Defect - take it to an Apple Store and make them replace it.

If mine has any when it comes in you'd better believe I'm making the trek to Nashville, and getting it fixed.

I don't see how this would work though, Apple considers a certain number of dead or stuck pixels to be acceptable - someone else can point out the exact number, but I'm positive they wouldn't consider 1 or 2 dead pixels total to be a defect (very few people have a no dead pixel policy; I think Asus or Acer lets you pay $200 extra for dead pixel insurance or something like that, but that's it).

Seagate 400 @ Fry's is $169

Fry's Has 400GB Seagate ATA/100 16MB Cache HDs On Sale Through Tomorrow For $100 Each - limit 4 per checkout. They have 5 year warranty and are perfect fot FW/USB2 external boxes. 400GB is still the sweet spot @ 25¢/GB. 500GB drives are still a lot more money @ 35-40¢/GB.

$169... I just bought one for my new MBP C2D 160, 1GB, glossy.

If I had an extra $600 lying around, I'd be right there with ya. For now, I'll have to make do with the 2GB RAM that my (inferior) MBP is shipping with. But, hell, it's twice the RAM I've got in my TiBook, so you'll hear no complaints from me.

...plus, by the time I've saved up some money to buy a 2GB stick, the price for them will hopefully have fallen (again).

in the same boat here. 2GB is enough for me for the moment, and by the time the next round of apps comes out and i want to update the RAM, the price will be 1/3rd of where it is now, and i will have a 1GB stick to sell for $50 or $75.

I picked mine up today!!!! at the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue! I sold my Powerbook on ebay today and got myself the high end 15" 2.33. Details soon as I have yet to open the box. Backing up my files right now.

Woohoo!:D

I am currently running out of ram on my 2GB laptop. I generally max out at about 3.5GB of address space in use. That is what I get for running Oracle, WebLogic, Eclipse, VisualStudio, our custom app that needs 1GB itself, Mail, a news reader, and a few other supporting java and .Net apps all at once.

Once my MBP arrives I will use MySQL rather than Oracle for most of the development work, with Parallels for final Oracle testing, and for VisualStudio and .Net apps.

Web, You Got A Raw Wrong Deal • Seagate 400 @ Fry's Are Only $100

You got ripped off Web. The 400 ATA/100's are $100 and the external Ethernet/USB2 160GBs are only $90. What Fry's are you shopping at? I'm in N CA.

Do you mean a 400GB External FW Seagate? You really didn't mention exactly what 400 you meant.

Sale Ends Tuesday Night at 9PM

Ya - he meant the External
*reading between the lines*

BTW: I was originally looking for an External... I can't believe I didn't catch the fact that you posted about an internal Seagate earlier

And yes- the External 400GB Seagate is $169 - ending today.

Cheers!

$69 Is Way Too Much For External FW Case • Acomdata $40 After Rebate Way Better Deal

$69 is too much for an external case. The Acomdata fanless externals are only $40 after rebate at Fry's. Not carefully shopping.

Choice between fanless 5.25" or 3.5" Acomdata cases both FW 400/USB2 both only $40 after $10 rebate. Those Acomdata cases are way better than what Seagate sells for $30 less.

Or this 320GB Acomdata External for $100. Seagate externals are notoriously unreliable and overpriced even when on "sale".

My recommendation: Return the Seagate external 400 and wait for Black Friday. 500's will probably be $130 Black Friday. It's really too close to Black Friday to be making that kind of pruchase now. Only three weeks from Friday.

Ok...I am only on about page 45 of the thread (currently at 68 pages) so I haven't read it all however I know there have been several requests for some video benchmarking from the 128mb version of the x1600

I only have 3dmark05 - Just ran a test and got a 'score' of 3684. I only have the trial version of 3dmark05 so its running with the defaults which I can't change.

Specs of my macbook pro (its the base 15" model - 'stock'):

2.16Ghz Core 2 Duo
1Gb RAM PC5300
120gb hdd
X1600 - 128mb

I don't have 3dmark06 so if someone can link to one that has a decent download speed, I can get some scores from it also.

Hope this helps!

WOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTT i got my MBP at the apple store today(shadyside)

I got the 2.33ghz, 2gb, 120gb, etc. haven't turned it on yet, but man am i excited

can you give us any frame rates on any games you have?

I ordered my stock 17" c2d MBP last Tuesday around 10am PDT... Still see an estimated ship date of Nov 7 :(

This thursday is the 7th business day after ordering, hopefully it'll ship this week. Has anyone else who ordered on the first day of availability seen their macbook's ship yet?

I'm eager to ditch this crappy Dell D610 work gave me. I'm sure Apple would appreciate it if I didn't hit the order status page 12 times a day, but, oh well :)

Wow, im in the same boat as you...My 17'' ships the 9th and i can't wait to get rid of my Dell 8600 that they gave me for work...Thanks to intel/apple i can now buy the computer of my dreams for recreational use and still use good old windows for boring work apps. :D

The thing is...
My MBP isn't coming from China (like I've said)...
It's being assembled in California, and shipped from there...

I would have hoped it would have been able to be shipped a bit sooner :(
But them's the brakes...

-TYC-

How do you come to that conclusion? All MBP's are assembled in China.

Approximately how long should it take to recharge an MBP (I have a C2D 2.16GHz)? I wore the battery all the way down and it took 5 hours to recharge. I also just used it off battery for about 20 minutes and I get "55 minutes until full".

Is it normal for an MBP to take longer to charge than it does to drain battery? This doesn't seem the case for any other devices I've owned.

Thanks.

That seems a tad low, some other people got around 3800 (although that might have been with 2GB of RAM instead). Still good though.

I set up a private link of 3DMark06, I will PM it to you.

The apple rep told me on the phone:
"Your MBP will be assembled and coming from California."

that's who I came to that conclusion.

It depends on what you do to drain the battery and how much you use it during charging. Playing a DVD on battery used to be the worst thing you could do as the drive had to keep spinning. These days I am not sure what the worst would be, but probably ripping a DVD to disk which would keep both spinning. It may also take a couple cycles to fully calibrate the battery so it gets the time remaining estimate correct.

How far can you overclock the X1600? The score is definitely lower than the 256mb version but that might also be due to the slower CPU in your system.

Thanks for the link, Zadillo. Downloading it now and its just soaring along. I will install and run the test and also run 05 again to see if I get a different number.

I haven't run any of these tools before - is there anything special I should be doing? Also, my windows partition is FAT if that makes any difference.

I will post back with results as soon as I can - might be a bit since I keep getting interrupted by trick or treater's!

Are you looking for any games in particular? I've been working more on the OS X side but could round up a few games to install if you are looking for anything specific?

I am not sure about overclocking it. I have to find that ATI tool which shows the clockspeed. Will post back asap

I'm almost positive the 3DMark05 score is because he is running with only 1GB of RAM. Others with the base model MBP but 2GB of RAM have gotten around 3800 in 3DMark05 (and with Omega Drivers, 3980 or so).

The clockspeeds are identical, both the 128 and 256MB X1600 show up as 418/445 in ATITool.
