It's pants compared to the Seagate 7200.1 UltraATA drive in my year-old PBG4 1.67GHz - the slower spin speed definitely hurts the performance. Wonder why Apple aren't offering the 100GB 7200rpm drive as an option on the 15"?
Then there's the poor Photoshop performance under Rosetta:

So I've decided to wait for the next MBP revision which should hopefully coincide with Adobe releasing their Universal apps.

My HD is a 120gb HTS541612J9SA00, a Perpendicular Hitachi Drive (same model as those 160gb ones).
Did I just luck out? I saw a few were getting LMR Drives.

It is such a shame they got it wrong. It is an improvement on XP headed in the general direction of Tiger. But, soon we will have Leopard. I was more open to Vista before the ELUA terms came out. Now I expect to be using XP for a good long time (for those unavoidable things like Oracle and Visio to OmniGraffle conversions).
