Still no 17"'ers sighted...?

Any ideas about why they delay these? We pay the most, we should get first! :p But seriously, any reason besides making sure they are able to produce/deliver enough?

One suggestion that seems the most likely is that the manufacturing line for the 15s was ready to go sooner, or is being produced in higher volume. As a result the entire manufacturing line may be putting out 15s as fast as they can (all teh early deliveries).

It could also be a parts issue, a later design completion, any number of other things that delay the manufacturing.

They do appear to on a schedule so it is most likely a delay in design time, or a scheduled use of manufacturing.

OK this looks like news to me. I thought we had established that the 200GB HDs were ONLY Fujitsu. Now we have Toshiba as well? So it's gonna be a crapshoot which one we get?

This changes everything for me. Who got a Fujitsu 200? If I know I will be getting a Toshiba PMR 200, that is the way I would go. Wonder how long before we're allowed to specifiy our custom HD orders down to the manufacturer of the drive?

There were some rumors that Apple uses those two 200GB HDDs so I didn't get surprised or confused.
maybe I'm lucky to have Toshiba's 200GB HDD without specifying it clearly.

I recommend this disk to those who want both capacity and long battery life. I guess the performance of this disk is OK as I captured and edited DV on my C2D MBP with no dropped frames so far.

my fedex tracking page still shows:

Oct 31, 2006 11:15 AM

Picked up

SHANGHAI CN

Package received after FedEx cutoff

11:15 AM

Left origin

SHANGHAI CN

8:17 AM

Package data transmitted to FedEx

but now on the top of that page, it gives an expected delivery date of November 3rd (this friday!). How can it get to me in Northern California by friday if it hasnt even gotten to alaska yet. expecting it to get to alaska, then indianapolis, then the bay area, and on a truck in two days is asking a bit much, no? i used isnoop and it didnt suggest that the laptop has made it to alaska either. i really really dont want to wait the weekend for this puppy.

so this prompts me to ask, has anyone received their computer despite fedex's lack of updated tracking? meaning, has anyone had their computer delivered to them despite fedex suggesting the computer is still thousands of miles away? as much as i would love to know exactly where the computer is, i think id be alright with it being in my hands ;)

if anyone can provide comments of their own experience, id greatly appreciate that.

160GB Hitachi Super-Perpendicular Is Only Sure PMR HDs Until We Confirm Toshiba 200

Is there a way to tell which 120 GB HD is in a stock 15" MBP before you buy it? If there is PMR 120 GB drive for a 15", I would prefer to get the one with that drive over the old LMR 120 GB HD. Does it show on the box?
Nope. You'll have to order a 160 to be sure you get Super-Perpendicular by Hitachi. Still waiting on 200GB drive make & model numbers.

Tat You Did Not Tell Us You Have A 200GB Toshiba Before This Post - What Model?

Tat you are assuming you told us you have a Toshiba 200 before casually mentioning it in this new obscure non-specific model number post. As far as I know you did not.

What Model Number PLEASE????

120 HDs

Is there any indication about which 120GB you could expect depending on other components of the system?

For example, base models (2.16) get the LMR, but mid models (2.33) get the PMR.

Lack of Cooperation Among 15" C2D MBP Owners To Tell Us Their HD Brand & Model #s

No there is not.

Plus we're not getting reports from everyone what brand model drives they have is the problem. Many refuse to tell us which brand and model HD is in their 15" MBP. I don't know why. They simply refuse to cooperate.

I posted this on another thread...

My Mastercard acc't was affected twice today, 11 am and 1:24 pm. One apparently was an pre-authorization check and the other a charge. Tomorrow is the 7th business day, so I hope it is shipping tonight or tomorrow!!! Does anyone know the delay between charging and shipping?

First Apple Computer, very excited.

Ordered 4 pm on the 24th, est. ship date was always Nov. 7th and it hasn't changed.

LOL, I went through the same emotions when I got an email from Apple saying "Apple Store Shipment Notification" the day after I ordered. It turns out it was the iWork I ordered together with my MBP. I got the iWork package, now I need an MBP to install it on. I am still waiting for the 'real' shippment notification. Supposed to be by tomorrow.

I feel your pain. My laptop for work died, and the replacement they ordered me was backordered. First, I received a kensington lock, then about a week later my docking station. They've finally shipped the laptop, which I'll receive about 3 weeks after I got the kensington lock :)

Man, you guys are insane...
You know what I did? I bought a refurb Macbook, received it damaged and drove to the Apple Store to just buy a new one, walked back into the Apple Store yesterday, returned the Macbook on the 14th day of ownership, did NOT get charged a restocking fee, and walked out with a new MBP (at educational pricing).
VERY nice laptop. Many things are much better about it than the Macbook (besides the aluminum, size, and C2D).
It's cooler, it's quieter, and that's what I was looking for.
Yay!
Too bad one of the screws on my RAM cover stripped when I tried to install a second stick last night. Here's to hoping I can find an implement at work that will get it out without damage...

I got my MacBook Pro on Halloween! Wonderful Treat!!!

Hey everybody, I purchase the last glossy 15-inch, 2.16 GHz Core 2 Duo that the Apple Store had in Tampa last night. It works wonderfully! There is really no glare at all on my screen, I think they have improve the anti-glare on these new glossy screens.

Just to let you guys know, I have a Fujitsu 120 GB hard drive in my MacBook Pro, hope that helps!

My Gamble paid off in Spades this AM!!!!

I placed an order last weekend for a new 15" 2.16 C2D Glossy and was shocked when I got my email saying the estimated delivery date was November 14!! I just couldn't wait that long plus I was headed out of town on travel that week. As luck would have it New Mexico got our very first Apple Store today (ABQ-Uptown) so on Monday I cancelled my order and made plans to head down (200 mile round trip) to the grand opening. This is NM's first "lifesytle" shopping center with all the usual suspect upscale stores. I arrived at 9:15 am for a 10:00am grand opening only to find myself in position number 200. It didn't look good but hey at least I knew I would get a free T-shirt!

The Apple employees came out around 9:45am and were all amazed at the line which had grown to over 500 by now. They were all whooping it up, taking pictures and shaking hands in the crowd. At 10:00 sharp they opened the doors and let the first 75 people (or so) in. The really amazing thing was that no other stores had more than a couple people waiting to get in. Were talking places like Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, White House, etc. but Apple has 500 people waiting in line!

Well it took me around 30 minutes to make my way in all the while watching what was coming out hoping and praying for a new MBP C2D to still be in stock. All the sales clerks had Symbol wireless scanners so all you had to do was walk up and tell them what you wanted.

As luck would have it they did indeed have my beloved 15" 2.16 Glossy Speed Demon in stock!!! And they could give me my Educational discount as well!

Luckily I made them double check and sure enough the first one they pulled was a Matte screen and they took it back to the back and emerged a few minutes later with a Glossy one in tow.

I whipped out my plastic and was on my way a few minutes later (T-shirt in hand as well) and I am now home and transferring all my data from my old trusty 17" 1.67 G4.

Having had a matte screen for years I am loving the Glossy finish. Colors seem so much richer and images seem sharper as well.

I still have one hour left of data transfer but I was too excited to wait.

It was certainly hard to cancel an order from the Apple store but this is one time it really paid off. I saved two weeks and got my discount as well!

Congrats and great story. But all that without telling us what brand model size your Hard Drive is please?
