Hey! Mine was in the same spot yesterday - - it was received after the cutoff at 6:37 on the 31st...
My FedEx hasn't updated yet, but iSnoop says it left the FedEx ramp at 2:17 PM on 11/01 (gotta be shanghai time) -
So, my prediction is that you'll see it sitting there all day today - but later tonight (if you are up late) with iSnoop you'll see that it leaves the FedEx ramp at around 2:15 PM on 11/02.
Thats my guess.... hopefully I'll get a FedEx update soon that says it landed in Alaska..... but that may not happen until later tonight...

Intresting, let me know when you get yours, its nearing 2:17pm 11/2 in shanghi: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=237

If you get yours Thursday, theres still a chance i could get mine friday!

Our mbps would have probably been plane buddies if the credit card i used didn't call me and ask for authorization :/ I must have forgotten to authorize my new address though them. As soon as i authorized it, i got shipping information from Apple (Within an hour).

Anyone have any idea how to get the fedex tracking number for something like applecare? Apparently that was shipped out on the 31st via fedex, but i cant seem to find the tracking number for it.

Whoopee!

:)

I have been one of those silent stalkers watching and listening to all those packages shipping out across the globe, enviously reading everyones excited posts as they get their packages!!

So I felt a compulsion to join in!

Ordered a 15" 2.33Ghz MBP with the 160Gig drive on Thursday 27th Oct, only opted for the bog standard delivery. (Live in London UK).

Build by 3rd Nov
Delivery by 10th Nov

Well I was nearly knocked out of my chair a little while ago as a text arrived on my mobile from Mr Jobs saying that my baby was on the way!!!

Whoopee!!!

Logged in to check the tracking status to find that in actual fact what they were shipping to me was my Applecare plan. (not so useful methinks without a MBP to apply it to).

Serious blues:(. Felt like crying!!!

Just checked and it has updated again!!!

:)

My baby is coming!!

Unfortunately the delivery date has now apparently shifted to 13th Nov.

Please tell me how long on average has it taken people to receive their package once it has been confirmed as shipped.

Need to know as I might plan to work from home so that I can be here to meet my lovely precious!!

Cheers for any help!!

Ollie Cromwell.

P.S This is my first post: Couldn't be part of the stalking crowd any longer, havent had a mac for the past couple of years since the tragic death of my Pismo. Work unfortunately supplied Dell machines for me so I could not justify the expense to either myself or my wife.

No longer!!

I fully intend to dance naked on my roof terrace under the stars once I have managed to escape from evil Bills clutches!!

PP SS Sorry for this monologue, I am excited!! and full of caffeine. Feel free to tell me to go back into hiding!!

Mine is exactly the same as yours (mine is shipping to just near St Albans).

I received the SMS at 11:39am this morning. Apple Care has a tracking number, but the actual MBP will be merged in transit, and is currently set to be delivered on the 13th, ho hum.

Hopefully they get their act together though and it arrives a lot sooner than that :D

OMG:There goes the kindred spirit alarm!

I would offer to let you come and celebrate! Bonfire night approaches I am thinking of dancing around a burning Guy Fawkes if it arrives before the w/e.

If you are from outside the UK and have no idea who Guy Fawkes is and why we set fire to him every year then i highly recommend a little Googling before you report me to the authorities.

V for Vendetta, man!

I'm Australian but I know who Guy Fawkes is :D

And I would be tempted to go out and celebrate but I am going to sit by my computer here and refresh refresh refresh until the package arrives, and then probably sit in front of THAT computer for the next year or so :p

In the manual for the MBP i notice that it says that you shoul wait a few seconds after it goes to sleep in order to move it aroudn to prevent hard disk harm. Since I take it to big lecture classes, i'm always constantlly tilting/moving or picking up my mbp when others are seating in the rows. Is this a big problem?

Anyone installed and run aperture yet on their shiny new C2D MBP?

I was just wondering (and getting excited now that I know my new lappie is on the way), has anyone installed and done any work yet with Aperture with their new C2D MBP. I do quite a lot of shooting with my Nikon D200 and part of the reason I bought my shiny new toy was to get away from using Lightroom on my Dell as it runs like a stuck Pig.

If your lucky I might even take some shots of Mr Fawkes going up in flames and post them for our global brothers and sisters.

OMG I am going to be like an ill sitting Hen until this thing gets here!!!!

Got Mine

What better news to share with my first post... ordered it the day they announced, and it arrived yesterday afternoon! Migration from my old PowerBook was totally clean, and Vista RC1 has been installed via Boot Camp... This is one sweet machine!

15", 2.33 GHz, 160GB HD...

You might be disappointed in Aperture then, even version 1.5. It's not, shall we say, snappy™. Even on cutting edge hardware.

200GB Coming From Both Fujitsu Linear And Toshiba Perpendicular?

No, it's not the same speed. 200GB/4200rpm HDD today can transfer data at 150MB/s and it's theoretically 1.5 times faster than the one you had.

My C2D MBP came with Toshiba's 200GB HDD (MK2035GSS; PMR) and
I think it sometimes reads/writes faster than 7200rpm HDD on MBP/1.8GHz
Take a look at this comparison:
http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc1=158432&doc2=199097
OK this looks like news to me. I thought we had established that the 200GB HDs were ONLY Fujitsu. Now we have Toshiba as well? So it's gonna be a crapshoot which one we get?

LINKS People:

Fujitsu MHV220BT Linear THICK
Toshiba MK2035GSS; PMR Perpendicular NOT THICK LINEAR

This changes everything for me. Who got a Fujitsu 200? If I know I will be getting a Toshiba PMR 200, that is the way I would go. Wonder how long before we're allowed to specifiy our custom HD orders down to the manufacturer of the drive?

LOL, I went through the same emotions when I got an email from Apple saying "Apple Store Shipment Notification" the day after I ordered. It turns out it was the iWork I ordered together with my MBP. I got the iWork package, now I need an MBP to install it on. I am still waiting for the 'real' shippment notification. Supposed to be by tomorrow.

Stores Should Have Stock 17" Faster Than Online Orders Deliver

I placed my order for the stock 17" machine on the 24th; order status shows Nov 7th ship date/Nov 13th delivery (though I upgraded to overnight delivery).

Do you think I'll get a machine faster from one of the three local Apple stores (we twin citians are lucky!), or should I just wait for the delivery direct from Apple?
Faster from the store if you can get at the top of the queue. Have you called to get in the queue yet? Won't cost you anything to get in the queue today.

I'm leaning toward 3GB RAM 200GB Toshiba Perpendicular 17" now.

well i got my new laptop now.

Both it and an spare battery arrived.
MBP 2.33, 2gb ram, 160gb hd, 256vram.

im very happy and am charging it up right now.

Personally although I am a science graduate I felt a need to find out more about what a PMR drive actually is; All this excitement is getting to me and I am struggling to find things to take my mind off checking my order shipping progress..

So I found this:

Dont know if anyone has already seen this but the cheesy flash animation makes it worth a watch once.

Be warned you may be humming the catchy tune for days!!

I pulled the trigger

Hello there.

Finally I decided to go for it rather than waiting for the MB to be updated. At the end, even if the MB gets updated, I like the MBP better and I feel it is worth the extra money.

One question I have is about the HD. I got the mid model, which comes with the 120 GB HD. Is there a difference between the stock model and the 160 GB HD, other than the space? THe reason I ask is because I just placed the order, so I still could change it to have the bigger HD. But at this point I don't anticipate needing the extra space, is more a matter of having a quieter, more efficient and less power hungry machine, assuming there were differences.

Thanks

Did you install the x64 Version of Vista RC1?

How does it run?
Do the drivers work?
Any other information would be appreciated! :)

Cheers!

I'm minutes away from pulling the trigger on this. However a recent MacFixit article has given me pause. I waited for the Merom MBPs for some time because of the supposed 64 bit computing. But according to the article, even though my processor is now capable of 64 bit computing, the Intel 945 chipset is still 32 bit! Is this right? So that means that even with Jaguar's 64 bit goodness throughout, I'll still be able to only do 32 bit computing? Say it aint so. Say it aint so. :(

I imagine that the warning is because as it goes to sleep it writes to the disk to save ram in case you let it sleep until the battery runs out. I have one of the 160GB PMR drives in a case and it was speced at something like 10G or more operating shock resistance. As long as you do not jar it suddenly it should be fine. As it goes to sleep they just do not want the motion sensor to kick in and slow down the transition to sleep would be my guess. It may also only refer to the transition to sleep on low battery when it may not be able to park the heads and still keep things alive.

I'm just running the regular Vista RC1 (non x64), and it seems to perform very well. Drivers are a bit of an issue, as they need to be loaded manually rather than with the Boot Camp program. Most everything was recognized by Vista though, including the graphics driver - Aero was set up to run by default. I had to manually install the wireless NIC driver, iSight, and Mac Keyboard support. Feel free to shoot me any other more specific questions if you have them...

Looks Like 7200 RPM 200 Will Be Shipping With Santa Rosa

For all the people debating the 4200rpm 200GB drive, check out what's coming next year:

electronista - Hitachi promises 250GB laptop drive in 2007

250GB 5400RPM drives from Hitachi....:)

And according to this:

Engadget - Hitachi to offer auto-encrypting hybrid notebook HDDs in 2007

there apparently might even be 7200rpm 200GB drives.
Thanks for that. Looks like another reason to wait for or switch to Santa Rosa when it ships with 7200 RPM 200's.
